3.9 (bottle) Dark brown body with Ruby highlights, minimal vanishing head. Aroma is sugary sweet with vanilla, oak, spices (nutmeg, cinnamon), and fruit. Flavor is sweet, spiced with bourbon, and strong alcohol. Light body, soft.
3.5 Bottled 11/7/15. Drank more than two years later. Spice notes and booze on the nose. Taster is sweet and thick. Warm alcohol finish. A bit over the top.
3.1 Small Bottle from Total Wine Laguna Hills. Dark brown with little head. Spice, pumpkin and bourbon.
Csodásan fűszeres, mézeskalácsos, szegfűszeges, szerecsendiós jegyeit elegánsan, tekintélyt parancsoló módon simítják el a whiskey-től ázott fahordó zamatai, annak vaníliás, kókuszos hangulatát is megvillantva. Színben egyébként sötétebb tónusú, mint a Rumpkin nevű változat, bár megjelenésében a portertől némiképp távolabb áll, mint ahogyan azt a címkéje hirdeti. Sötét réz színe alól alkoholos gőz árad, habnak semmi helyt nem hagyva, kizárólag a kitöltés során képződik némi buborékréteg a főzet tetején. Ízjegyei tűzijáték-szerűek, vibrálóak, perzselőek, a sütőtök pités, süteménytésztás, karácsonyi fűszerkeverékes ízhatást igen markáns módon öleli körül a bourbon jótékony karaktere, az alkoholban ázott fadongás, krémesen csípős, vaníliás vonások simulékony jellege.
3.0 28.10.2017, 12 oz bottle (bottled 16.08.2016 @ 18,8% ABV) @ home: Small slightly fizzy mediumlasting head, dark amber color. Aroma is slightly sweet sour-ish mineraly, toast, caramel malts, booze, minerals, cinnamon, hay, bark, cardamom, pumpkin, almonds, grass, raisins, fruit stones, oak. Taste is slightly sweet boozy, minerals, caramel malts, booze, grass, hay, almonds, fruit stones, raisins, bark, cardamom, cinnamon, toast, oak. Medium bitterness, harsh boozy mouthfeel. Fair enough, maybe nice after 10 years...
3.8 Pours a dark orangish brown color, with a nice tan head. Aroma of pumpkin, whiskey, and malts. Taste is of a good porter, with pumpkin in the background, and wood aged whiskey at the back. A really unique brew, smooth and well balanced. Not too much pumpkin, which a huge positive for me. Thumbs way up!
3.6 8-3-7-4-14 Bottle, vintage 2016, abv 18,8, one year after bottling. Pours clear, dark mahogany, with almost no head. Aroma is bourbon barrels, aniseed and liquorice, as well as herbs and spices. Full body, with average carbonation. Flavour is dark malts, with liquorice, and bourbon.
4.5 Great Pumpkin Jesus. Pump[KY]n is a pumpkin ale on Southern steroids. This dark brown brew has oak, whiskey, pumpkin, vanilla, and nutmeg aromas. I said Rumpkin was like the bastard child of rum cake and pumpkin pie. A similar comparison can be made with Pump[KY]n. It tastes like bourbon pecan pie and pumpkin pie made a love child. You feel and taste the booze more than you do with Rumpkin, but this brew is still impressively drinkable.
3.4 Bottle. A- Pumpkin, oak, spice. A- Dark mahogany color, clear liquid, minimal head. T- Oak, booze, spice. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, full finish. O- I certainly don’t think I would call this a porter. Our bottle was 19% but didn’t feel that big. Mostly oak and booze with a touch of pumpkin and spice. Alright but I liked the Rumpkyn version much better.
4.3 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/16/2016. Pours slightly hazy dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger foamy light khaki head with solid retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and clove; with light notes of molasses, raisin, cherry, fig, date, oak char, and roast/toasted earthiness. Increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, pumpkin, spices, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and clove; with light notes of molasses, raisin, cherry, fig, date, oak char, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate roast/spice bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clove, light molasses/dark fruit, oak char, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, pumpkin, spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a smooth, moderately creamy/bready, sticky/tannic, and slightly slick/syrupy/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is fairly well hidden; a light-moderate warmth, with light barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged imperial pumpkin porter! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, pumpkin, spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the enormous ABV. Pretty much perfectly balanced between malt, spice, and bourbon barrel complexity. Great barrel presence without being too boozy, tannic, or drying. This was definitely more boozy than the Rumpkin overall, but nothing overwhelming. A highly enjoyable offering.
