Amsterdam Downtown Brown

Amsterdam Downtown Brown

Formerly known as Amsterdam Nut Brown. The object of desire, Amsterdam Downtown Brown is crisp yet subtle in character. A classic British-style brown ale brewed with a blend of Canadian and European malts (including chocolate malt from Belgium), this traditional deep chestnut coloured ale exudes a bold and attractive taste. Brewed with English Ale yeast and balanced by four varieties of continental hops, our Downtown Brown delivers an uncommon smoothness and distinct drinkability.

3.1 0.473 can. Clear, brown color and a small, off-white head. Aroma of wood, dark malts, smoke, a touch of nuts, and a bit of milk with tea. Taste is malty - coffee, nuts, and dark chocolate work in good balance. Light body, slick texture, and soft carbonation. Finish tastes of coffee candy, quite simple. Overall not a bad beer but by no standard is it particularly good.
3.3 Sampller after the marathon. Pours dark brown, reddish tint visible in the light. Decent head bubbles away for a while then descends into just a film. Rather dull aroma of caramel malts. Very lively taste though.
3.5 A very dark brown body with a lively tan head. The nose is relatively understated with touches of malt, nuts and a hint of milk chocolate. This is a nice fall beer. The body is a solid medium texture and the taste is subtle and well blended. Malt, slightly roasted nuts and a hint of cream and chocolate work well together. The continental hops are understated and hard to find and there is some spiciness in the finish.
3.1 Can from LCBO. Mahogany brown with a light tan head. Overall a very nutty / slightly caramelly character. Slight herbal bitterness in the finish. Moderate carbonation and body. OK.
3.9 Classic nut brown! Malty, light chocolate, light roast and a lot of nut flavor. Smooth4,complex yet light and easy to drink just like the style should be with a big expression of malt.
3.1 Poured from draft as part of a flight at Amsterdamn brewery. Dark and orange brown with white head.
3.6 473ml can from LCBO. Clear dark cola body, medium beige head with poor retention. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, herbs, roasted nuts and chocolate. Taste of well roasted malt, burned caramel, hazelnuts and a touch of hops. Well done brown ale.
3.2 473ml can pours a dark brown with amber highlights and a finger of light beige head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is chocolate with some light roasted grains. Taste is a roasted grain bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent brew for the style.
3.7 Draught @ the brewpub. Pours hazy dark copper brown with small but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, with hoppy and fruity notes. Bitter, roasty and hoppy flavour with notes of nuts and malt and some estery touches. Nutty and bitter finish. Nice.
3.4 Pours a clear dark brown with a small off-white head. Aromas are nutty, caramel, and sweet. Tastes are nuts, earth, and a bit of sweet. Medium body and carbonation. Medium balanced bitter and sweet finish.
4.4 Pours well, has a nice frothy head with nice, uniform bubbles. Has earthy aroma with a slight taste of caramel and good malt flavours.
3.7 On tap at the brewery. Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma of caramel and toffee and light chocolate from the malts, some toast, and some light floral hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. A solid brown.
3.3 Nuts, toffee, roasted malt, wood, lingering mocha finish. Quite heavy in a British way, ok but not really my thing.
3.3 473 ml can. Pours a clear, dark brown with a small off-white head. Aromas are nuts, caramel, and liquorice. Tastes are bitter nuts, earth, umami, and a touch sweet. Medium body and carbonation. Medium finish balanced between bitter and sweet.
3.3 Can from the LCBO. Deep clear mahogany with a one finger fluffy khaki head that fades slowly and laces well. Nose is light caramel, roasted nuts and chocolate. Light sweet toffee up front with light bitter chocolate, coffee and nut middle and a short finish. Mouth is a bit thin with average carbonation. Decent enough brown ale.
3.2 473ml can. Pours a clear, deep amber/caramel with a one finger, off white head that laces. Aroma has smooth roasted notes with a bit of caramel, dark fruits, and a hint of fruity esters. Taste is balanced. A blend of soft roasted malts, caramel, and a bit of coffee at the end. Low-medium body with a medium carbonation. Clean in the mouth with a bit of a dry finish. Overall an ok brown. A bit light on flavour.
3.0 Can from lcbo. Pours a dark amber with an off white head. Aroma has lemon, toffee, some dark fruit. Light body, medium to full carbonation. Caramel, lemon, wood, apple... Finishes with a metallic bitterness which lingers a bit. Not great.
3.1 0.473 l can, thanks Sampo! Dark reddish brown. Slightly roasty aroma with dark bread crust, toasted nuts, bitter chocolate and coffee. Taste of toasted bread, coffee, bitter chocolate and nuts. Fairly dry with some roasty acidity. Medium body. Tastes a bit lame but still fairly balanced and clean.
2.8 Can bought at the Amsterdam Brewery in Toronto. Overall it tastes like a good dark lager. Refreshing, a bit watery. Medium roasted malt, some dark chocolate. Good but nothing really special.

3.3 473 ml can. Poured a deep ambber with a 1 finger foamy, tan head. Nice caramel and chocolate aroma. Sweet chocolate flavour. Light bitterness, moderate lasting. Overall, very enjoyable.
2.7 Brown with an off white head. Some hints of roasted nuts, malts in the aroma, some bread. Easy on the palate. Not badly made but forgettable.
2.7 Can. Roasty and nutty aroma with faint fruity esters and some sour note. Dark chestnut appearance under a thin, tan sheet. Watery, nutty flavour that is pretty weak and finishes with dry roasted nut finish and no fruit or hops. Medium body, medium carbonation, nutty finish.
3.5 Pours clear deep red with a light tan head. Aroma of caramel malts, English ale yeast, a little bit of nuts. Taste is quite caramel malty up front, medium carbonation and body, light bitterness in the finish.
3.0 473 mL can. Pours dark walnut with a thin white cap. Caramel, coffee, roasted nuts and a hint of butteriness, some woody hop. Dry for the style with a lightly roasty and mildly hopped finish. Above moderate carbonation. A little too clean on the palate. Not bad.
3.0 Can LCBO mix pack: Brown amber with sudsy beige head that dissipates rapidly. Roasty malt aromas with some nutty notes. Caramel malts and earthy flavour. Smooth.
3.2 Brownish fine bubbled head that has good persistence. Clear brown colour. Classic aroma of almond, roast, a hint of choclate. On the palate it has a medium body, has the same caramel and roasty notes but is bitter and almond like. light but classic. I’ve had worst.
3.1 Pretty good ale. Aromas of coffee roasted nuts and chocolate notes. Similar flavours. Nice Roasty and sweet.
