What else? What else would you expect from us, a bunch of severely hop obsessed brewers, to celebrate such a glorious occasion? Anything other than a massively hopped IPA would be an affront to our rich history of loving excessive use of that beautiful flower, Humulus Lupulus.

1993-2013. 20 years of brewing excellence. To all who have played a part in creating such a vibrant and quality conscious culture, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and pint glasses!!

3.4 On tap at Ashley's. Pours light and clear with little head. Little on the nose, but smooth, with a bite and strong hoppy flavor. Good
3.2 Bottled May 2013 It’s golden with a soapy loose sheet of white foam and brilliant clarity. Smells of lots of grapefruit, resin, some orange peel, some sage, onion and a little malt. Flavor is malt, lots of onion (long steamed), resin, sweet malt, a little too sweet for my chops on the style. Medium bodied with moderate carb and a wet finish. Medium love for this beer overall, seems too sweet and the onion character isn’t one I usually go for.
3.9 In short: A fruity 10% IPA that is surprisingly smooth and easy drinking. Good beer. How: Bottle 22oz, consumed fresh one month after the beer release. The look: Clear shining rusty orange body topped by a persistent small white head leaving lots of lacings on the glass.< br/> In long: Nose is fruity hops but with a less common signature that lies in the cantaloupe and exotic fruits territory. In mouth the beer offers a clean mouthfeel with adequate carbonation. Taste starts with a solid and crispy-clean malt backbone, toasted cereals, sundried burnt hay and a sweetness that feels like dried fruits. Then comes a whole lot of fruity hops but with a signature that is really not aggressive. A round and smooth fruity bitterness of low-medium intensity. Sweetness sensation is relatively low for such a beer and there is almost no alcohol presence. Happy twentieth anniversary Avery, nothing wrong with a twenty year old American brewery being on ratebeer, but if you are an American ratebeerian and you are twenty years old or younger please have your parents sign on the line so I know it was ok for you to read this rating X________________________
4.0 Orange in color with a nice white foam. Great citrus hop aroma with just a hint of pine. Big sweet body is balanced with a piney flavor. Finish is slightly bitter.
4.0 On tap at World of Beer in Arlington. Hazy copper with a large off-white head. Aroma is of orange, lemon, caramel, dank hops. Taste is very dank, hibiscus, juicy orange, pine. Nice lasting bitterness.
4.2 22 oz. bottle. Pours an orangish golden color with a bright white head. Aroma of big hops. Lots of pine, citrus, gum ball, and grapefruit hops. Flavor is quite bitter and delicious. Lots of hop bitterness and fruity sweetness. Quite delicious. Full bodied, medium carbonation. Lots of bitter delicious hops in the finish. Wonderful DIPA.
3.8 Draft. Hard to distinguish nuances in the nose due to fat ass next to me smoking cigars. Really. Take that shit somewhere else. Piney and resiny. Finishes with a drying slight astringency. Excellent hop flavor but somewhat muddled by a nondescript malt sweetness. Gonna kick that guy with the cigar. ---Rated via intercellular device
4.4 Bottle on the couch. Fairly light yellow-orangey pour, clear. Thick bright white head, which persists quite nicely. Nose is full of citrus (blood orange?) and HOPS! Lovely full and rich flavour; mild caramel, apricot, hoppy herbs - even a little prickly on the tongue - boozy bitter finish. Well balanced. Very good.
4.3 Cloudy in appearance. Orange in color with a frothy white head. Lacing looks like snow-covered mountains. Strong hoppy aroma. There is a hint of citrus in the aroma. First thing i tasted was peaches. Smooth texture with a creamy finish. Banana in the taste. Full-bodied beer with average carbonation. This is the first beer i have ever tasted with peaches. This was an awesome beer.
4.5 This is a really awesome ipa. Really unique fruity flavor and very bitter. Smells hoppy
5.0 Real celebration for IPA lovers. The only thing I feel sorry about - I had only one bottle :)
3.4 aggressive hoppy aroma. malty flavor standing up to the hops, and a bit of a licorice note. malt sweetness and bitterness, on first take, the malt sweetness trumps the bitterness, but the hops take over in the finish.
3.7 Orange color with a creamy white head. Lots of resinous hops, oranges, caramel malt, honey, woody notes.
3.8 Pours light orange in color mostly clear with a small white head. Aroma brings pleasant soft lemon and floral notes. Body is dry with some citrus zest flavors and a zingy citrus ending. The booze is blended in there we’ll, but noticeable.
3.9 Tap at Avery. Pours a mostly clear yellow orange with very fine, white head. Aroma is hoppy, resinous, piney, floral. Flavor is hoppy, piney, strong citrus in the finish. Quite resinous, alcohol is well masked. Moderate carbonation, medium body, and crisp texture, mildly oily finish. A very good Imperial IPA.
3.9 An impressive Imperial IPA. Aroma is sweet malt with some hops and alcohol. Taste is sweet malt (dried fruit, heck, I don’t know enough to characterize it) with alcohol and the hops are complex, and both forward and not. The hops linger around for a long time, seemingly dancing around on your tongue for quite a while. An exceptionally balanced Imperial IPA.
