3.5 Hazy amber with medium off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops, caramel and mild pine. Taste of citrus, caramel, pine and fruit. Semi-watery.
3.0 About the only thing about this beer worth mentioning, is that it looked good in the glass. Some hops, which is always good, but it finished with an empty flavor, if that makes sense.
2.9 12oz bottle. Pours light golden amber with nice and fluffy white head. Aroma is hops and malt with touch of citrus. Flavor is hops, pine, citurs and sweet malt. Malt profile did not match up well with hops. Balance was just not there. A shame as it looked the part out of the bottle.
2.6 Pours a light golden amber color. Aroma is pine, malt, citrus. Solid bitterness in this beer.
3.5 Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Pours bright gold with a 7-finger head. Aroma is somewhat yeasty malt over resin and fruity hops. Medium plus body with very smooth, soft carbonation. Flavor is pine and citrus. The malt is rather subdued. A whole heck of non-harsh hop. Nice bitter finish. It’s like not all that bitter, but it’s all that bitter.
2.6 Pours a clear light amber with a small white head and some lacing. Aroma is lightly sweet malt with some grassy hops. Flavor is more hoppy with pine and citrus and a light malt backbone. Medium bodied, slick texture. Finishes surprisingly long and bitter.
3.0 golden with huge head. flavor low on the malt which makes it very unbalanced, not to mention the lack of quality hop bitterness or flavor. weak effort
2.7 I agree this beer was anything but an IPA, more like a weak APA. pours a hazey cloudy orange colour. Head was nice sized, white and semi citrusy. but for the most part the flavor was weak on hops and fruit. Not a whole lot of floral character in this one.
2.4 Bottled. Pours slightly hazy golden color with a large off white head that goes forever. The aroma has a hint of spice and some citrus with pale malt. I generally like a bit more hops with my IPAs. The flavor is more grassy pale malt with light citrus and spice. Like others have said, this does not resemble an IPA as much as it does a pale. Not going to revisit this one.
1.7 Pours light gold in color with a huge, four inches of head that doesn’t seem to want to go anywhere. Smells like a light lager. No sign of hops anywhere. Maybe a Pale or a Helles, but in no way is this possibly a IPA. Taste is a bit skunky and highly carbonated. Don’t know what’s going on with this beer, but it is not good. Pretty big on the mouthfeel. That’s about the only positive thing I can say about this beer. Now I know.
2.2 12 oz. Hazy, pale orange-gold with a leaping-out-of-the bottle foam that settles to a lasting thick meringue. Aroma is spicy yeast, apples, honey and lemon. The taste is the same, with some funky bubblegum and woody-peppery hops to bitter. If this were a Saison or maybe even a Wit, I would give it higher marks and it would be in the 3.5 range, as it doesn’t taste bad at all. But since I opened this expecting a nice IPA and they labeled this an IPA, I can say without a doubt this is the worst IPA I have ever had. Maybe they bottled the wrong stuff??? Really smells and tastes like a Saison.
2.8 This is what i would call a beginier IPA or an IPA for those who don’t want to have a real IPA. It is more and American Pale Ale than a full blown IPA.
2.9 Light body. Smells better than it tastes. Strong hops with a floral twist. Just not balance to much like drinking perfume.
2.6 12oz botle-A light orangish body with a small tight white head and an aroma of butterscotch, malt, caramel, and no hops. Taste of malt, butterscotch, and finishes dry. This also has a funky taste that can’t be described. Not much of an IPA. This is not a salvation for hop heads more like a liquid version of a candy butterscotch.
2.8 Butterscotch is strong in the nose with underlying grapefruit and floral hoppiness. Clear, deep bolde body is topped by a decent and lasting fine bubbled head that leaves some nice lace. Caramel malt, citrus and floral hop flavours are rounded out by light butterscotch. Some toasty malt character is notable especially in the lingering sweet aftertaste. Medium light body with strong soft-bubbled effervescence. Bottle sampled at a tasting chez MartinT after the qualifying session for Grand Prix 2008.
2.8 bottle. Clear light orange-copper-ish color, decent white head with fair amounts of lacing. Smells of sweet toasted nuts, light floral and lemon notes. Flavor consists mostly of too-sweet malty backbone fighting with some sharp lemon-ish hoppiness. Light on the bitterness, with a sweet slick finish on the palate. Not too bad, but not too good, either.
2.9 My Bottom Line: Spicy grapefruit-like hoppiness surfs on lean honeyed cereals before a timid buttery smirk surfaces in this drinkable but slightly awkward India Pale Ale. Further Personal Perceptions: -A slice of foam dwindles into the shiny pale bronze. -A pleasant peppery, spicy bitterness lingers nicely in the finish. -The grain bill does not seem to contribute to the hops’ efforts much. -If it weren’t for that butterscotchy character, we might have had a decent IPA here. Bottles.
