To commemorate an important milestone in Anchor Brewing’s long history, a special ale seemed appropriate. Having found and experimented with a very rare and unusual hop variety called Nelson Sauvin, we knew that its unique character would impart a wonderful flavor and aroma to a pale ale brewed especially for the occasion: Humming Ale.

4.6Bottle 0,355L. Courtesy of Kita. Cloudy, light orange colour with large, frothy, off-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma of orange, meadow flowers, light pine, white wine, some species. Taste starts light bitter and fruity, than turns into moderate bitter, long lasting aftertaste. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Excellent beer!
4.0355ml bottle at home. Hazy golden with a medium off-white head. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Nice bitterness with some sweet tones. Hay, malts, some biscuit, caramel and citrus. A nice tasty full flavoured brew.
3.4Bottle@Tryk bar, Copenhagen - medium hazy golden coloured pour with medium white head. Citrus fruity hoppy and malty aroma and taste, some light caramel, orange and lemon citrus, straw, refreshing brew. Nice
3.3355ml bottle. Citrus nad lemongrass in this one, some peach notes, dry and effervescent.
3.7Bottle. Amber with a good sized head. Apple juice with ginger and bitter citrus - very refreshing, crisp and clean. Good balance.
3.5"a lighter apa that is distinctly anchor. good balance and bittering, not a lot of citrus and a common anchor flavor and aroma that was familiar yet unique for the style. nice brew."
3.5January 10th, 2013 - Anchor Brewing’s Steam Lager is a keystone in brewing history and culture, but what of their other brew lines? Are they like Bluemoon’s offshoots, disgracing an otherwise good beer with clumsily painted on flavors? Not so. The other Anchors aren’t spin-offs so much as they are new styles, though predictably light and airy, like the patriarch. The Humming Ale is a foamy beard, growing a great white head of thick foam over a semi-cloudy, copper liquid. The smell brings light straw, a nice sourdough tang and yeastiness, and a touch of that sweetness found in old-fashioned rolls. The palate is light and spritzy, masking the flavors until the bubbles pop and clear away. This reveals a slow ramping up of flavor to a funky and fresh biscuit flavor, which rolls and rides well into the aftertaste, complemented by some generic graininess, and a light but curious hop flavor. This is definitely light drinking, but more engaging than most sessionable beers thanks to that sour peal found in the funkier of the flavors.
3.4Clear golden. Frothy, offwhite head. Aroma has malt, caramel and hoppy notes. Flavour citrus on a malty background.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The brew is served a deep golden color with a one finger white head. The head fades relatively quickly to leave only a very light level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is very light. There is a light bready aroma mixed with faint notes of a lemon, herbal and grassy smells.
Taste – It starts out with a biscuit taste mixed with a light lemon flavor. As the taste advances, some floral tastes and a light pine flavor come to the tongue. These flavors seem to be lost relatively fast however due to flavors of an earthy and grapefruit nature coming in. These flavors take the taste to the end and leave bitter-biscuity flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather average in terms of creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is rather average as well. A decent feel for the moderate hop and bready flavors of the brew.
Overall – It was a decent brew, although with the more bitter hop finish, the taste was slightly off at the end. Alright, but nothing I would really go for on any real occasion.
4.6I really like this beer! With its deep yellow color, aroma of elderflower and honey and the great taste with notes of honey as well and a great maltiness amd bitternness. Yummie.
3.4Pilsnerfärgad genomskinlig med stort skum. Doftar och smakar humligt men vilken sort? Ganska söt och fyllig.
3.4(bottle - 12 oz) Hazy gold pour with a puffy white head. Hoppy but malty balanced aroma. Some light floral notes. Bready malts at the start of the flavor with a bitter and dry spicy hop finish.
3.2Bottle at Frederiksberg Ølbar. Higth fluffy white lasting head. Clear amber body. Mild malty fruity honey aroma. Fruity flavor with pepper notes. Low carbonation. Long finish.
3.4Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance has a fairly clear burnt golden orange color body with a white one finger head. There was some light lacing that slid right on into the body.
The smell had some light floral with just a touch spicy with underlying tropical notes.
The taste was mild with a light bittersweet floral to spicy to grasp a light pine hovering over a some light toasty biscuit. There was a fairly decent lingering biscuit aftertaste that lead into a dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat fairly light but also showed a decent aspect to make me think it could have sat at medium on the body. I’d say this was fairly sessionable and did have a decent carbonation to it.
Overall, in my opinion, this is a good APA worthy of having again.
