3.3 12oz bottle. Pale rust with no head. Light sourness, malty, some chardonnay and old tart cherry, oak. Low carbonation, moderate body, vinous, makes me think of a flanders brown aged in wine barrels, more chardonnay on the finish for sure with a nice crisp and clean ending on the palate that make you pucker slightly.
3.7 Bottle thanks to Derrick. Pours dark cherry red with off white head. Nose and taste of dark cherry, oak, chocolate, caramel and funk. Medium body. Finishes cherry oak.
4.1 2010 bottle pours dark amber with a small bubbly head. Sour cherry oak and wine aromas. Very sour tart cherry with great wine flavor’s.
3.3 12 oz bottle, bottled on 3/31/10. Pours slightly hazy reddish orange with a fizzy off white head that quickly goes to a thin film. The aroma is woody lactic pie cherries and red wine. The flavor is sweet and tart pie cherries with a nice sour twang with some wood, red wine and maybe a little oxidation and band aid in the finish. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and a bit watery. Overall, a decent sour cherry beer. I wonder if I hung on to it a bit long though.
3.6 Deep amber brown pour, thin off white head ..... aroma of white grapes, sour cherries, light brett and a fruity/berryness to it ... taste of sour cherries, little lively, little oaky, grapes, caramel malt ..... abv hidden well smooth moutthfeel ... Has light brett and a dark fruit/berry flavor as well ... Aged well mellow ... Finish is dry, lightly oaky and malty with a light grape and sour cherry to it .... Not worth the price but a solid sour ale
3.7 Bottled. Poured clear, fiery orangey-amber with a short yellowy-beige head.. great color to it. The aroma picked up sour cherries, oak, tannins, and deeper vinous notes over fruity meat and a hint of licorice.. very nice overlay of fruity Brett funk. The flavor opened with a sour cherry and oak kick, then it backed off a bit.. lots of funky, fruity Brett and biscuity malt at the core.. tart oak and vinous notes laced throughout.. finished with moderately tart cherry dust and fruity Brett plus a hit of aspartame-like artificial sweetness.. interesting and enjoyable overall, but a touch too sweet. Medium-bodied with a lot of dry, funky Brett on the palate.. the flow got caught up in a few places.. good stuff that I’d gladly drink again.
3.0 pours a semi-clear dark red with a small off-white head that goes away quickly, and no lacing. smell is of cherry, malt, spice, and brandy. taste is tart, cherry, malt, some spice, and a woodiness. ends very tart and dry.
2.8 From the bottled poured a beautiful aubern brew with thin, fizzy head. Aromas of malt and sour cherries. Flavors of sweet/tart fruitness. Medium bodied but sour. Not my style.
3.6 Bottle. Pretty auburn with fizzy tan dissipating head and no lacing. Smells like an old fashioned with some sour cherries. Tastes like an old fashioned layered over a sour- both things going on at once in parallel. Both light and medium and a little warming, but kind of refreshing and lively, too.
3.7 Pour out of 12 oz bottle, Josh with the hookup again. Clear red pour with thin white head, aroma has notes of sweet jammy cherry, some sour black cherry, bourbon, hints of vanilla, slight caramel, toffee notes. Taste is a nice mix of big sweet cherry, slight wine and grape notes, hints of oak, slight caramel, toffee, hints of oak, finishing with slight sweet berry and sweet vanilla. Very interesting for sure!
3.7 Bottle 12fl.oz. @ home. ABV: 9.59%. Clear medium red - amber orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, cherry, caramel, tart berry - cherries, grape, wood, dry wood, alcohol, tart. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate acidic with a long duration, wood, cherry, almonds, dry, light lacto. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is fizziy in the mouth, but looks flat in the glass. [20120712]
3.8 Bottle shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul! This beer appears a ruby and brown hue with an off white head. The aroma consists of cherries, funk, wild yeast, and oak. The beer is very earthy. I find it very enjoyable. The flavor is complex, but the various components of the taste profile don’t seem to co-mingle as effortlessly as some of the other great cherry sours & wilds I have tried. Perhaps the nearly 10% ABV plays a role in this way. Overall, it was a tasty beer and certainly worth trying.
2.6 Bottle form Drsilverworm, consumed alone. Smells of biscuits, flaked rye, table sugar, maraschino cherries and rubber. Tastes of Dihos with a syrupier mouthfeel and certainly sweeter grain. The cherries come off in the flavor way too artificial, sugary and altogether unripe. The end-palate is total shit: viscous, thick and bothersome, almost like drinking cough suppressant without its obvious chemical-burn harshness.
3.5 Bottle (dated March 31, 2010) to oversized snifter. Looks okay; Amber with low carbonation and virtually no head or lacing. Smells pretty good; sour and cherry. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Good, but overpriced.
