Arcadia Nut Brown Ale

Arcadia Nut Brown Ale

This English-style brown ale has an alluring mahogany color capped by a rich foam head. It is brewed with six different varieties of premium malted barley, creating a robust body and delicious flavor profile featuring hints of chocolate, raisins, dates and almonds. Its ripe fruit notes and malty, sweet finish are counterbalanced by a subtle hop bitterness and aroma.

3.1 bottle. Brown with one finger head. Pretty average brown ale. Caramel malt and some toasted nut.
2.5 Has an opaque brown color. A little sour, but not a lot of flavor. Maybe a hint of nut, very little caramel malts. Disappointing.
3.5 Not a bad brown ale. Nutty, caramel, subtle chocolate, and dark fruit. Medium bodied, thick head and rich.
3.0 Bottle: Deep, ruby-red and brown with clarity around the edges; off-white head fades rather quickly to a puny ring around the glass. Aroma is caramel malt, toffee, some burnt brown sugar, and lots of roast. Taste has a very nutty essence, touches of cocoa powder, roasted wood chips - not smoky, but more earthy, nutty, woodsy. Small hop profile; very mild herbal, tea-like hop leaves in the finish... dry, with a bit of orange zest even. Grape flavored sweetness in the aftertaste? More caramel, too. Not bad, just kind of all over the place. Not as coherent as many brown ales, decent.
3.2 Not the biggest fan of brown ales which might skew my rating here. I think I just dont like the heavy caramel flavors that follow with browns.
2.9 12 oz bottle pours hazy brown with a off white head. Aroma of toasted malts, fruit and a little nutty. Taste is malt, nutty and a hint of spice.
3.1 Bottle. Chestnut with a beige head. Roasty and sweet aromas. Malty and sour.
2.8 Hmmm... I expected more... a real bad alcohol finish that just doesnt suit this beer...
3.5 Sample at the brewpub on 3/29/13. Pours a clear reddish brown with a medium beige head. Aroma of malt, nuts and caramel. Malty flavor with a grapey and nutty character before a malty finish.
3.0 Bottle. Poured a deep brown color with a very large, bubbly tan head. Slightly sweet toffee malt aroma. More of the same with the flavor, with a subtle hint of sourness and peanuts in the finish. Well carbonated with a dry texture. Medium bodied. Drinkable, but leaves a weird lingering taste.
3.2 12oz bottle, bottled 11/01/12. Cool hazy brown color, lots of particles in the body. Thin off-white head, leaves a couple dots of lace. Medium-plus body. More smooth, crisp carbonation. Nutty, chocolatey taste. Some dark fruit (dates), light earthy hop. Interesting taste. Sweet, light bitter. Interesting brown ale... I dig the light fruitiness
3.5 Had on-tap at Green Dot Stables in Detroit. $3 for a 12oz mug. Hadn’t had it before, so why not. Appearance: Dark, dark brown with a little, brown, creamy head. Not much lacing to be seen. A pretty average brown ale. Smell: For some reason, I didn’t pull much out. Maybe my sniffer was broken. Very faint, dirty malt aroma, with maybe some traces of coffee. Almost reminiscent of a stout, but then again, I always figure brown ales are just a small step behind a stout/porter. Taste/feel: Average is as average does. It tastes like the smell... light on the aroma, light on the taste... easy drinking, but it’s just a middle-of-the-road brown that’s just not that interesting. Arcadia doesn’t make the best beer, but they make typical examples of styles without trying to "change the rules", so to speak.
2.5 Nice clear ruby dark copper color. some restrained toffee on the nose. toffee nutty flavor with some diacethyl and a weird dms finish. medium to light palate. a little off
3.1 Nice medium to dark brown color with good fluffy head that stays around for a bit. Aroma quite weak - some nutty malt and cocoa, but fainter than I’d like - have to search around for it. Starts out bland but has a very nice toasty, nutty, cocoa finish and bready aftertaste. Pretty standard, decent example of the style. Highly drinkable.