3.5Bottle: Nearly clear, burnt golden body with a stark-white head; super chunky & nearly still sitting on top, lasting forever with lots of chunky lacing left behind. Aroma is a little floral, just a touch spicy with underlying tropical notes. mild tangerine, maybe a bit of white grape, & a notable dankness throughout. Taste is mild, but follows the aroma closely. A touch of pine, a bigger white grape taste that almost grows towards tart/vinous at times, but is held in check with herbal & mildly earthy undertones. Lingering white grape in the finish with a touch of white pepper spice. Mild malt foundation all around, a hint of toasty biscuit. I love this hop; it seems more tame in this beer than most, but this is a pretty tasty & super easy-drinker as a result.
3.7Bottle 33cl. Klub malých pivovarů. Slightly hazy orange body with a thick off-white head. Clear aroma of hops, citrus and flowers.
3.5Bottle 355 ml poured into a tulip. Thanks to Countbeer. ABV 5.9%
Clear orange colour on the body, big and thick off-white head on top, with good retention, leaving light lacing on the glass.
Aroma of caramel, light malts, light citrus and hops, tropical fruits/
Nice taste, moderate hoppy, light malts, caramel, fruity. Light bitterness on the aftertaste.
Medium thin body, good carbonation.
Overall a good beer, honest american pale ale.
3.8Bottle. Small/no head. Golden brown, thin aroma, highly hopped, bit hollow character though.

3.8Bottle 355 ml from Csak a jo sör, Budapest. Pours hazy orange with medium white head. Malty and fruity hoppy flavor with medium bitterness. Nice.
3.4Dunkelgoldenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig fruchtig, hopfig, blumig. Geschmack leicht nach tropischen Früchten, malzig, leicht bitterer Abgang.
3.1Aroma of light malts, tropical fruits, citrus, honey, a little caramel, light aromatic hops. Flavour is light malty sweetness with a medium bitter finish. Everything about this beer is rather ’light’. It’s an easy-going refreshing APA.
3.7355 ml bottle from The Garden Jiyugaoka. Pours nice golden, slightly hazy with a staying white head - that leaves also a nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is the best part of this beer - it has fresh tropical fruits, some morning forest freshness above melon aromas. Taste is fruity at first but then bitter - and maybe even too bitter - hops hit the tongue and the longer and bitter aftertaste ensues. I would like this beer even better if I had a few more seconds to enjoy the first sip before the bitterness covers everything. Overall, for this price - 178 yen - incredible bargain for a very nice beer.
3.5Pours a dark golden, slightly orangey color, and a small white head which quickly disappears.
The aroma is my favourite, although slightly weaker than I’m used to - citrusy hops dominate the smell.
The taste starts neutral with a slight bitterness, slightly fruity, and finishes with a strong spicy taste, which also stays in the aftertaste.
Very nice ale, although I have a feeling, nothing really extra rememberful.
4.5Bottle, 0.355l. Clear deep golden color with small frothy off-white head, fair lacing and sparkling appearance. Excellent aroma of citrus, pine and tropical fruits. Taste starts moderate sweet toasted malty, follows by refreshing grainy and citric acidity, crispy mouthfeel with heavy bitter finish and long aftertaste. Full body, slick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Rich, smooth and refreshing brew...
2.7Bottle. First time it was very good. Today it’s very poor. It seems to be an old one. Beer’s expiration date: 5/2015. The rate is the average.
3.9Bottle from saveur-biere.com. Golden, slightly amber, clear body, with a creamy, frothy, white head, that leaves a lot of lacing. Interesting, fresh aroma of lemongrass, white wine, honey, hay, candy. Taste of grass, honey, citrus, candy, white wine. Mouthfeel is medium, oily to creamy, with a lively carbonation and finishes with grass, citrus and some candy and a pretty long bitterness and dryness. Very interesting, unique and greatly balanced Pale Ale, that samples the Nelson Sauvin hop variety very well! Pretty underrated in my opinion, propably because it is quite different to other Pale Ales and hence not for everyone’s taste.
3.2rocky creamy frothy huge offwhite head. excellent lacing. mostly lasting. clear average yellow body. aroma: caramel, moderate hoppy, black tea and skunk. if: moderate sweet light bitter. ff: light sweet heavy bitter and salty; long duration. palate: medium body, watery/oily texture, lively carbonation, metallic finish.
3.3Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured a clear golden colour with a thin white head. Malty aroma with notes of honey and straw. Initial flavours were somewhat waxy with dried fruit and grass. Finish was very dry, but somewhat light with some corn and apricots.
3.8From bottle. Pours nice clear copper gold liquid. White head out of small bubbles faded quickly. Beautiful, uniquely deep, honey and malt, spices or herb hops aroma. Full body, soft carbonation, dry end. Taste is full malty, at the beginning honey, than herbs, finishes with strong bitterness with character. The aftertaste is in comparison with the beginning rather dry. Relatively good drinkability despite full body.