3.3 26th June 2010 Hazy red brown beer. No head. Sour woody nose. Light semi crisp palate. Mildly sour wood. Lactose sweetness - almost creamy. Tingly sour minerals induce salivation before a light finish. Sour aftertaste.
3.7 12 oz. bottle gifted to me by thebaldwizard for no good reason- thanks a ton, Joe! Dated 3/31/10. Pours a hazed tea color with no head at all. Aroma of sour cherries, oak, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, and apples. Flavor of caramel, apples, oak, vanilla, tart cherries, plums, and brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with a funky, fruity, mildly tart mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Good sour, probably a little better fresh, though.
3.6 Bottle, 12oz. A finger-thick off-white head forms over a clear, dark golden body. The aroma is lightly funky, with berries, cellar and a faint note of spices. Quite tender and pleasant. The flavor has berries, cellar and a little touch of caramel, dry and tart on the palate. Some vinegarish funkyness too, leading to a finish dominated by red berries. A quite nice one indeed, but not my favorite sour beer. 110930
2.4 12oz bottle, bottled March 31, 2010. Foamy tan head, noisily fades to clear dark red color. Sharp, more pronounced carbonation. Kind of dry texture, but it’s not the most smooth or drinkable thing. Sort of bitey, acidic texture. Satisfyingly sour, no lack of that, but of the small handful of sours I’ve tried so far, this isn’t the tastiest execution (although it’s certainly interesting). Cherry juice aroma underneath the sourness. Sour-funky brett aroma.. I preferred the Brabant to this much more, it’s honestly just to acidicly sour for me.
3.9 Bottle. Deep red amber colour with a beige head. Aroma is brett, sourness, berries, yeast. Flavour is brett, sourness, cellar, vanilla, cherries, yeast. Nice beer.
3.7 Bottle pours burnt red-amber with an off-white head. Aroma shows notes of cherry, oak, earthy funk, and a slight herbal quality. Flavor shows the same juicy acidity with underlying notes of vanilla and booze. Overall body is light to moderate, lightly sweet and finishes with moderate drying acidity.
3.6 A really good sour. Fulls of aroma’s and flavors of cherry, wood, grass. A nice sour finish. Well done.
3.2 Name: Depuceleuse Date: October 05, 2010 Mode: Bottle Source: Brusin Ales, Asheville NC Appearance: cloudy dark red, wispy beige head Aroma: tart fruity aroma, touch of oak, sour cherry, light earthyness Flavor: rich malt flavor, well balanced tartness with the sweet fruityness, light earthy mustyness Aroma: 7/10; Appearance: 6/10; Flavor: 6/10; Palate: 6/10; Overall: 13/20 Rating: 3.2/5.0 Drinkability: 7/10 Score: **+ /4
3.5 Date: December 10, 2011 Mode: Bottle Source: BVery Description: Dark orangish brown pour, sour fruit and brett in aroma, taste was similar, had a white wine type finish. I am not a big sour fan, but this was solid.
4.0 Bottle. Excellent sour. Dirty orange pour, minimal head. Nose is apple and cherry. Medium palate. Great taste of mild brett, very mild/controlled tart and sour elements, cherry, some wood, and grape. Really good beer, and very approachable for a sour.
4.3 Bottle. Pours a reddish-brown with a medium beige head. Funky aroma with notes of cherries, wood, brett and a hint of vanilla. Great flavor of cherry, vanilla, brett, oak and zin. Just slightly tart from the brett. Nice woody finish.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange copper with a sour cherry apple aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a sour cherry and vanilla with a nice lingering lighr dry finish. Hides alcohol well, a very good sour ale from Avery.
3.9 Bottle:   Reddish caramel, thin spritzy off-white head, fizzles out quickly, sparce lacing.   Tart fruity nose, cherry skin, some wooden aspects too.   Tart unripened fruitiness on the tongue.   Mild sweetness, somewhat dry, with a well hidden 9.59% ABV.   Smooth mouthfeel, moderate body.   This one certainly tastes real, unlike many other examples.   Overall its a tart lightly sweetened unripened like fruity (cherry) flavor with a background of some woodiness.   Good stuff!
3.6 Draft @ Avery taproom. Red-orange, a dark but warm hue with slight haze and a nice glow. Not much to no head. Aroma is maturely funky. Sour cherry, including skins and seeds. Drinkable. I can’t believe it has as high an ABV as it does. Excellent wood character is dry, mellow, and mature. Not too acidic. Has a solid Brett + cherries character with undercurrents of funk.
3.2 They pulled this out at the tap room - maybe not retired? Light bronze. No head. Woody, with light tartness and a little bit of an orangey note. A little balsamic accent comes through in the finish.
3.8 Bottle. Pours reddish amber with an off-white head. Aroma of sour berries, funk, vinegear and yeast. Flavor is sweet and sour with some funk and malt. Medium body, average carbonation. Nice sour.
