Arcadia Cocoa Loco Triple Chocolate Stout

Arcadia Cocoa Loco Triple Chocolate Stout

This triple chocolate stout is a unique interpretation of the style, combining three different chocolate malts, cacao nibs and sixty three percent semi-sweet chocolate, creating a sinfully delicious brew. The addition of blackstrap molasses produces an earthy, caramelized tone in an already complex flavor profile. It’s creamy, milkshake-like mouthfeel earns this beer the reputation of being dessert in glass

2.8 Just ok, the chocolate is there but things don’t see well integrated and the body is too thin. Drinkable but just not great. Something about Arcadia beers just don’t seem to excite me (yet).
3.0 Draft at Milkboy. Opaque brown pour with a head that quickly disappeared entirely. Chocolate liquorice. Some cold coffee. Some light charcoal grill. No bad notes but still feels way too shallow to tango with the big boys. Could be improved.
3.4 draft that poured a dark brown to almost black in color. minimal mocha head. the aroma was dark malts, cocoa. the body was a little thin for this or maybe I am just mistaken. the flavor was just ok for me. you get the roasted malts mixed in with the chocolate. nothing over the top about this one its just your run of the mill chocolate stouts.
4.2 It has a very dark brown colored body with a lighter brown colored head on top. The head is thick and very slowly fades to thin cap which hangs on till the end and make for some slick lace on the glass. The aroma has loads of roasted dark malts that fills the nose with notes of dark chocolate and just hint of the hops. Its flavor has big roasted dark malt sweetness with notes of dark chocolate, creamy milk chocolate, dark caramel and molasses. Hop flavor comes out in the finish and adds some modest bitterness for balance. Its palate quite firm and has a smooth creamy texture with lively carbonation.
3.2 On tap at Brunzies. Mild roast, bit of chocolate and coffee and Tootsie Roll. Carbonic tang and soy. Dark brown-black clear with thin frothy off-white head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts sweet with cocoa and coffee, Tootsie Roll. Dusty grain and roasted barley. Sweet smooth finish with nutty after, tinny.
3.1 Bottled 09/12. Mediocre chocolate stout, molasses and lactose mainly contribute a cloying taste. Lots better chocolate stout is out there.
3.6 Looks and smells great! Like a good stout shoulf...However the chocolate is way too overpowering.... terribly dry finish.... a few slight changes could make this a top notch stout
3.5 Wow a great chocolate aroma, flavor is a little weaker and a tad thin, so close to a fantastic beer.
2.4 Dark brown pour with a light beige head. Aromas of subtle cocoa and sweet malts. Body is thin and the flavor watery malts with just a touch of chocolate. Not anywhere near as rich and robust as I was hoping for. Not offensive, but pretty darn boring.
3.0 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Cola brown in color, minimal off white head and no lacing. Aroma of chocolate and malts. Taste is a bit bland, chocolate and roasted malts. Not that great, lacks thickness and richness, just OK.
3.1 [Tap] Opaque black pour with a rocky brown head. Nose is of bitter chocolate, ash and light coffee. Charred malts, bitter chocolate, wood ash and light vanilla in the taste. Moderately astringent. Harsh malts didn’t seem to blend well with the cocoa sweetness here. Just OK. Tasting notes from 12/2011.
3.3 Pours black. Aroma is chocolate and some molasses. Taste is dark chocolate and roasted malts.
3.5 Bottled 12/04/13. Poured 3/18/14. $2.69 or something like that for a single bottle. A bit expensive for an Arcadia beer, but I’ve been craving a lot of stouts recently. Appearance: A black color with some ruby on the edges. There appears to be a lot of floaters in there as well, but that may be from the Too Cream Stout from Dark Horse that I just had. Not much of a head at all, and only a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. Smell: Am I the only one disappointed? Truthfully, this smells like a Shock Top attempt at a stout or something. I get a lot of graininess as opposed to roastiness. The minor bit of a cocoa note that I get pushes the rating up just a tick, but really, this is a quite underwhelming smelling beer. I think the molasses that this beer is brewed with is contributing to that grainy smell over the roastiness. Taste/feel: Like the smell. Man, quite disappointing. It has a cheap grainy flavor to it quite a bit through. With the molasses and grain -- call me crazy -- it has an underlying flavor of caramel popcorn. The molasses sweetness comes off as the kind of sweetness you’d find in a cheap amber, as it tastes artificial and it doesn’t exactly add anything positive. Cocoa? I honestly can’t say I pick up a specific chocolate flavor. It tastes like a stout loaded with molasses, which again, comes off as artificial tasting. The aftertaste gives a bit of roastiness, but again, it doesn’t specifically taste like chocolate to me. The feel is medium/slick with a mild/moderate carbonation. Not impressed. Would be a recommended buy at $2, but at $2.69, I’d say pass. Rather than compliment, the molasses seems to dominate. Not in that this is an overwhelmingly sweet beer (though it is quite sweet), but in that the flavor of it with the cheap grainy vibe I pick up is just not something worth $2.69 a pop. Cocoa Loco is a pretty good beer, but after having Too Cream Stout, this beer just isn’t doing it for me.