3.7 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/4/2012. Pours lightly hazy reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toast, cocoa, brown bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, and floral hop earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toast, chocolate, dark bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, light raisin, and floral hop earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toast, chocolate, dark bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, and floral earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance and robustness of malty flavors; with hardly any cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy, lightly slick, and earthy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice brown ale. Good balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering; though not as nutty as I would expect given the nut brown title.
3.5 Pours a deep Amber brown with minimal Tan head. Aromas of vanilla, malt and very little hop. Mouthfeel is full. Taste is light malt, vanilla, with a mild, boozy finish. Pretty tame brown ale, but overall pretty nice.
3.1 Draft to taster at Arcadia. Looks solid; a semi-transparent brown with light beige lacing. Smells semi-sweet, malty, and a little nutty. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. An alright example of the style.
3.6 nuts, earthy, leaves, red-brown, cloudy, white foam, umami, light sweetness, light body, thin feel, soft carbonation,
3.7 Brown in color, nutty aroma. Good malt taste with a caramel and nut finish. Well balanced beer. Great mouthfeel. Good interpitation of the style.
3.7 Dark walnut brown pour with quarter inch beige head. Sweet strong Carmel corn malt scent, subtle cola or licorice aroma as well. Bitter taste initially, then medium roasted carmel flavors come. Finish is sour and leaves a flavor similar to malt pancakes or waffles. Nice medium bodied brown ale, one of my favorites for the style.
3.4 The last brew from my jaunt in MI, as well as my last for awhile... 12 oz. bottle into a tumbler it went- poured transparent light brown with an amber tint when held to a light source in color, massive off tan in color head formed and tried to keep company, but it was getting late in the night... aroma of a good size malt loaded with caramel, some nut like quality (a almond/walnut fare), and the seed of change. Hits the mouth with a medium body, malt was just slightly roasted, sweetness in the middle, finish is firm and holding. It’s hard to say where I’ll be in a year, but I sure in the fuck hope it’s not in Texahhtucky... this place SUCKS!!! With that being said, time to shut it down for awhile- picking apart places they love... see ya at the bar!
3.4 Aroma is fruit, malts and a hint of citrus. The flavor is fruit, malts and somewhat smooth, somewhat tart finish.
3.0 Pours a hazy brown with absolutely no head. Aroma of light roasted malts, chocolate, and light fruit. Flavor of roasted malt, light nuts, and very light hop bitterness at the finish.
2.9 Light brown. Thick head. Drinkable. Not very nutty. Hints of raisen. Average body. I expect more from Arcadia, and I expect more from nut beers.
3.0 Mild nutty aroma, pours a reddish-brown with a thin white head. There’s a touch of roasted notes and a bit of sweetness, the alcohol is noticeable in this beer, which is surprising considering the low ABV. It’s light on the palate, and drinkable... but there are much better Brown ales out there.
2.8 Mahogany pour with a small off white head. Hints of chocolate, raisins, dark fruit. Mild bitterness on the finish. Thin bodied with good carbonation. Decent beer but I will reach for other browns next time I’m in the mood.
2.9 Almond and caramel flavor in a medium bodied brew. There was a floral smell and a bubbly palate. There was a deceptively big alcohol taste.
2.7 This is a cloudy red brown beer w/ a foamy head. Mild and earthy w/ a hint of sweetness, this is a drinkable brown with mild carbonation. Toffee-like malts dominate w/ a touch of roast and firm, hoppy bitterness in the finish. There is a very slight metallic off-not in the finish but it only bothers me if I look for it and doesn’t hinder drinkability.
2.9 draft... light brown, watery tan head... watery brown, boring and forgettable brown but ok
3.1 Small off-white, light brown head. Hazy body that was lightly cloudy. Color was a dark cross between red and amber. There was a light toffee and nutty aroma. The body was medium with a thin texture and average carbonation. Overall, there was good color, light toffee nutty aroma, no bitterness. OK.
