Anderson Valley Heelch O' Hops

Anderson Valley Heelch O' Hops

Robust. Brewed with a “heelch” (that means “a lot” in Boontling) of Columbus, Chinook, and Cascade hops, our double IPA has a palate pleasing bitterness that is artfully balanced with a full-bodied malt foundation. With a deep color of polished brass and a nose that sings of pink grapefruit and redwood needles, the rich biscuit-like malt flavors are intertwined with hints of vanilla, mangoes, and peppercorns leading to a deep, warming finish.

MALTS:

3.4 Tap at Brody’s. Hazy golden with lasting creamy head. Caramel, peach, soft apricot, candied orange, bitter herbs, soft dank hops, light cardboard, earthy. Over medium sweet, bitter and bodied. Not bad but maybe a bit too old? Not much aromatic hops here.
3.6 Tap at Brody's. Near clear golden with white head. Sweet malts, funky moldy happy fruitiness. Big sweet and moderate bitter. Over medium body and soft carbonation.
2.5 A bottle from the basement of 101. Aroma: floral, spruce. Appearance: hazy dark amber, residual lacing. Palate: medium-bodied and oily, average carbonation. Long and flavoursome, very astringent finish. Taste: heavily bitter with some citrus flavour. Not my favourite by any means, but a respectable representative of the style.
4.0 清淡爽口,香氣十足
3.2 Hop is there. However the bitterness is dominated by the citrus. It's acidity remains lingering in the mouth.
3.8 From Optimus Beer. After dinner, in Roquetas de Mar. In shaker glass. Smooth to the palate. Very resinous, but with a refreshing sweetness that makes it not become a disgusting pine soup. High abv that affects
4.0 Bottle at Dogma Bottle shop. Expires at 27.07.2017. Not as hoppy as it used to be - at this, almost one year, age but malty and sweet, yet bitter enough. Nice beer, the best from the brewery.
3.7 It has something distinctive in the aroma and I can’t point out exactly what if feels like. There’s some resin, some liquor and some pine needles in it with a slightly citrus touch. It just looks so good, perfectly clear amber and a thick and durable white head. I left it for a while outside the fridge which I guess enhances the aroma but at the same time I guess the palate would feel a bit better if it was colder. It’s good anyway, don’t get me wrong. I guess my problem is that it is strikingly strong so I guess being a bit colder it would numb the bitterness down a bit. Still, much better to be overly intense than to be too plain in my opinion. Just drink it sip by sip, don’t rush it.
2.6 This makes a nice foamy head, with a golden amber colour and some cloud haze which settles. Has a lot of hops aroma and a fair whack of alcohol on top - peach, pineapple and citrus - with a liqour like sweet taste and some mild bitterness to finish. Maybe I’m not used to a DIPA, but tastes way over the top alcoholic for me...
3.8 Bottle. Clear deep golden. Small off-white head. Stays. Honey and melon as well as lollipop and mango on nose. Medium to full body. Well balanced taste with solid both sweetness and citrusy bitterness. Long hoppy ending.
3.8 Smart, polished and assured. Almost ’lite’ but there’s a lot to be said for balance and sensible palate weight. Almost sessionable despite the 8%+. Some funky grassy bitterness late but well matched with a decent load of hops. I find this very very easy to like.
4.1 Sabor e aroma com notas silvestres, cor âmbar e boa carbonatação, corpo médio, garrafa 33cl
4.1 Birra dal colore dorato tendente all’ambrato. Schiuma cremosa e persistente. All’olfatto sentori di esotica, carsmello e frutta candita.
3.1 Dark golden to bronze in color. Dense, tight bubbled, heavy cream colored head. Thick lace. Aromas of citric and piney hops. Some honey and old sap and soap scents. Feel is a bit sticky. Flavors include sweet malt and honey, grapefruit, pine and, I’m still catching some soap. Just not digging the IIPAs from Anderson Valley. Anise, as I get toward the bottom of the glass I final detect the component that is really throwing me off . ANISE - One of those thing I am very selective in liking, and in beer is not one of the places. 2/13
3.0 Bottled. Hazy goldeny amber colour with a small white head.Aroma is slight alcohol, some sweet malts, caramel, fruity and floral hops along with mild nectary and honey like notes. Flavour is alcohol, sweet malts, caramel, some herbal, grassy and resiny notes.
3.7 Sample at Winking Lizard during the "Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Night" on 12/09/2016. The beer is a cloudy orange-gold color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Citrus, hops and malt in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of piney hops, fruit and caramel malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a fruity hop aftertaste. Above average overall.
3.5 A hazed golden DIPA with a thick frothy lacing off white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, nice and classic. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity biscuit malt with light vinous notes, resinous floral hops, treacle, light butterscotch, alcohol warmth, light citrus, very nice.
3.3 Unclear, orange-golden colored, medium- off white frothy head. Aroma is of caramel, carob, orange hard candy, some light fruit and citrus, sure signs of the Atlantic. Taste is medium+ sweet malt, caramel, carob and orange hard candy, light+ fruity and citrus hops, medium+ bitterness. Medium+ bodied, soft carbonation, sticky. Another IPA lost at sea... (on tap, Craft Room, Zagreb)
3.0 On tap at Craft Room. Misty dark orange/something body, small white head. Dry orange notes and biscuity maltiness in the aroma, panettone, and something else, strange. Definitely not the way even an APA, let alone a Double IPA should smell. This was gone ages ago. The taste verifies that. Dry caramel taste with vague herbal hoppy notes and a papery finish similar to the much better preserved Hop Ottin’. I hope to rerate it from a fresh bottle, as with Hop Ottin’ really, but this in particular, as this was a major disappointment. It’s really a shame that hop-driven beers this old are being sold and shipped around - and through no fault of the brewery or maybe even the pub.
4.5 Aroma: Biscuit, resin, spruce, citrus, pine needles, pine bark, forest mushroom, alcohol is really there too ; Appearance: pale, copper, hazy, white foam, full head ; light sweetness, medium bitterness ; Palate: medium to full body, slick feel, average carbonation, bitter, long finish. Overall a very good and complex IPA, though not bitter enough for my own taste, it gives a pretty cool warmth down the throat (and a quick alcohol high too). Above all, this beer smells, tastes and feels like being in a forest. If I close my eyes while drinking it, i can easily imagine smelling the forest soil after a rain, feeling the bark of the trees, and hearing the sounds of the forest. It is a strange thing to say for a beer, and i was the first one to be surprised, but that is what I felt. - Should perfectly fit a mushroom and venaison meal, also.
2.5 Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer.
4.1 Amber clear with rich white head. Sweet grain aroma. Strong malty sweetness with medium sourness and bitterness. Very good, but too sweet for me. Sweet malty aftertaste with good bitter notes.
4.1 355ml bottle. Pours hazy gold with a large off-white head. Aroma is mango, caramel, vanilla, peach. Taste is bitter and hoppy, pine and citrus fruits.
3.7 Draught at Biermesse Ried: Very hazy, dark golden color, white head. Aroma is malty, caramelic, sweetness, hops with mainly herbs. Flavor is also malty, sweetness, caramel, herbal hops, pine. Nice.
3.7 An aroma of caramel, fruit and a resiny hops. A hazy caramel color with a lasting white head. Taste of caramel hops and resin with a hint of fermented fruits. A medium body with a piney finish.
