Anchor Porter

Anchor Porter

San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

3.7 355ml bottle, forgotten where I purchased this. Was in the fridge but had left it out for an hour. Black pour, with small beige head. Aroma of liquorice, coffee, treacle, chocolate, figs. Very inviting. Taste is quite dry and liquorice noted, before other elements come in, quite rich, tangy and bitter. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. I would have liked a bit more fruitiness to offset the rich notes more but for me that that's the only difference between a very good beer and a great beer.
4.8 Looks: black, with high, creamy, tan head. Aroma: coffee, chocolate, prune, tar, smoke. Taste: bitter and light sweet. Dry finish.
1.6 Astringent
4.1 Świetny klasyk. W aromacie sporo gorzkiej czekolady, kawy i duzo paloności.
4.3 Smooth and a hint of caramel
3.6 Bottle from a London off licence. Very dark brown + tan head. Big dark malty, big liquorice, umami, black coffee, caramel, dark chocolate, dark fruit, light brown bready, light hoppy. Good to finally try this, one of those classic beers I never got around to trying for whatever reason. Interesting how this has a much higher rating here than on Untappd
4.0 W zapachu sporo aromatów ciemnych, suszonych owoców, wiśni śliwek, wyraźne aromaty czekolady, kakao, trochę kawy. W smaku średnia pełnia, trochę słodyczy, wyraźne nuty ciemnych suszonych owoców, fig, daktyli, trochę czekolady, kakao, kawy, średnia goryczka, lekko palona.
3.6 Dark brown beer. The foam is beige, fine bubble, and durable. Coffee, malty aroma. The taste is mainly a hint of coffee. Low bitterness, medium saturation.
3.6 Old rating from 22-04-15 - 355ml bottle, pours dark brown with a foamy beige head. Aromas & tastes of caramel, coffee, chocolate & roasted malt. Moderate body. Medium bitter finish. Highly enjoyable
3.6 355ml bottle from Hopt, France. Pours dark brown, with fine beige foam. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, molasses. Body is fairly light, with almost no carbonation. Taste is medium bitter, pretty roasty, with a little vanilla behind. Final is thin like before, roasty.
2.0 Bottle at The Lobstar, Madrid. A dark brown pour with a tan-to-beige head. Aroma is blackberry, blackcurrant, cola gummy. Drier than the nose forecasted. Medium to low-bodied. Fizzy, crisp, easy-going. Not all that jazz, to be honest.
4.5 やまや ¥333-
3.8 Pours near black with a light beige head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate, hint of caramel. Taste has some bitter chocolate and coffee and some dark fruit, quite smooth.
4.5 0,355l bottle. Thick dark colour with very long lasting stiff, foamy beige head. Aroma: Caramel, matured chedar and flour but in a very elegant way. Taste: Rich full sweet malty start with a very gently, slightly noticeable tarty balsamic vinegar tone that turns into medium bitter/hoppy mouthfeel. This is a very well balanced beer. Medium body with medium carbonation. Long lasting bitter/dry and earthy finish.
3.9 12 oz bottle, poured opaque dark brown with mocha tan head. Medium bodied. Dark fruits and malt aroma. Bitter chocolate taste upfront, then roasted malt. Strongly bitter finish.
3.2 Early rating from Beer Buddy app
3.8 Black with mid creamy foam Sweet caramel, toffee, coffee note, mint dark chocolate, sweet malt. Creamy, coffee, dark chocolate after taste, light on the mid palate, and good coco bitterness length. Heavy nose but quite refreshing.
5.0 The epitome of an American Porter from the very dark coffee color pour/appearance to the healthy, light chocolate color head, a classic porter aroma, a world class Porter taste (coffee, chocolate bitter with a very subtle fruit note-cherry) and full bodied mouthfeel, this is what a cold Porter is all about! Keep up the outstanding work Anchor Brewers! I now have a go to Porter.
4.4 No sé si estoy comiendo un pastel o bebiendo una cerveza. Impresionante.
3.5 Deep mahogany brown with a thin beige head. Aroma, cocoa, coffee, malt. Quite fruity in taste - dried winter berries, prunes, raisins, roasted malt, Demerara, chocolate, liquorice, with a lasting bitter note and some sourness. Lacks the smoothness of my favourite porters. Great looking bottle, stubby with Anchor's appealing design.
1.7 Plumb porter that is too sour to enjoy. A bottle bought in a pack online. Ive had one anchor prev but dont like. This also has a malty aftertaste
2.4 355 ML, Nice "retro" bottle. Quite bitter taste - I think this is the main difference between american porters and english ones. No sweet or coffee hints.
4.0 330 ml bottle. Nice creamy smell, dark color big tick looks. Nice creamy taste! I could drinks liters of this. Güt
3.7 355 ml bottle. Black colour, thick head mostly lasting, fair lacing, soft carbonation. Nose is roasted malt and - quite untypical - some banana and bubblegum. Flavour is medium sweet, moderate bitter, caramel, red berries, some coffee. Increasing bitterness, coffee and smoke in the finish. Pretty good!
4.2 Prażone smaki, kwaskowate chlebem.
3.8 Cerveza muy rica sabores quemados, torrefactos. Se notan un poco los lúpulos americanos. Gran opción cuando no apetece una RIS
4.1 Lekker volle smaak. Chocolade en caramel en koffie tonen
