Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future.
Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness.
For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.

Piwo metne w kolorze brazowym nalewa sie z dosc obfita sredniopecherzykowa piana. W aromacie karmel i orzechy z domieszka chleba. W smaku mamy praktycznie to samo. Piwo jest dosc slodkie z niska goryczka i wysyceniem na srednim poziomie.

Bottle at home random super market grab. Fine clearish brown pour smaller head. Nose is light caramel, malt and brown sugar. Tastes of those things but with some red fruit thrown in. Medium carbonation and bodied. Sweet finish.
Dark copper colour with an off-white head. Malty, slightly sweet, dark fruits, hint of brown sugar.

Very malty & not too sweet, which is different to many UK Brown Ale’s, with stewed dark fruits, plum & faint hints of sugar.
Bottle from Biernavigatie, BB 12-2017, large sample. Clear brown color, big rocky head. Aroma of biscuit, chocolate, dark fruit. Soft fruity bitterness, caramelly sweetness. Easy drinkable, like an american bock. Lots of flavor. Very good sessionable stuff.

Bottle. Pours clear brown with beige head. Aroma has dark malts, some roasted notes, deep caramel with walnut notes and a grassy hoppiness. Taste is malty with dark malts, caramel and hints of roasted malt and some walnut flavors. Also hops with grass and straw. Finish is balanced malty and dry.

Dark mahogany. Hoppy aroma with dried fruit. Malty, spicy and fruity, with a rather dry taste and a finish with a rounded bitterness. Sour notes. Medium body. Overall, just above average brown ale. Good aroma, but the taste is far too dry for me.
Aroma and flavor are very very good.In general, It is a good beer. I like it a lot.

Myös maku varsin monivivahteinen sisältäen paahteista maltaisuutta ja ruisleipää, aavistus kahvia sekä suklaata. Toisaalta myös eksottinen hedelmäisyys nostaa päätään ja jälkimaussa on myös sitruksista happamuutta, joka lienee Citra-humaloinnin ansiota. Keskitäyteläisen ja kevyen välimaastossa oleva suutuntuma. Ihan alun pettymyksen jälkeen tämä yllättäen toimiikin ihan kohtalaisesti. Jännä yhdistelmä.
Pours brown with a nice light brown head. Lovely nose of toast, baguette crust, dried fruit, resin. Taste is well balanced between medium sweetness and bitterness. Very smooth palate, medium carbonation. One of my favourite brown ales.
I love the citra hops, so I had som high expectations on this one. Unfortunately the malty body is way too dominant and the citra hops are struggling to get that space of attention in an overall sweet and creamy brownie.
Bottle from the real ale store Newark. Hazy brown to chestnut colour with an off white head. Fruitcake aroma taste fruity sweet, and light roasted malt.
12oz Flasche. Tolle rot-braune Farbe. Cremiger hellbrauner Schaum. Nussiges Malzaroma. Ich rieche auch den Hopfen und verbrannter Zucker. Der Geschmack ist kanntig. Malzige Süsse, dann Hopfen und Hopfenbittere. Dann Lakritz und verbranntes Karamell. Kräuterbitter fast etwas beißend im Finnish. Ist ein gutes Bier, aber mir persönlich zu unrund.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, nuts and dried fruit; ends slightly dry with bread and hops.
Overall:
This beer is rather complex and balanced, but could have been more intense. The brown malts, dash of roasted malts and the citra hops make this beer rather unique.
Aroma: Chocolate and caramel, fruit, cookies, spice. Appearance: Dark brown to ruby body color, medium-high head, dense, quite durable. Taste: Cookie malt base, fruit, spice, caramel, quite acidy, minimal dark chocolate, biterness too low. Palate: Carbonation low, body medium, finish sweet.
355 ml bottle. Pours chestnut brown with a orange-beige head. The aroma is moderatly hoppy with flowers and citric fruits. Medium body with soft carbonation. Matly taste with moederate sweetness and some bitterness in the finish. Complex aromaticity: some roasted malt, some smoke, licorice and honey.
Clear red-brown with a large frothy good lacy head. Smells of malt, caramel and soft fruity hops. Tastes of berries, bread, caramel and a sweet lasting nutty flavour. Lingering bitterness with a pleasant maltiness. Very nice