2.8 Hmm. Just not the stout I had hoped for. Very flat and bland tasting. Not rich or creamy. Can't detect pretty much any cocoa on the nose or palate. Drinks more like a pale ale than a stout.
2.9 12oz bottle - pours medium brown thin tan head . Fruity cherry aromas . Taste is lactose sweet , no real cocoa notes . Ehhh ok I suppose .
2.5 (Bottle). Metallic or tinny aroma with no cocoa or sweetness. Appearance is deep brown with quickly dissipating head. The flavor is lacking cocoa, well roasted and slightly bitter. Now labeled as simply Cocoa Loco with new artwork on label.
3.0 Chocolate aroma and taste as indicated by the name. Not much else to it tho. Mediocre at best.
3.1 Bottle. Lots of chocolate. Although I figured there would have been more of it. Not very loco. Roast malts and hop notes kind of come through but you really have to look.
3.1 1/24/14. $3.89 bottle @ CBO. First of 2 beers drank that night (nugget nectar the other. Never drank 2 there before). What a HUGE disappoint!! $3.89 seemed high for a beer that was as bland as this one was. Not much nose. Not much head. Not a whole lot of taste. Over priced and overly MEH
3.4 Draft sampler at brewpub, dark brown nearly black pour. Roasted malts on the nose. Taste is roasted dark malt and chocolate, pretty decent.
3.6 Decent stout. Not much aroma on the nose. Palate of dark choc, oak. Very thin on the pallate. Pours a deep deep black with almost non existent thin head. Draft at brewery.
3.5 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/26/2013. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, biscuit, molasses, raisin, light coffee, light anise, light cream, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Ok aromas with solid balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and cocoa/molasses notes; with decent strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, biscuit, molasses, raisin, light coffee, light cream, light anise, herbal, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, molasses, roasted malt, toast, biscuit, raisin, light anise, herbal, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good balance and complexity of bready/roasted malt and cocoa/molasses flavors; with good robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a solid stout. Solid robustness and complexity of dark/bready malt and cocoa/molasses flavors; and very smooth to drink. A fairly enjoyable offering.
3.4 Aroma is dry dark malts, light chocolate and a hint of funk/fruit. The flavor is dry malts, chocolate, dark fruit and a slightly funky and acidic finish.
2.4 Weird. Just weird. Something is off with it and i just can?t place it. Couldn?t finish it.
3.2 Dark brown stout. Has a taste that’s a mix of some coffee and some chocolate with a light bitter finish. It’s a little too rich on the molasses.
3.5 Black pour from bottle. Lacy head. Carbonation taste. Rich. Nutty backbone. Like a strong White Russian. Good
3.2 bottle. very deep brown with small head. lots of chocolate and roasted malt. a bit on the boozy side.
3.3 Bottle: super dark brown pour, black as it sits in the glass; creamy tan head that slowly settles to a thin collar. Aroma is creamy cocoa notes, sweet molasses, a touch of vanilla, & I even get a mild chile spice, though there are no chilies in this beer. Taste is kind of thin, but full of some sweet condensed milk, bittersweet chocolates, a hint of coffee & roast, and again, some back-end spice that reminds me of very faint chilies. Good beer, though it can wear the palate quickly.
3.2 Bottle. Black with a light tan head. Aroma is chocolate and a little lactic acid. Taste is dark chocolate, roasted malt and some hop bitterness. Palate is slightly on the thin side with moderate carbonation. A little less sweet than I was expecting given the description.
2.2 Opaque black with a short-lived brown head, tiny dots of lace. Taste is a mess - roasted malt, bitter chocolate, dark dried fruit, hop bitters, each fighting for prominence. Only 7% abv, but seems higher. I expected a brew resembling a milk stout, but this is a sticky conglomeration that doesn’t work on any level.