(Rating #1740)
2.7 Bottle. Amber pour. Large white head. Sticky lacing. Nose is surprisingly malty with spicy hops and caramel. taste is very hoppy. Lots of caramel, strong citrus and spicy hops, soft malt and orange peel. Body is medium with creamy carbonation. Ends with more spicy hops, citrus notes, caramel and a strong flavor of orange peel. Very resinous towards the end as well. Different but good.
2.8 Melon, butterscotch, sunny hop aroma. Cloudy, wit-looking beer with a fluffy white head. Label looks like it was peeled from a can of organic peas. Fizzy, kumquat, light diacetyl, lemon pith bitter. Medium light body, mish-mash aftertaste.
2.8 Pours a copper color with foamy white head with loads of lace. Aroma is very faint hop aroma and it is mostly dominated by the earthy malt aroma. This is also true for the flavor. The beer is more like an English IPA then anything else. Not bad, but not what I look for in the style. with foamy white
2.7 Smells like birra del borga Te. I think its infected? Funky barny aromas with spicy hops, smells like Brett. Pours blonde and exploded on opening. Funky flavor, definitely has some Brett infection, i’m thinking this wasn’t intentional but it does taste damn good! Its either great or horrible!
3.3 Bottle. Crystal malt aroma with very faint biscuit and a touch of floating fruit. Some floral tones with musty lemon/citrus. Yellowish side of copper body with a short soapy beige head, superb head retention. Lightly bitter, lightly tangy taste resolves into a nicer, very dry, bready aftertaste that lasts. Sweetish with some natural grapefruit in the mid-body, some chewy caramel character and more of that nice musty hop funk. Dusty, sweaty, spicy - all compliments. There’s a sort of cellared English hop quality that I really enjoy. Light-medium body. Comparable to other good, sessionable, enjoyable IPAs that ultimately don’t separate from the pack; that said, this is underrated.
2.6 light yellow with white head, the aroma is caramel and the flavor is slightly hoppy; it is a strange ipa if ipa at all.
3.1 Nice crystal clear coloured golden body with a super dense (meaning HUGE) white head. Aroma of fresh citrus hops, apples, malt, corn, apricots and even more hops. Medium-bodied; Strong hoppy flavour up front with a good citrus and piney taste mellowing out with some malt near the end. Aftertaste shows the bitter hops, with a bit of an alcoholic kick. Overall, a good IPA, not amazing - but a good offering from a local Detroit brewery! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased yesterday from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 04-May-2008.
1.8 This is not an IPA. I dont know what this is, but I doubt this is an IPA. Pours a clear darker macro yellow, but lighter than Sam Adams. Some bubbles. Weak corny sweetness in the nose. Something suggests hops... not any specific varieties mind you. Fizzy, but a bit on the syurpy side somehow. Hops come out more in the flavor, but the corny sweetness still holds true. No malt, all adjunct. Maybe some hints of alcohol. This is sweeter hopped up HighLife. Not enjoyable.
3.8 12oz bottle. Golden straw colored blonde beer, with a rich foamy head. Heavy citrus aroma. Light and refreshing as an English IPA, but with the American signature Cascade hop profile. Creamy and sweet. A well done American IPA.
1.2 12 oz gusher. I mean it poured out. When it finally stopped it was a hazy peach color and smelled alot like sulphur. I somehow swallowed the first drink but could go no further.Foamy foamy foamy. In all the beers I’ve had this has to be the worst American brewed beer I’ve had. I will re-rate if I come across another bottle. This bottle was stored in the frige from the day I got it until the day I opened it. Yuck this was one sick puppy.
3.3 Classicly done IPA. Nice citrus hoppy aroma, appearance is dark golden with a frothy head, flavour is sweet and syrupy with a smooth bitter finish and a good mouthfeel. I’m left wanting a bit bigger flavour, but overall its very solid.
2.9 Good lord, this is a gusher. Bottle from Degarth. Pours a slighly hazy peach color with a head of epic proportions. Retention is also epic. Will I ever get to drink this? Good lord, I just noticed I still have two thirds in the bottle! See you in half an hour! Well, that was really only like 25 minutes, and once all the head on the sides of the bottle condenses I’ll probably have another sip or two. Aroma is honey-ish with a floral hop profile. Smells really nice to be but that might be because I’m freaking thirsty by now. Major citrus... kind of like eating a grapefruit. The honey-like sweetness is in the taste as well. Thin mouthfeel and the aftertaste is a bit too bitter. A little bit off balance.
