Avery Ellies Brown Ale

Avery Ellies Brown Ale

This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

3.0 Bottle from Village Beer Merchant. Toasted malts, fairly sweet, nutty, brown sugar, bit of raisins, caramel. Fairly sweet finish.
3.5 One of the darker browns out there. Extra malty.....a little darker would almost be a sweet or dry stout. Appearance is dark cloudy brown. Chocolate and caramel malt flavor with some decent finishing hops. Something I would get again...good for the Fall/Winter season.
3.6 Found out of can. Thick but short lasting foam. Nice pleasant aroma. Smooth taste throughout.
3.4 Bottle from Beer Republic. Aroma is brown malt with chocolate, caramel, slightly nutty, touch of roast. Flavour is medium sweet with a mild bitterness. Body is medium. Well-rounded Brown, some nice chocolate.
4.0 (nez fructosé (red-noir), onctuo-souple, sans exagération, en finesse, comme les chiens bien éduqués, très agréable)
3.3 Clear reddish brown color with average head. Malty, nuts, chocolate, hints of coffee, hoppy notes, medium carbonation.
3.0 From backlog. 0,3 litre Can from Systembolaget Charlottenberg. Almost Black with offwhite head. Roasted malts, coffee, Chocolate, sweetness.
3.1 On tap at MSP Terminal 2 before Iceland/Ireland adventure! Dark cola brown with light hints of copper. About a half finger of tan head. Nose is nutty and malty but generally pretty faint. Taste is mostly malt forward with a slight sweetness but overall it's a pretty uninteresting effort. Definitely drinkable. Maybe some mild chocolate with nutty undertones. Not really my style but an inoffensive way to start what's sure to be a fun trip!
2.7 Nice brew, nutty and coffee flavor. Solid brew but really doesn't have a single outstanding trait.
3.3 12-ounce can pours clear light mahogany with a spritz of tan head and residual lacing. Aroma: brown sugar, raisins. Flavor: brown sugar, ripe plums, raisins, Nutella spread on Nilla Wafer cookies.. Mouthfeel: light- to medium-bodied.
3.2 Bottled. Near black, mid sized head. Bready chocolate nose with some lingonberry. Dry with medium-full body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Bready, husky caramel. Mid bitter finish.
3.4 Can, 07/04/18. Aroma is brown malts, cola, nutty, bready. Taste is light cola, nutty, bready malt, slight roast, slight coffee, hoppy notes on finish.
3.3 35.5 cl can @ Nurmo, BBE 24.05.2018. Aroma has coffee, nuts and hayish malt. Also milk chocolate. Flavour has milk chocolate, nuts, some coffee and mild tobacco tones. Dry and rich finish. Good, but I expected more.
3.2 355ml can (Alko, Kittilä). Dark brown colour. Small size, tan head, stays. Grainy, chocolate, cocoa in aroma. Chocolate, roast, cocoa, sweetish in taste. Cocoa, herbal hops and chocolate in aftertaste. Somewhat fizzy carbonation. Bit messy, but kind of nice. Solid brew.
3.1 Brownish red beer with head that disappeared completely and rather quickly, Cola looks. Aroma has roasted malts, nuts, light chocolate. Taste has roasted malts, light metallic tone, some chocolate. Lightish body and high carbonation. Well ok I guess.
3.5 Can from a Finnish supermarket! Dark brown with medium tan head. Chocolate, vanilla, nuts. Chocolate, a hint of vanilla milk. Surprisingly light body with sticky palate. A touch of bitterness at the end.
3.4 A dark brown, a head is medium and beige. Aroma has beadyness, some sour bread and rostiness. Taste has breadyness, some roastiness, quite dry. Medium bodied. Surprisingly fresh. Good beer for this style.
4.2 Aroma: malty, has nice roasted malts flavor, a bit nutty. Not too much hops detected in aroma. Appearance: pours a big head of caramel color, bubbles are big, dissipates quickly. Color is deep brown, it's a bit opaque, not quite clear in light. Flavor: Malty, chocolaty, the bitterness is subdued, there is a bit of a roast character to the beer. Hops are almost not noticeable. A hint of fruitiness. Pleasant nice taste. Palate: Moderate carbonation. Medium body with a bit of sweetness. Overall impression: Pretty good beer, nice representation of style.
3.3 12floz bottle, BOD: 08.30.2017, $1.75 unit cost, pint glass. Appears a translucent brown with a thin layer of beige head. Light roasted malt segues to a mild woody flavor - not smoky (can be thought of having notes that include a slight nuttiness, bread crust, some dirt, and a hint of caramel, but woody works for me). Very much a session worthy ale. It's not robust, but that is alright.
3.7 Brown with dark off white head - Malt with some chocolate in the aorma - Malt body with some chocolate notes and some bitterness - The dark malt and chocoalte with bitterness goes into the finish - This was good
3.6 Can in Seattle. Modest, off-gray head on a toasty dark brown, mostly clear. Crusty rye bread nose. Smooth sip, right amount of sweetness matched with woody, bready malt. Nice dark bread impression. Solid.
3.8 Malty, chocolatey. Lemon notes in finish with little hops and a little spiciness to it. I think pairs well with spicy food. Medium-fill body.
4.5 A-. Pours a brown color with khaki head. Very drinkable and somewhat nutty.
3.4 From Jun 2006 Poured from 12oz bottle a very deep brown with a smallish head of foam that dissipated quickly leaving just a very fine layer. The smell has a nice sweet and roasted malt nose with some chocolate there as well. The taste is a very tasty sweetish malt up front with just a slight roastiness and a bit of chocolate mid way through. Nice. There's also a slight grainy flavour that shows up in the finish. This is a very solid Brown Ale! Bottom line: Avery Ellie's is a brew that I can easily recommend as it's one of best of its style that I've tasted to date.
3.5 Zapach średnio intensywny, czekolada, migdały, orzechy, karmel, kawa, cukier. Kolor ciemnobrązowy, klarowne. Piana beżowa, średnio obfita, drobna, trwała, zdobi szkło. W smaku umiarkowana słodycz, średnia pełnia, słód, karmel, orzechy, czekolada, cukier, wanilia, chleb. Goryczka niska, wysycenie niskie.
4.0 I can't believe I've never rated this before. Tried for the first time in 2009 and had it numerous times since. Still one of my favorites. Light brown, some caramel and chocolate. Nice medium roastiness and a solid hop bite to finish.

3.1 Can. Brown with beige lasting head. A lot of nuts in this one. Chocolate, rasted and some grassy hops also.
3.8 Aroma sjololade, karamell, malt, gress? Utseende mørk brun med beige skum som daler sakte. Smak sjokolade, kakao, karamell, røsted malt, svisker. Lett dessertøl med god maltkarakter. Boks kjøpt på Systembolaget Storheden Luleå 33cl 5,5% BF040118 ---
3.0 Pours brown from the can with a sand colored head. Aroma is lightly nutty, roasted cereal, sour yogurt. Taste is sweet/sour. The sour takes the upper hand at the finish. Body is somewhat thin, moderate carbonation. Not the best brown ale.
