A refreshing wheat beer spiced with fresh ginger root. The process of making this wheat beer has been nicknamed "special ginger tea", due to the fact that we add over 20 lbs. of fresh ground ginger root into the boil.
We use pale malt, and wheat, as well as Target and Whitbread Goldings Variation hops to flavor this light, summer ale.
Island Ginger is particularly popular during the warmer summer months, though thanks to the ginger kick it has, it would also be warming in the cold winter months.

3.2From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. The pour is a slightly hazy medium amber-copper with a head that erupts briefly and then fades away. The beer is brewed with ginger and that is the first aroma that my nose picks up. It is followed by pale malts and a crisp clean hop note. The body is about medium with a slight astringency. The taste is also ginger forward but mildly sweet. A clean finish. Something I need to be in the mood for.
3.7On tap in the brewery’s tasting room. Pours a hazed gold. Big spicy ginger, lots of ginger. Big spicy ginger, lots of balance though. Spicy ginger, wheat. Lovely. Surprisingly lovely.
2.9Draught at Drop Off, N.Y., June 1. Pours a deep copper-gold with a small diminishing frothy white head. Aroma is grainy, a bit fruity and with some light ginger -- too light for me. Disappointing flavour of caramel malt, grain, some fruit and again, very light ginger. Average bodied. Dull and the ginger is much too mild to bother with.
2.7Poured as a taster at the brewery. Pale golden color, little head. Ginger is almost overwhelming on the nose and the palate. There’s a bit of wheat underneath and a last bit of bitterness right at finish. Maybe with the right kind of food this might be good, but it’s just too gingery for my taste as a wheat beer. If there’s going to be ginger in a beer, I prefer it as a bit holiday ale with other spices mixed in.
2.7Drought. Hazy yellow-gray appearance, beige spongy head, fruity aroma, sweetish spicy taste, slightly bitter long finish. Interesting taste reminded me of a bitter named TEA to me.
2.3Bottle. This is just not my type of beer. The spicing is very noticeable and and for my palette unpleasant.
2.8Draft @ Mudville 9 NYC. Cloudy orange looking color. Tastes and smells like a wheat beer. Decent but nothing special. Ginger is there but doesn't go we'll with the consistency
3.0Amber color with a thin whitish head. Crisp, light, a hint of ginger. Earthy, malty. Not bad, but not a standout.
2.7Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden amber with a small white head. Aroma of ginger and wheat. Flavor is more of the same with a bit of caramel.
2.912oz bottle. Cloudy gold pour. Sweet grainy malt aroma. Tastes are wheat, ginger spice, peach and bread. Not my bag.
3.3Light amber color with a loud, fizzy off white head. Light spritzy nose. I expected a stronger ginger taste but this is pretty subtle. Some bready malts and berry fruitiness, with a ginger heat in the finish. Nothing wrong with it, but I expected more ginger.
2.1Cloudy dirty gold color with a persistent head and sheets of lace that run back into the glass. The taste is pretty much as advertised: light caramel malt and noticeable hops that are both punctured by an edgy sour ginger flavoring. It diesn’t quite work, even though I do give it points for originaltiy. Not a keeper.
2.3Bottle shared with Linh, Vi and Thi before Louis CK, October 2012. Pours a light golden amber with white lacing. Aroma is ginger and spice. Mouthfeel is carbonated with notes of ginger, caramel malts and additional spices. Nope.
3.2Tap at the brewpub. Earthy somewhat muddlet gingerroot and dough. Touch of caramel and lemongrass. Okay.
3.1Moderate ginger aroma. Cloudy dark yellow color with a small white head. Mild sweet ginger flavor throughout.
2.7On tap at the brewery. Light, refreshing, and straightforward, I don’t really taste the ginger, and neither did anyone else in my tasting group.
2.8Gift from SJ. Moderate ginger, spice and pumpkin and sweet malt flavors.
At some point, the flavor got on my nerves, but ti was still an ok beer.
3.4Ginger and a little sour funk in the aroma. Taste is sweet with ginger ale. A tiny bit of spice in the finish. I love ginger, so I think this is a fine beer, but it might not be for everybody.
2.512oz bottle in a plastic cup. Pours copper with a small head. Aroma of caramel malts, a little wheat, a little hops, and ginger. The ginger doesn’t go well with the wheat beer. Average texture. Not terrible but this beer isn’t for me.
2.8Pours deep orange with a white head. Aroma is wheat, ginger and some citrus. Taste is sweet with some tartness. Light mouth feel with a somewhat sticky texture. Refreshing.
1.812oz bottle. Minimal white head. A swirly haze in the body that I rarely (if ever) see, makes me wonder if this is OK to drink... Light crisp carbonation, but kind of a questionable milky texture. Nice, spicier gingery aroma, though. Decent zesty taste. Overall, the texture and appearance is too unsettling for me to finish this. No best-by date found.
3.0Poured a slightly hazy dark-yellow color with a thin off-white head that faded quickly. Aroma is a little skunky with some creme and wheat. Not that much ginger in the aroma. Taste has much more ginger with some caramel and bread. Slightly skunky. Finish is ok, but a little syrupy with more ginger. Overall it’s decent.
1.412oz bottle. Pours a medium orange. Skunky aroma, some... clove ? Yeasty, skunked taste. No ginger, just a familiar taste of a beer that may have been left in the sun for a day or year. Checking the bottle, the "best by" date isn’t marked in, but the year listing only goes up to 2010. It’s 2012. Uh oh. Hopefully this was skunked, otherwise it’s the worst micro I’ve ever had.
2.212oz. Bottle: Aroma of malt, grain, and a hint of ginger. Poured amber in color with a tiny, off-white, loose head that disappeared immediately. Cloudy. Slightly sparkling. Full of tiny particles, and a few large ones, throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of malt, grains, and slight ginger. Medium body. Lightly dry, lightly sticky texture. Average carbonation. Malt, grain, ginger finish is dry.
3.4Bronze amber hue. Mostly clear with slightly thick opacity. Sweet ginger at the start. Wheaty, delicious.
2.7Sample poured at the brewery. Unfiltered orange colour. Aroma is wheat malt, some citrus and a hint of ginger. Taste is mostly like a hefe with wheat and fruit. There is an underlying warmth I assume is the ginger, but the taste didn’t come through very strong. Palate was medium/light, a bit sticky. Overall, a bit of a let down. Having had a beer with WAY too much ginger and not much brew I was hoping to see someone do a better job. This wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t ginger enough to convince me ginger beer is a good idea.
2.8On tap at the BBQ joint on Knox Road in Bar Harbor. Comes in a light orange. Light head and carbonation. Aroma and flavor is of light ginger- it’s quite subtle. Malty-wheat backbone and body. Cuts through the smoky BBQ meats well.
3.4poured from the bottle at the brewery. I am not a ginger fan but this beer was good. Poured a golden color. Aroma was of wheat and very mild ginger. Flavor was faint ginger malts. Very refreshing.
3.5Bottle from the brewery, probably the best ginger beer I’ve ever had. Pour was golden in color, ok head and lacing. The aroma was faint ginger and a wheaty grainy base. The flavor followed, the ginger quite subtle and refreshing, tea, light malts, refreshing. Mouthfeel light and smooth. I can’t believe this was so drinkable.
2.2This beer was not nearly gingery enough for me. I was expecting to taste a tingly spice of ginger but I was sorely disappointed. It was refreshing but not up to my expectations.
