Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel

Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel

This is it! The powerful, full-bodied, strong beer which is Andechs’s trademark. Brewed in the traditional Triple Mash procedure and available throughout the year, not just during the "Starkbierzeit"!

When the evening passes into dusk and the day draws to a close, time goes a little slower. Just the right time for a glass of Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel.

Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel – mouthcoating, velvety, strong

This world famous bock from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain is not meant to be rushed, but savoured slowly. As solid as a rock, Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel presides over the evening meal with a colour reminiscent of dark copper with nuances of fiery red. Its clear gleaming look harmonises with its firm, fine pored head.

Also the aroma delights the connoisseur: soft roasted accents and a nuance of dried fruit carrying a vein of caramel. This Doppelbock Dunkel from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain presents a pleasant effervescence. And then there’s the unmistakable flavour: mouthcoating and velvety, strong and yet pleasantly malty – a powerful, robust body. At the same time, it develops an easily recognisable sweetness, embraced in roasted cocoa and a light, bitter hoppiness.

Concluding with a powerful punch, this Doppelbock departs with a lingering aftertaste of quality plain chocolate. A strong Doppelbock that embodies the centuries old Benedictine brewing tradition, sip by delicious sip (original extract: 18.5%, abv: over 7.1%).

4.0 Bottle. Mahogany beer with a tan head. Rich malt aroma with dried fruit and toffee. Plum and dried fruit flavor with rich malt. Medium bodied. Plum and dried fruit linger with rich malt.
3.8 Aan de zoete kant voor bockbier.
4.0 Clear dark red beer, initially with a thick off white collar on it. Smell is all caramel and malt. Flavour has caramel, dried fruit, a good malty base. Simple flavours balanced beautifully with a good body to it and a nice finish which is sweet without being sickly. Can't say fairer than that.
3.5 Very good although a little sour and thin after a while. Not very thick and not very malty but still fine.
4.4 Strong bready, raisin, chocolate, caramel, mouth watering aroma. Pours a clear dark amber color with small disappearing light tan head. Rich malty raisin bread with light chocolate and caramel in flavor. Light earthy hop bitterness. Medium full bodied with medium co2, lingering sweet maltiness in finish. Very enjoyable malty beer. Hits all the right spots.
3.7 500ml bottle from Arrow - Mason, marked L0971. Great big dark fruit, caramel, some chocolate, nuts, little hint of earth. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, light to moderate bitter. Little bit of an edge to the finish. Medium to bigger body, crisp crisp lighter carbonation, light slick. Nice, flavorful doppelbock
3.9 Bottle 50cl. @home poured into a stemmed pilsner glass. Clear deep copper colour, small frothy beige head, slowly dissipating, light lacing. Aroma roasted malts, candy sugar (kandij), caramel, raisins, treacle. Rich taste, light light heavy sweet and light malt bitter, malty, mildly burnt caramel, raisins, candy sugar, treacle, very light retronasal smoke. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, sweetbitter aftertaste, roasty notes, very tasty, very enjoyable, very good.
4.4 Incredibly rich malty smooth creamy drink. Caramel, roasted nuts, mild chocolate. Delectable.
5.0 Muy rica
4.0 Dark mahogany with a tan head. Aroma of dark bread, caramel, toast. Medium bodied, caramel toffee flavors dominate with dark bread. Very easy drinking with excellent balance. Yep, this and Celebrator are the best in show.
4.2 Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel pours dark brown with a copper hue and sports a beige head, which dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is brimming with toffeeish caramel maltiness, accompanied by notes of prunes, dark berries, honey, and a hint of savory soy sauce character. The flavor begins with rich malty caramel and muted sweetness, which is then followed by blackcurrant and honey notes while a roasty-toasty dark bread crust note slowly builds up, forming a gently bitter finish. Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel carries its 7.1% ABV with impressive grace - the alcohol feels very gentle throughout. The body is silky and full. While the flavor overall is big, the subtleties are the key to making this beer really shine. Great stuff.
4.1 Bottle from Trembling Madness, 22nd October 2021. Pours a clear chestnut brown, minimal head. Aroma is malty, caramel and molasses. Taste is malt forward, caramel, sweet then a bitter caramel hit, excellent bock