3.7 Bottle:   Fiery golden, translucent, moderate sudsy white head, fiarly nice lacing.   Soft citrus peel, pith, and tea/tobacco leaves on the nose.   Moderate citrus and tea/tobacco leaves on the tongue.   Not real bright.   Not too bitter, mild to moderate sweetness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Feels pretty smooth, a bit heftier than most.   Muted hop and citrus notes on the finish, tea and tobacco leaves are minor.   Not a real bright example, smooth, a bit heftier than most, but not terribly bright.
4.0 Bottle. Exactly what you’d expect from Avery in the vein ... Full-bodied, richly amber and active, with a fortress of a head. The aroma is a bit subdued, but hints at what comes thru in the flavors -- warm resin and dark citric acidity, warming to the palate with the alcohol evident but not overwhelming. (#5260, 9/21/2013)
4.0 I’m very happy that Avery chose to make a double… er, sorry, “XX IPA”… for their twentieth anniversary ale. It has a very nice, soft golden orange color and a frothy, bright white head. The aroma is a full, beautiful bouquet of floral, fruity, and sweet hops and soft, but distinctive malts. It’s so alluring I want to take off my close and jump into this beer. I wish my house smelled like this. They should make air fresheners or incense sticks that smell like this. For a double IPA, and with as much hops in the nose, it’s somehow not all about the hops. It’s warm in the mouth with oily hops. Hopped with Bravo, Amarillo, Simcoe, and Cascade, then dry-hopped with more Amarillo, Simcoe, and Cascade, this beer is not lacking of hop character. It tastes like a complex, but well-balanced mix of hops, offering bitter bites here and there, but nothing intensely lasting. Honey malt blends dreamily with hops in the finish, making for a balanced experience of sweet maltiness, hop flavor, and bitterness. It feels thin in the mouth, as a serious double IPA should, but what I like about this beer is that there’s still a nice malt body to it that isn’t laden with caramelized malts and/or other residual sugars that can get in the way of the hops. Coincidentally, I made my last IPA with honey malt and 2-row barley… thanks to how impressed I am with this beer I think I may start experimenting more with honey malt IPAs.
4.1 Bottle 6 months old. Pours a crystal gold with little head. Aroma is a huge blast of caramel and sticky hop goodness...grapefruit, pine, ripe tropical fruit. Flavor is all that plus a very spicy middle. Booze is not hidden. It is sticky and silken and bracing in the end. Such a unabashedly forward hop bomb done near perfectly.
4.4 22 oz Bomber. Beer pours to an orange slightly cloudy color with a medium head. The aroma is very strong with citrus & grapefruit notes and a slight alcohol smell. The taste is light with a small bitter finish and a little alcohol on the end. Overall an excellent DIPA.
3.9 Clear gold/orange. Some head, mildly frothy, some lace. Unfortunatly this is 4 months from release- but Ill take it! Aroma is hoppy with pine resin dank, fruit, chewy sweetish malt, with toastyness.Somewhat subdued hop aroma but at the same time still resinous/dankish but fading some. Taste is good, medium malty, general hoppyness more piney that fruity strong but mellow in flavor.Caramel, good balance of sweetness malt and hops, not over the top bitter. Pretty mellow quick bitter. Very good double ipa drinks easy for one. Pretty nice reminds me of some Lagunitas stuff.
4.4 22oz bottle, bottled in May 2013. Orange color, slightly hazy. Tall tan foam. Nose of hops. Sweet sugary scent. Taste is very sweet. Cloyingly sweet, tastes of sugar. Followed by hops bitterness, flavors if citrus & pine. A bit too sweet, although it had loads of flavor. Finishes with a light grain taste, hidden under the sugar. Heavy mouthfeel, finished medium bodied. Not sure if I like it, too over-done. Needs a bit longer fermentation I think. (3820)
4.0 Pours clear copper with a medium cream colored head, very fine lasting lacing. Floral, grapefruit aroma, with pine, caramel, hay, and toast. Medium body, smooth and creamy, lightly dry. Mild to medium sweet with a medium bitter finish, lingering peasant mild bitterness. Well balanced, complex, and enjoyable.
4.2 Pours orange with yellow highlights at the edge of the glass. Fruity alcohol smell. Juicy mouthfeel with semi dry tannic finish. Strong melon and tea flavors throughout.
4.0 Gold-Orange color, big white head. Big hop aroma of citrus, flowers, slight pine, juice, a little caramel malts. Nice malty flavor balancing out the big, citrusy hops. Medium bodied. Slight booze in the finish. All in al, very nice citrusy IPA.
3.7 Medium hops upfront with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. Amber color with a long lasting head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
3.5 bottle. Golden with small head. Mild malt base with big hops and light booze. Decent IIPA, but nothing exceptional.
3.8 22oz. bottle. Aroma of fruity, piney hop and light malt sweetness, with notes of lemon, grapefruit, pine, honey and resin. Remarkably clear medium golden in color with a fine, slight, lasting off-white head and matching lace. Flavor profile is suitably hoppy throughout, with a touch of mild, honeyish, lightly sweet malt up front, growing substantially more bitter and citric, with plenty of citrus, hop florals, tropical fruit, leafy herb, spice and pine on the finish. Smoothly effervescent, slick, oily and dry on the palate, body is medium-full. Nicely done.
3.7 From a bomber. Pours hazy copper with a frothy off white head. Smells like rich sweet caramel and hops. Nutty, rich aroma. Tastes like sweet caramel and citrus. Like banana but then finishes with a dry tobacco flavor. Medium body and low carbonation.
