The Dortmunder-Export style of beer was developed in Westfalen, Germany, and is a classic light lager with great character. This style boasts a light golden blonde color and exhibits a moderate hop palate. The finish of our Mountain Lager is rich yet mellow.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
(bottled on day 204 of 2013 = July 23, 2013)
Appearance – The beer pours a crystal clear golden straw color with a tiny white head. The fizzy head fades almost instantly, leaving almost no lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is overall sweet with a moderately strong aroma of corn syrup and a very light caramel. Along with these smells are some grainy and bready smells with just a hint of a citrus smell. Overall rather cloying in aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a rather sweet corn syrup flavor as well as some lighter bready flavors. The sweetness of corn syrup grows even stronger as the taste moves on with some lighter grain flavors joining the taste as well. A little bit of hay and earth join the flavor at the end leaving a rather overly sweet flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to slightly thicker side for a lager of 5.2 % abv. with a carbonation level that is rather average. A thinner body and higher carbonation would have been better for the brew, hiding some of the more cloying flavors and making it an easier and more refreshing drinker.
Overall – This is certainly not a beer I would recommend. Very cloying and rather unbalanced in flavors and feel. Most adjusts are far superior to this with a much lower cost and actually a better taste. I will likely not come back to this brew.
2.3On tap at the Harrisburg brew pub. Pours a clear amber with a ring of white head. Nose is corny, cheap malt, metal root veg, cheap pine. Flavor is sweet, cheaply sweet, corn, pine, rotted carrot. Watery finish.
1.8Draft at the Collegeville brewpub. Pours clear yellow with minimal head. The aroma is almost non existing. The taste is light, hay, limited.
2.6Light grainy aroma, with a touch of sweetness. Pours a clear light gold with minimal white head. Tastes underattenuated, with a sweetness left behind, and no noticeable hop flavor. A truly mediocre beer.
2.6Clear yellow urine color. Minimal head and lace. Aroma of malt, hop, wheat, lemons, pine, spices (pepper). Flavor is the same. Robust malt flavors are giving me a headache but only slightly. I think when this happens I have to chalk it up to raw yeast/malt. It happens with a Yuengling, too. Light body quick duration.
1.7Weak lager. Very watery. Aroma is light sweetness. Flavor is grassy and lightly grainy.
3.3Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a clear golden colored body with small slowly rising bubbles. A small white head leaving a film on top of the beer appeared and left some light mild lacing.
The smell was malty with some really light citrus.
The taste was malts and light citrus and added a slight corn taste that ended up tasting pretty good.
The palate was light and left a sweet yet wet aftertaste and finish.
Overall, this was a good dortmunder that I would come back to. I’m glad I picked up a variety pack with this in it.
1.9Clear golden body, medium to thin white head, spotty lacing. Sweet grains and cereals, fairly fruity in the nose. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, off-putting sweetness, muddled finish.
2.7Light bodied golden ale with fluffy light head. Grainy and pale lager like beer. Easy to drink.
3.3Picket up a bear paw growler in Collegeville, Pa. Light yet flavorful with mild malty notes. Very drinkable.
3.2My buddy brought this beer home in a growler that looked like a hobbit’s lantern. Pours crystal clear with a thin layer of head. Tastes crisp and clear, agood lager.
2.0Draft at the brewpub in Gettysburg. Pours perfectly clear pale gold with a thin white head. Tastes like malt, musk, and skunky beer. Light body and low carbonation. Not much aroma, hints of grains.
2.7Tap at Appalachian, Collegeville, 29/11/13.
Clear golden blonde with a thin white head.
Nose is sweet, pale malts, straw, grass, light caramel.
Taste comprises pale malt, cereals, light citrics, grass.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry closure.
Ok Helles, a little too sweet though.
3.4A: Clear Golden Straw Hue, Passes All Light, White Head Ring, Mild Lacing
S: German Malts, Mild Citrus
T: German Malts, Mild Corn, Mild Citrus
M: Average Carbonation, Light Bodied, Mildly Sweet, Mildly Drying
Overall, an average dortmunder but drinkable on its own.
1.812oz bottle. Pours a hazy, golden blonde with a thin, meager head that quickly dissipates. Faint aroma of white bread. Taste is light and crisp, settling into a creamy, lemony sweetness on the palate. Refreshing, but otherwise unremarkable.
2.4Moderately bitter up front, this beer develops a grainy, biscuit-like flavor towards the back. However, it’s so light in flavor, you almost miss the whole thing. They really needed to add more to this beer.
2.1Pours a pale yellow with a fizzy head that leaves almost no lacing. The nose is of a macro corn plasticity. Flavors are similar, of sweet adjunct corn and timid grains to finish. It "feels" like a macro lager... too "corn" sweet, fizzy carbonation, light seltzer mouthfeel and a plastic effervescence. I so wanted to like it more, but honestly, I just can’t.
2.4Poured from a bottle. Pale gold, virtually no head. Aroma is earthy with some malt and yeast. Taste is on the sweet side, but rather bland. Light to medium body with low carbonation. Goes down smoothly, but not a beer I’d try again.
2.5A typical lager with a slightly different taste. I can't put my finger on what the slight taste is but it isn't terrible
1.8Sigh, I’m not sure why I expect much from a flagship lager.. this one tasted like macro swill. Pale yellow straw color, corn nose... bleh.
2.6Golden yellow with quickly disapating head. Aroma is faint malt with slight hops. Flavor is crisp with nice hops for a lager.
2.6Bottle from ABC variety pack. Poured into pint glass, clear pale gold color with white head. Aroma of sweet pale malt, straw and faint floral hops. Taste is malt sweetness, very little hop notes. Light body, light carbonation, crisp. Slightly better then the average macro, but only slightly.
2.9Aroma: Sweet grainy aroma from the malt, some noble hops in there providing a floral aroma. Apperance: Excellent clarity, good golden color and head retention. Taste: Nice, slightly sweet malt profile. Medium hop bitterness, but think it could use a little more hops to support the malt. Palate: Mouthfeel was very good and it was filled with a great malt profile. I just wish the hops were a little more balanced with the malt. Overall: Great overall drinking beer, very close to the dortmunder-export style but would like some more noble hops added so the it is better balanced.
3.0Draft. Clear medium gold color pour, with a white head. Biscuit, lightly bitter hops, and sweetness. Decent, easily drinkable.
2.1On tap at the brewery. Clear pale gold pour. Aroma is really not so hot, lots of corn like aromas, yeasty fermentation smells. Tastes just like a regular pale lager, lots of sweet adjunct and not much else. Unfortunate.
2.2bottle pours a small head, spare lacing, clean body, yellow color. light malt, light hops heavy yeasty flavor. full body thick texture average carbonation.
2.7Serving: Draft. It pours a light yellow color. The nose is super light with just a touch of malt. Grainy flavor with low to no hop presence. Thin body. Not impressed.
2.6Draft at the source. Pale clear yellow. Aroma of straw. Taste is bitter hay and white pepper.
2.5decent aroma with a light color. light in flavor, but malty flavor and a hint of honey.
3.0Bottle. Light malt aroma. Golden with a small very quickly dissipating white head. Malt flavor with a very light hop bitterness. Light carbonated body.