4.0 Nose is raisins and dried figs, taste is caramel and malt, full bodied, toasty finish. An interesting sipper on a dark evening but a little too sweet for me which completely masks the alcohol
3.9 Pours rich mahogany brown, aroma of brown bread, brown sugar and caramel. Great depth of taste, primarily sweet caramel notes but a nice dry almost hoppy finish. Thick mouthfeel. Very good.
3.9 Reddish brown with a small white head. Aroma is dark bread, chocolate, honey and molasses. Taste is medium/heavy sweet and light/medium bitter.
3.6 Bottle at Zum Franziskaner. Reddish/brown with a large head. Sweet with malt, caramel, some chocolate and dried fruit.
4.1 Bottle from the brewery. Drunk while preparing dinner, vegetable and Italian bacon pasta. Dark brown, clear with a creamy fine head. Spicy caramel drops nose, very smooth nutty aroma. Flavor is sweet, brown sugar and spice, caramel nut sundae topping with a nice light earthy hop aftertaste. Masterful!
5.0 Best beer I’ve ever had! Dark, rich strong flavor, but not overpowering. Sweet with caramel and chocolate notes.
3.6 Old rating - 500ml bottle, pours dark amber with a off white head. Aromas & tastes of banana, dark berries, caramel, chocolate, herbs, cloves & malt. Medium body. Dry finish
3.8 Ampolla Hopt. Caramel, maltosa, fruita madura. Bona Doppelbock, però un pèl massa enganxosa i empalagos
3.7 50 cl bottle. Dark amber colour with a fluffy lightly tanned head. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, nuts, red fruits, chocolate, herbal hoppy notes. Taste is sweet. Medium to full body. Sweet, slightly drying finish. Nice Bock.
2.0 Big half liter bottle. Smell is surprisingly a little tart in nature, smell like a wild brew. To the eye its a darker brew but not real dark. Quite strong. Difficult, somewhat volatile & medicinal on the first taste. Carries a pretty good impact, socks you in the palate. Somewhat sweet & cloying. Numbing after a half glass. Impressive mouth coating feel. Perhaps I'm more of a straight dunkel fan, this a little too big for me.
4.5 This is a fantastic doppelbock. Malty sticky sweet and fruity. Ticks all the boxes. Great beer.
3.7 Don't really drink much of this style lately...especially an import, as has been trying to focus on local brew...so good to step away real quick from the hazy hoppy trend. This is a solid representation. Maybe a little darker than the average doppel. Has that malty bready flavor which I like a lot. A little wheaty lager yeast flavor on the finish, with mild banana and clove. Learning how to brew some of these German beers, so always good to do some R&D.
4.4 500ml bottle brewed in Germany at 7.1%. impressive clear dark ruby with a generous, good-duration ivory head. Lush chocolate aroma with supporting caramel, dark brown bread and a little strawberry. Low carbonation, thick somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Strawberry, a little grassy hop, brown bread crust, chocolate, caramel, toffee, fudge - what a treat of a Doppelbock. Piquant dark chocolate bitter spice in the aftertaste. Tastes great, but the superb mouthfeel is what seals the deal.
3.9 Deep clear copper pour with a khaki head and spots of lacing ...: aroma is of caramel malts, chocolate and dark fruits with candi sugar .... first thing you notice in the taste is the mouthfeel, slick, soft, creamy, silky wow so delicate and amazing reminds me of some of the Trappist beers .... taste is of caramel malts, roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruits, doesn’t taste as sugary as it smells ..... finish is soft and balanced with chocolate, dark fruits and caramel malts .... abrupt finish flavors do not linger long after .... definitely one of the top brews for the style
4.2 Clear mahogany with somewhat sparse rising bubbles. 1 1/2 tan head, thick, with good retention. It forms pock marks as it recedes and leaves behind momentary lacing which slides down into the beer. Rich aroma. Dark fruits and sweet molasses. Raisins and figs. Some toast. The toasted pumpernickel bread is more up front in the flavor than in the taste. Blending in nicely are the dark fruits and sweet bready malts. The middle and finish are smooth and complex. It tends toward the sweet, but the totality is a sumptious blend of the various flavors. The aftertaste is on the sweet side, but not overly so, and leaves a pleasant coating. Mouth feel is luxurious and medium-to-substantial. Overall, this is a full and gorgeous doppelbock. Complex, mellow, and a wonderful interplay of flavors.
3.7 Miedziane, klarowne, z obfitą, średnio trwałą pianą. Pachnie delikatnie - karmel, rodzynki, tosty. Półsłodkie, głównie susz, karmel, melasa, razowiec. Niska, ziołowa goryczka, dość niskie co2, może niezbyt gęste, ale na pewno nie wodniste. Ok.
3.9 Backlog. Pours a deep reddish brown and has a rich caramel malt aroma. The robust, malty flavor is roasty with Camarillo and toffee. Full bodied, this is a really tasty malt driven brew.
