Arcadia Sky High Rye

Arcadia Sky High Rye

In honor of our adventurous friends at Sky Dive Inc. in Hastings, Michigan, we crafted a truly adventurous brew in Sky High Rye. A West Coast-style Pale Ale with rye malt, Sky High Rye boasts a massive floral aroma of resinous hops. The hops contribute flavor notes of lemons, peaches, and pine needles, combined with the sweet, malty flavors of toffee and bread. Rye adds a pleasant peppery, spicy note like a fresh slice of pumpernickel bread. Very well-rounded and very drinkable, Sky High Rye will surely inspire adventure in all who taste it.

This West Coast-style Pale Ale is brewed with eighty percent English barley malts and twenty percent rye malt. It boasts a massive floral aroma of resinous hops, contributing notes of lemons, peaches and pine needles and is anchored by the sweet malty flavors of toffee and freshly baked pumpernickel bread.

3.0 Can at bar in NYC. Yeah it seemed like a rye beer to me but it was so old that the hops had faded to a gross malt bomb. :(
3.4 Clear bronze pour, some headish. Watery aroma, rye, barley, resin hop, malt, pine and something a little sweet, thinking it’s the peach. Flavor is more mild and not as exciting. Bready and earthy with more pine and rye hop. A slight bitterness at the end plays with the fruit to make this beer almost memorable. Still not my favorite.
4.4 Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a murky orange-light brown color with a small white head. The aroma is full of hops and citrus. The taste is full on citrus, hops and rye. An excellent rye beer.
3.5 Pours pale yellow with a creamy white head. Aroma of citrus fruits, grass, and rye. Rye flavor with grass, and some citrus sweetness. Very nice beer.
3.4 Aroma is peaches, melon, and floral hops. Taste is melon, peach, rye, and then sharp floral hops.
2.4 Served in a pint glass on tap. One finger head that didn’t last. Very low viscosity with little to no lacing. Smell is faintly characteristic of hops and fruit but alarmingly it smells a bit like a light beer with a touch of alcohol coming through. As for the taste, it is much like a light beer upon the first few sips but after more careful evaluation, the tones listed in it’s description come through. Most notably a piny bite begins as soon as the beer traverses the back of the tongue. The beginning is generally tasteless like a light beer however the finish is piny, citrusy, and even sweet with no taste left behind. The mouthfeel is watery which explains a non lingering finish, lack of lacing, and why I connect this beer to a big name light beer. Overall this ipa may be good for someone wanting to stop drinking domestic lights and start drinking craft however this is not my first choice.
3.6 Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark reddish pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, orange peel, grapefruit, hints of spice, rye, toast, some earth. Taste was a mix of orange, rye, spice, toast into toffee, bread, some pine, finishing bitter.
4.0 Good aromas of citrus and hops, more fuity than I expected. Leaves lacing after a 1 in head, nice foam. Gets thin quickly but lingers through out the glass. Spicy rye with good malt and hop blend...very nice flavor with a little grapefruit bitterness in the finish---very flavorful all the way to the end. So far, my favorite rye IPA by far.
3.0 Draft in a flight at HalfCut. Pours a cloudy pale gold - lighter than expected - with a white head that settles into a ring and film while lacing the glass. Rye up front, with straw, grass, citrus zest (mostly lemon), and pale and crackery malts. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a bitter, malty mouthfeel. Not bad, just nothing special or that I’d feel like ordering again.
3.5 12 oz. bottle from notes. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, toasted bread, some spicy rye character, mild to moderate citrus and earthy notes, decent but unexciting beer. Available and decent enough, but I have not revisited the beer.
3.6 The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: pours orange with a white head. Aroma is rye malt, pine, and resin, and some underlying fruitiness. Taste is quite bitter, but there is also a definite smoothness to it. Aftertaste is long and lingering. Quite resinous. Pine there more than fruit. Good.
3.7 Can shared with Goetz. Purchased at Sicilianos in GR. really nice beer. My favorite of the evening bouts a slightly reddish copper with one finger of white head. Aroma is malty pine. Really nice beer.
3.7 Poured into a perfect pint. 4.0 A: Moderately hazed yellow orange color. Two fingers of frothy off-white head. Retention is about average and a good sized ring of lacing is left. 4.0 S: The rye in this is potent and pleasurable. Earthy and spicy, it gives its distinct aroma. Flowery and herbal hops underneath. A touch of yeast and a moderate neutral malt sweetness. 4.0 T: Tastes as good as it smells. Pretty much the same flavors as in the nose. Earthy, spicy rye, bready yeastiness, mild bitterness, floral and herbal hops, and neutral malt sweetness. There’s also a mild peachy fruitiness. 4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Pleasantly creamy and super smooth. 4.0 D: Solid beer all around. Pick this up if you’re a fan of rye. DavoleBomb, Jul 09, 2013
