Atwater Decadent Dark Chocolate Ale

Atwater Decadent Dark Chocolate Ale

Holding true to the Northern English tradition, the Decadent Dark Chocolate Ale has at its foundation a nutty profile with a round mouthfeel. added is a Chocolate Extract consisting of three blended chocolates of varied depth. The result is a rich, but not overtly sweet, experience for both the beer and the chocolate enthusiast.

3.8 Bottle. Deep, dark in color. If your a chocolate lover, you would love this beer. Aroma is heavily roasted grains and chocolate. Taste is dark chocolate without much sweetness.
4.7 Poured from the tap into a mug at Taco Mac in Smyrna, GA. The beer has a great dark black color with a small tan head. The taste is an incredible chocolate flavor.
3.1 Tap at Clubhouse BFD. Nitro. Pours black, nitro head. Aroma is caramel, sweet chocolate, smells like a werther’s original. Flavor is caramel, chocolate. Nice but super thin body. Watery. Wayyyy too thin. Oh well. Nice nose.
3.6 Taps dark chocolate brown with a thin pale buff head. Aroma delivers strong sweet chocolate and roasted malt notes. Milk chocolate dominates the flavor while sharing the stage with roast malt and subtle woody hops and nutty tones. Mouthfeel presents decent body, OK fizz, and a chocolate finish. Get Detroit decadent!
2.9 Tad thin, sort of chalky chocolate taste. Mild maltiness. Decently drinkable. Meh.
3.2 Very bland on flavors. Aroma is chocolate bar. Styrofoam flavor. Thin fading head.
3.5 Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with coffee, roasted malts, and molasses. Flavor is bitter chocolate with some coffee and roasted malt. Not quite as thick as I was going but still good.
3.2 On nitro at Opal Divine’s pours thick black with a creamy tan head that lasts. Sweet vanilla aroma. Flavor is pure chocolate. Good medium bodied feel on nitro.
3.8 Deep dark pour, thin creamy brown head. Rich chocolate aroma, medium body, Does not resemble dark chocolate but the cocoa is present. Mild hopped finish.
3.0 Pours black with creamy off white head dissipates to about 1/8 inch. Slight lacing. Aroma is hot fudge sundae complete with whipped cream. This aroma seems artificial. Taste is like a thin bodied, smooth oatmeal stout mixed with Hershey’s syrup. Not bad, but doesn’t seem artfully constructed. I don’t know, maybe I’m being too harsh.
3.0 Opaque black with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, some cocoa, dark fruits. Taste of bitter roast, cocoa, on the thinner side.
3.6 Aroma is very malty with a pleasant but maybe fake chocolate/vanilla smell. Pours gorgeous with a large head that lasts a little while (but not long enough to leave lacing). Flavor surprisingly lacks much. Very watery and a little bitter at first, with notes of coffee, chocolate, and whipped cream on the back end. Aftertaste is actually much better than the initial flavor. Brew is too thin - they should thicken it up and increase the flavor a bit. This has so much potential but falls short.
3.9 Dark chocolate in color with a small fast fading head that smells strong with chocolate. Taste is chocolate candy and it goes well with ice cream and other desert items that beer normally will not. Thin body, was expecting it to be thicker and more decadent.
3.3 355ml bottle. Dark brown pour. Aroma of dark cocoa, flaovr is sweeter belgian chocolate, hint of bitterness, lower body, pretty good.
3.3 Appearance- Pours a dark brown, almost black with a small tan head. Aroma- Semi- sweet chocolate, smoky. Flavor-Dark chocolate, sweet, malty, some vanilla.
3.8 Instant Hershey chocolate smell right from the start. The taste of chocolate is definitely there, way beyond a hint of chocolate. Almost too much chocolate. Overall not bad, but if you don’t like chocolate, skip this one.
3.1 Dark brown color with tan foam. Big Hershey chocolate syrup, vanilla aromas. Dark chocolate syrup, black malt, vanilla, cola flavors____light bodied---decent.
3.3 It's very smooth...due to the nitro obviously. It has a chocolate coffeeness to it, that is quick on the acidity and fades to a weak coffee.
4.5 The aroma is this beer is untouchable. The dark chocolate flavor is very rich and smooth for an unbelievably crisp taste. Would definitely drink again
3.3 sampler pours brown with a off white head. Aroma and taste is mostly chocolate.
3.4 This beer is nice and smooth with the nitro pour. It’s burnt, really burnt, but not roasted. Mostly chocolate notes. It almost tastes like you roasted chocolate. It’s interesting.
3.7 So, I picked this basically to fill out a mix-6 pack, but I ended up liking this quite a bit. Black, huge tan head. Smell like rich chocolate and some tropical notes. Very smooth and rich. Taste is like a German chocolate cake, with some cola flavors creeping in. Nice stuff.
3.0 On nitro. Pours deep dark brown with a brown fluffy head. Aroma is dark chocolate, roast and earthy. Taste is sweet with some acrid bitters on the finish. Light bodied with a very thin mouthfeel.
3.6 On nitro (labeled as "Atwater Nitro Dark Chocolate Stout"), served in a pint glass at Keystone-Clifton. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a cascading chocolate milk colored head that forms a lasting cap, eventually a thin film. Overall, it’s a straightforward chocolate stout - nice malt balance between the sweet and roasty sides, with a smooth mouthfeel. Light-medium bodied, really easy drinking. Maybe a bit of caramel and brown sugar, and a little underlying earthiness. No complaints here. Based on the huge rating variances, I guess the treatment and age can really make or break this beer. Fresh on nitro is a winning format here.
3.4 This tasted more like a porter to me. The dark chocolate gives a heavier body.
3.2 Nice aromas of burbon, vanilla, coca cola, and milk chocolate. Deep coca cola body, the cap has receded to a thin film that leaves some patchy lace. Flavor is a bit of a let down after the aroma, thin watery chocolate malts, some burbon and vanilla touches, all on the faint side.
2.1 Bottle which states ABV of 4.5% bottled on March ’15 to shaker glass. Pours deep mahogany, quick one finger head, no lacing, very slight retention. Aroma of Cocoa Pebbles. Tastes slightly sweet, cocoa bitterness. Light bodied, average carbonation, watery mouth feel. Finish tastes like artificial chocolate. This isn’t very good at all.
3.3 BOD 2/15. Pours deep dark brown. Normal head volume, outstanding retention and lacing. Rich nose of sweet dark chocolate with cocoa overtones with a hint of roast deep in the background. The aroma is very similar to hot chocolate with marshmallows. World Class. Light body with a texture thicker than water, but not by much. Normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a fair amount in the finish. Compared to the nose, the flavor profile is rather disappointing. The richness of the aroma never materializes on the palate. You get a weak flavor that you can finally identify as a weak somewhat bitter chocolate right before the finish. Sweetness never really delivers either...just subtle hints. The finish has a subtle roast component.
2.9 Thought it would be a chocolatey stout, it is more like dark cocoa water. Really just the taste of lightly bitter chocolate powder in a drinkable form. Not stouty enough for stout lovers, not sweet enough for chocolate lovers.
1.9 Another disappointment from this brewery, aroma is nice chcolate, then it turns into a mess, taste is like watered down chocolate milk, just the worst, thin beyond belief, never again
