Arcadia Hopmouth

Arcadia Hopmouth

This remarkably balanced brew has a deep amber hue with a generous white head. Hopmouth showcases a rich, toasty flavor and sweet caramel notes because of the high-quality Maris Otter malt used. The hops are up front in the aroma, reminiscent of citrus and pine, while the resin-like flavors linger well after the last sip.

2.8 Tap at Fox & Hound in Arlington Heights. Alcohol, plastic bottle, light piney/resiny hop and old bread. Tastes like old bread with a slightly bitter finish. Medium body with a chalky.
3.3 Sweet smelling with slight pine hops in the background. Dark for the style, burnt orange with an off white sticky head. 2 dimensional taste. Only malt up front, only hops after. Not very well balanced. Palate is decent. This beer is missing something. This bottle is over a year old, perhaps that's why.
3.5 Bottle. Dark cloudy copper pour. Head dissipates quickly, moderate lacing. Pleasant aroma, tangerines, pine. Smooth taste, malty body and moderate bitterness. A little boozy at the finish.
3.8 355ml bottle at home. Unclear orange amber color with off white head. Hoppy and malty aroma, pine, citrusy fruity, grapefruit and caramel. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation
3.3 Some fruity notes (grapefruit and other citrus) that goes above the bitter citrus usually noted in IPAs. Punchy, mildly bitter. Some pine and resin. Longer, rolling finish.
4.0 12 oz bottle. tasted like eating a garden of hops. Somewhat dry but sorta balanced. Not bad for this type of brew.
3.5 Pours a cloudy dark reddish-orange with a small off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops and lots of sweetness, some spices and malt. Tastes of mostly citrus and resin hops nicely backed by caramel malt. Medium bodied.
4.0 Flaska.
3.2 Citrus and pine. Sweet caramel notes. Oily head. Nice read color. Interesting flavor. Bitter in a oily way.
3.6 Nice DIPA from the brewery that first got me into craft brews. While mild compared to some NW doubles, the flavor is nice and clean, even some caramel malts slip through the dense hops. A bit flat on the finish, but good all around.
4.1 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/29/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/citrus peel bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange zest, caramel, toffee, toast, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and fairly crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent malty DIPA style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
4.2 A very tasty double IPA. Just the right amount of hops flavor without being overpowering. Great balance.
3.3 I like it; just don't love it. Very well balanced for a DIPA; only problem is that I like hop bombs for DIPAs. Very fragrant but the nose is really floral.
3.4 12 oz bottle poured into a tulip..copper pour with a fluffy white head.aroma of pine,resin,caramel,hops..sticky mouthfeel..piney,resinous,hoppy..not citrusy..just ok.
3.5 bottle. mild for an imperial IPA - kind of on the weak side. Still better than most beers. pretty good
3.3 Draught. Dark amber with small foamy beige head, floral hops aroma, medium carbonation, strong hops taste, long finish with hops aftertaste. Quite strong and sharp.
3.5 bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Hazy dark amber brown color, white head cover, streaks of lace. Nice malt aroma. Taste is strong dark caramel malt that becomes stronger and adds hops and alcohol on the swallow, hanging tough for a long time. Big, almost too much to relax and enjoy.
3.6 Pours an amber color with a nice head. Aroma has some hops up front with some citrus and pine. There is citrus up front like grapefruit and melon but there is also some hop bitterness on the backend. Not a heavy DIPA but pretty good.
4.0 Poured from the bottle of a 4-pack to a pint glass, this is a good looking glass of beer. Smell is clean and is very easy drinking especially since it’s 8%. Would like to see it in a 6 pack.
2.5 Julie says it is yucky. Not a Julie beer filling her mouth with hops not a Julie beer. She gives a 0.5
3.1 GABF 2014 Clear dark golden with a small off-white head. Aroma is floral and malty. Taste is floral and mild caramel OK, mild
3.1 Kind of a coppery aftertaste. Other than that, a nice thick hoppy sweet brew. Alcohol content not too noticeable which is good.
4.1 There is a deep copper brown body with dark amber highlights and a light haze. Up on top it has a two finger thick foam head that slowly fades to a thin light beige covering. This covering hangs on well and makes lots a spotty lacing. I get a heavy and sweet malt with equal amounts of citrus hops. Notes of booze covered raisins with canned mandarin oranges and lemon zest mingle over a bed of grain. There is lots of lemon and lemon zest with orange like hop notes coming through rich sweet bready and grain flavored maltiness. Its abv is noticeable and warming. The finish has more herbal/leafy hop notes pushing in with a solid bitterness slowly fading from the tongue. It texture has a slightly slick feel with light carbonation.
3.1 pours hazy bright golden, red tint, with a creamy off-white head, good retention and lacing. citrus and pine - floor cleaner-like, grapefruit, melons, dill and mint - kind of awkward spicy notes, grass and weed, doughy and spicy fruitiness, dense and sweet - oranges too, booze - tingling. moderately carbonation, medium body - oily and a bit sticky, harsh spicy-citrusy-piney finish. blah.
3.3 In growler from Hopcat. Wow. Really fresh and strong hop taste. Maybe a bit too hoppy for me.
3.6 12 oz bottle. Copper-brown with a lovely, medium, off-white head that sticks around for the duration. Nice lacing as well. Pine and semi-sweet citrus dominate the nose. A little caramel underneath. Not overpowering, by any means, but appealing. The flavour doesn’t vary from this much, although the malt comes up a bit to provide more balance. Nice body. Simple, but solid IIPA.
3.5 From a 12 oz bottle shared while Airstreaming across Canada. Pours a hazy dark copper with a thick ecru head. Grassy nose. Flavors of resin, pine nuts and caramel malts. Smooth, mildly bitter finish.
3.7 Aroma of citrus and biscuity malt. Taste is citrus, pine, biscuity malt, moderate bitterness, and some alcohol.
3.7 I can’t get over how beautiful the head is. It’s two-toned, between a dense, off-white color and a more frothy, medium brown. Even the lacing, which is so thick that it reminds me of frothed eggs stuck to the side of a poaching pan, has moments of white and others of brown. The color and frothiness reminds me of one of those foam mattress covers. Underneath that strong, long-lasting head lives a bold, deep burnt orange colored ale that appears to be bursting with douhy sweetness. The nose is soft, and although sweet not as sweet as I expected, with a slightly citrusy hop character that really reaches up into your sinuses. The beer is wickedly smooth in the mouth, almost creamy, but more porous. The beer looks like it’s loaded with residual sugars, but it’s really kept well under control. It could be that this beer is nearly a year old now, and for that accident I am grateful. It’s earthy in the mouth, with flavors of rustic grains and husks present throughout. There’s a nice bitterness that really only shows its face in the finish, and even then it inherits a blunt smoothness from the distinctive body.