3.1 Can from Brooklyn Hazy orange color, steady white head. Malty, citrus, a bit of rye in the nose. Medium-bodied. Lemony, citric, sweetish fruity hoppy flavor. A bit plasticky citrusness and alcohol in the finish,
2.6 Light golden color with a tall, lasting cream colored head. Mild, may I say disappointing so, aromas. Hint of rye, light grass and hint of malt. Bits of orange and citrus. Not bad, just not there. Light flavors follow. No real feel from the rye. Some mild rye components mingle with pale grains and mild citrus. Obviously plenty of proteins as the head is very thick and meringue like. Seems watery and weak. 2/10
1.6 This beer didn’t cut it, grassy aroma, not much flavor and a really soapy looking head. At least they they the style right.....It was a Pale ale.
3.4 Poured into shaker a hazy gold with small short lasting head with minimal lace. Aroma was rye malts and floral. In the taste the rye stood out with a bit of grass and spice. Aftertaste rememded me a bit of potato.
3.6 Pours a cloudy, murky yellow color with minimal head retention. It does have some lacing though. You can taste the rye here which is nice. The spicy notes come through at the end and the beer has a nice bite to it. A very solid rye beer!
3.4 ライペールエール ちょっとフルーツっぽいでもちゃんとホッピーな香り 甘さ控えめでスッキリ
3.4 Clear Golden with small white head. Faint rye nose with grassy hops. Apple front, bittersweet back decent session. could be popular. basic easy.
3.4 Bottle@John Hancock Tower, Chicago. Clear golden color, thin white head. Citric hop aroma. Balanced hoppy flavor with a dry finish. Medium body, medium carbonation. Not bad by itself, but an excellent pairing with brie cheese!
2.6 12oz can. Unfiltered bright orange-tan body. Steady foamy white head. A lot of Rye in the aroma, coupled with some earthy lemony hops. Brighter than most Rye beers, but kind of odd and unenjoyable still. Sticky sweet tones all over the place. I am really not fond of Rye 90% of the time. Kind of gross, not off, just not enjoyable at all.
3.4 12 oz can from my buddy czar, thanks mate. Pours a slightly veiled golden-straw with a thick, resilient white head. Aroma is dry potato, peppercorn, dust. Flavor is spicy, fruity, cereals, pepper. Finish is very spicy, pepper, mint, some herbs. A tad bit lemony, too. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.4 Pours hazy golden color with a 1-finger off-white head. Mild citrus hops aroma mixed with a peppery, grassy rye note. Body is medium and a touch oily. Brief, mildly dry finish. Grassy flavor mixed wit grapefruit hops. A peppery rye note at the back.
3.5 Draught. Clear rich yellow with small white foamy head, crisp malth aroma, slightly bitter spicy rye taste, medium carbonation, long finish with slight burning sensation in throat. Has a nice kick, very enjoyable.
3.6 Transfer from BA review on 5-9-14- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a nice golden amber color with a one finger head of white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a decent leave of foam on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is light overall with some hints of a mainly a bready smell along with a bit of a citrus hoppy smell. Some other light peppery rye smalls are there as well with just a hint of pine. Taste – The taste begins with a bready and light rye taste mixed with a tangerine sweetness and some grapefruit upfront. There is a little bit of caramel that is later lost as it is buried by more citrus tangerine and grapefruit hop. All the while the rye builds a bit with it bringing along with it some lighter hop flavors of pine. In the end, with the bittering of the grapefruit hop and the moderateness of the rye flavors, one is left with a somewhat moderately fruity, bready rye, and decently bittered grapefruit hop taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. Both are rather nice for the mix of rye bread flavors as well as the hops and makes for a nice easy drinker. Overall – A rather easy drinking sweeter and more moderate rye brew. A nice one to try if you get a chance.
3.1 Bottle, pours gold with medium white head. Aromas of Pepper and a hint of grapefruit that follows thru to taste.
3.4 Bottle. Pour is golden. Aroma of grain, rye, elderflower, and mild fruits. Taste is sweet to bitter.
3.3 Hazy straw/gold color; Medium body; Aroma malt, yeast, hops, & light rye; Flavor of slight sweet malt, pine hops, rye, caramel, and citrus; Finish is slightly bitter; Not too bad.
3.1 Smooth and sweet. A bready, yeasty, rye flavor. A little bit of spice at the finish.
