Anchor Argonaut Collection: Flying Cloud San Francisco Stout

Anchor Argonaut Collection: Flying Cloud San Francisco Stout

America’s first craft brewery is proud to introduce a limited edition of uniquely Anchor brews, the Anchor Argonaut Collection. This year, there will be three beers released throughout the year; each in their own individually designed 4-packs, as well as on draught.

The first of the collection is Flying Cloud San Francisco Stout. The stouts savored in Gold Rush San Francisco were no ordinary ales. They were export stouts—dark, intense, high-gravity brews. Ours is a Dublin-style brew made with English Maris Otter pale malt, two black malts, and flaked barley. Nugget and Golding hops provide a spicy, floral complement to the deep, dark-chocolaty maltiness and dry finish.

4.0 Bottle pour..easily the most enjoyable anchor beer I can remember having..full of flavor and depth..good beer..
2.7 Black body with a fine thick and creamy beige head. Nice lacing down the sides of the glass. A bit sweet aroma. Hmm…. Ok intensity. Medium to full body and an average to soft carbonation. A bit sweet and a moderate bitterness. Oily texture. Toffee, cold coffee and a bit to much licorice in the flavor. A bit unbalanced. Not my cup of stout. [Bottle from a trade with gunnar]

3.7 Bottle. Close to black in the glass. topped by a beige head of moderate size. Roasted, almost burnt nose with licorice, caramel, some dried fruits and coffee and some bonfire notes. It’s full-bodied, smooth and faintly warming on the palate, with some sweetness and an appropriate bitterness. Roasted malts, some bonfire hints, prunes and caramel. Licorice too. Lasting finish where the licorice have more room to play. A really fine one. 160504

3.9 Helt svart med brunt skum. Lukter kaffe, nøtter, svakt fruktig og et snev av tang. Bitter kaffe i smaken sammen med mørke bær. Alkoholen merkes godt i avslutninga.
3.7 Dark brown body, nearly opaque. Taller tan head that settles leaving decent lace. Scents of roasted malts, some dark fruit and light ash. Sweet start, with roasted malt, dark toffee and bit of molasses. A sweet foreign stout. Fairly bitter and some black malt in the finish and linger. A strong Mackeson XXXX.
3.3 Bottle 33cl. Black with a minimal light brown head. Aroma of malt, licorice and chocolate. Medium sweet, light bitter, chocolate end. A bit too cold.
3.6 0.355l bottle. This one pours a deep and dark brown colored body. On top, a really dark creamy, big and good looking chocolate colored head that sticks around and is leaving some hefty curtains down the sides of the glass. It has a sweet and dark nose this. Lots of sweet licorice and sweet leather. Well, it’s not sweet sweet, but still. Roasted also with some milk chocolate, hazel nuts and a little bit of pastilles. Nice stuff, not too hefty or extreme, but nice and balanced. It has a nice mild oily texture in the mouth and it’s soft and only prickling on the carbonation. Sweet chocolate in the taste also. It’s nicely roasted, but the heftiest roastiness doesn’t come until the aftertaste. Almost like coffee with roasted whipped cream in a strange but nice way. Not the most memorable one, but a nice, well balanced mild stout from the solid and steady Anchor. 11.03.2016
