Avery Collaboration Not Litigation

Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

3.3 Batch #8. Pours a clear copper color, with white head. Aroma of sugar and dried fruits. Taste of a Belgian, with the classic candied fruits, yeast, and hoppiness. Nice complexity. A solid Belgian ale. Thumbs up.
3.6 From a 650ml brown bottle, RBAG pt 2 2015. Golden/ornage colour with haze. Thin white head. Nose has fruit, caramel. Taste has caramel, toffee, grain, bread, orange. Light orange and yeast notes at the end. Medium bodied. Not sure which batch this was.
3.5 Bottle to taster Caramel, molasses, toffee, yeah...quite sweet aroma, malt and booze. Clear reddish amber with no head. Caramel, wheat, malt and yeast.
3.3 Copper orange pour. Aroma is bread, yeast, caramel, dark fruit. Tastes are banana, raisin bread, brown sugar, caramel, spices - clove. Background warmth.
4.0 Batch 8. Pours murky light brown, apple cider appearance. Beautiful aroma of cloves, funky yeast, Belgian candi, and a subdued nuttiness. Very appealing nose. Taste follows the nose; sweet toffee, dark fruits, banana and spices. Sweetness is neutralized by faint hops, smooth finish.
3.9 Pours brown with a medium off white head. Aroma is caramel, plum, raisin and brown sugar. Taste is sweet with a hint of bitters. Medium bodied, smooth with a slick texture that has some stickiness on the finish.
4.0 Bottle. 2007 vintage. Hazy deep amber liquid with small to medium off-white head. Aroma of raw sugar, raisins, toffee, port wine, light sweet alcohol and light oak. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of raw sugar, toffee, raisins and toast. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Really good, has aged well.
3.8 Draft. Deep cranberry-orange, the color of a well-made Manhattan. A fuzzy, dense tan head atop deposits lovely lacing. The aroma blends toffee, candied pecans, red apple, cotton candy and a bit of pear -- smells like the fair. The flavor is more Belgian than the nose, interestingly, with more green apple and pear along with a hint of banana, pepper and burnt sugar. Soft medium body, moderate fizzy carbonation. Not the best example of a Belgian brew, but decent nonetheless.
3.4 Bottle purchased at Elevated and consumed at Nagy’s new pad. Mug as drinking vessel. Copper. Off white head. Aroma is more malt and grain than I anticipated. Sugars and caramel as well. Taste has malt and caramel/toffee notes. Maybe honey too. Syrupy mouthfeel. Aftertaste of Belgian candied sugar. Reminds me of mid level Belgian ales. Good, not great.
3.2 22oz bottle. Amber color with thick white head. Malty aroma. Sweet and strong malt flavor. Heavy body.
3.9 Draft at Avery. Caramel aroma and taste. Somewhat standard quad which of course means it still tastes great.
4.3 Tap at porters pub in easton pa. Copper with white head. Subtle aroma of sweet alcohol. Sugary sweet beefy, a little sour and yeast, tangy nice finish. I would make love, not war to this beer.
4.1 On tap at Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, CA. Notes of yeast, spiced dark fruits. A classic American yeast beast.
3.4 From the tap the pour is auburn dark red and clear with a thin white head, aroma is distinctly Belgian - yeasty and deep carmel notes, gentle roasting notes a little banana, finish is heavier but overly thick. It is a solid beer, a great malty sipper.
3.5 Old rating. Murky brown. Brown sugar, dried fruit, Belgian, some oakiness. Solid all around.
3.9 Lots of bubble gum notes on the nose. The Belgian yeast is playing it’s part. The beer pour a muddy orange/brown with a head that dissapates quickly, has a slight alcohol burn which is a downer - really takes away from the flavors of this beer.
3.8 22 oz. bottle from notes. Pours a hazy, muddy brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma had caramel, brown sugar, candi sugar, yeast, some peach character, a hint of anise and dried fruits. The flavor had caramel, molasses, dried fruits, some sweetness, some peach, yeast, light spice, light hops, with some alcohol, flash of anise, medium plus body, very smooth.
4.1 First a caveat - I like a good Belgian now and again but it's far from my favorite style. Nose of light fruit and malts with a slight but unpleasant metallic tang to it. Roasted copper hue with light, pale and enduring head. Very pleasant on the palate with typical Belgian fruit, but heavier roasted malt character than is typical (though quite pleasant to me). Rich mouthfeel with moderate effervescence. Finish lingers pleasantly.
3.8 Batch #8. Pours a dark, copper color with a thin white head. Light, cherry aroma with a thick malt presence. Nice, tart berry flavor with a malty kick. Really good collaboration.
3.8 Earthy yeasty bubblegum aromas come from this clear brown brew with a bit of fod floating around. Sweet malty with a typical belgian flavor and a nice war,th in the aftertaste. Its medium bodied and leaves a nice feeling on your pallet.
4.8 Cherry and faint wooden notes. A sweet yet boozy aroma back the bet as well. Cherry and amaretto start, while whiskey finishes the palate. A great, evenly balanced brew that offers a lot as it sits. Incredibly dynamic flavor profule.
3.9 Nice brew. A little musky for my taste but a great crossover Belgian/American ale
3.7 Spiced malts, reddish hops, yeast, earth components. This dark ale isn’t bad and it’s weird too. Some mint. I really enjoyed it.
3.9 Batch 7. Pours a hazy orange-brown color with a soapy off-white head. Aroma of fruit Belgian yeast, and spice. Flavor with banana, bread, and spice with touch of alcohol. Very nice beer!
4.0 Aroma is white bread, slightly funky Belgian yeast, malts and spices. The flavor is malts, bubblegum/bananas, mild funk, spices and a sourish/warming finish.
5.0 One of the best BSDA's I have ever had. This collaboration from Avery and Russian River is extremely superb and proves they are two of the best breweries in the country.-- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10
2.6 A triple with double color. Forrest you didn't do anything wrong! He's one of the smartest in his class! Go talk to him.
3.9 Batch #8 (Vintage 2015): This pours a deep amber-walnut into the glass, with a 2-finger eggshell head that reduces to a thin cap, leaving window-wash lacing. The nose is of dark esters, alcohol, woody notes, light whiskey and citrus skins. Flavors of caramel and toffee, heavy wooden casks, extremely light diacetyl notes, dark fruits, yeasty esters, figs, raisins and dates finish with a dark fruit skin and balancing bitter, alongside a touch of warming ABV. The rich, full body tingles the palate with alcohol, while leaving an oily mouthfeel to sip, with light carbonation perfect for an aperitif or a nightcap. Really nice collaboration of 2 breweries here.
4.0 Poured out of a bomber. Nice rusty copper color, nice lasting head. Nicely complex. With beautiful smoothness. Nice heavy alcohol finish.
3.8 Bomber (2015 bottling, says Batch #8 on label... so.... somebody’s math must be wrong going by the list above). Pours a dark amber, frothy whitish head with very nice retention and lacing. Nose is Belgiany funk, bread dough, slight clove, biscuit, raisins, grass. Mouth is medium bodied, light sweetness, mild funky yeast, dried fruit (figs, dates, raisins), hints of vanilla, white pepper. Mellow finish. Very nice beer for a frigid Midwestern evening, watching the Hawks and Wild on the tube.