3.3 2014(!) vintage courtesy of nörl. Thanks for the DUSTY DICK, broheim! Pours dark brown, large head. Aroma of chocolate pumpkin and nutmeg. Chugged good. Finished sweet.
4.0 Bottle. Shared by clubgonzo. 18.8%, bottled Aug 16 2016. A clear dark auburn beer with a small, beige head. The aroma has a distinct pumpkin and spice touch, with caramel, nuts, prunes and figs, bread hints and alcohol. Less alcohol than expected though. Some wood, vanila and booze too. Chocolate blending in after a while. It’s full-bodied, warming and nicely carbonated, with a distinct bitterness in the mouth. Sweetness, caramel, nuts, wood, chocolate hints, brown sugar and bourbon in the flavor. Everlasting warming and sweet finish. A very complex beer indeed, damn tasteful too, but it’s too boozy in the mouth I think. Superb, complex and delicious aroma. 170429
4.4 Bottle, shared with Yngwie. Pours a deep clear ruby-hued body with a small off-white head, looking amazing. Aroma is caramel, deep malts, vanilla, bourbon, wood, toffee and hints of almond brittle, nuts, alcohol cardamum and cinnamon. Taste is deep malts, caramel, vanilla, bourbon, alcohol, raisins and hints of cinnamon, cardamum, brown sugar, burnt toast and prunes. Full body, medium carbonation. For such a monster ABV, this is super balanced and very complex. The alcohol is there, but well integrated. A classic big brew from Avery, tasty and heavy just as I like it. Recommendable, and will probably cellar well for ages.

3.1 Expensive 355ml bottle, 18. 8 % abv, with a golden neck bought at Vinmonopolet Hamar. A dissipating beige head to a next to clear reddish brown body. Sweet fruit cake aromas. Pumpkin, spiced dried fruits, oak and bourbon to the taste character. Lingering warm and sweet ending. Slow sipper that gets way too sweet in the long run (Shared with friends, Ottestad 05.03.2017).
3.7 Dark , brown color. Thin , tan head . Sweet aroma of pumpkin spices , chocolate and dark fruits. Sweetness in taste is surprisingly moderate. Spices and warming alcohol at the end.
3.5 Pumpkin flavor and a little bit of bourbon sweetness. Big and malty but the alcohol is surprisingly well hidden
4.3 Tasted from bottle. Pours dark brown with little to no head. Aroma is huge bourbon with molasses, maple syrup, caramel, pumpkin spice. Taste is moderately to heavily sweet with a slight alcohol burn finish. Flavors of bourbon, pumpkin, toffee, caramel, molasses, vanilla. Incredible pumpkin style beer.
4.0 Thanks Logan! That’s how you do pumpkin beer. Molasses cinnamon vanilla oak and lots of bourbon, burns as you sip; awesome stuff.
3.8 2016/12/05 - Pours a hazy amber-brown colour with a a thin, khaki head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is sweet caramel, molasses, pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices (clove, cinnamon, nutmeg), vanilla and oaky bourbon. Taste is sweet caramel, cinnamon, clove, pumpkin pie, vanilla and bourbon. Mouthfeel is medium and syrupy with light carbonation and a sweet, warming, boozy finish. Very smooth. Not as harsh as some of the other Avery barrel aged beers. Good stuff.
4.0 12oz bottle shared. Dark brown pour. Huge pumpkin aroma. Taste is pretty hot, booze, pumpkin spice. Nice finish, a little boozy but very well done.
4.1 Bottle (batch #2, 15% abv, bottled on 11/7/15 and consumed on 11/28/16). A murky brown color with a laced tan head. A delightful pumpkin and spice bourbon fueled aroma. This beer is strong, has an alcohol bite, and finishes with a nice spice.
3.7 Bottled, 2015 (’only’15%). Pours hazy deep brown with a small beige head. Aroma of bourbon, wood, toasted caramel, an acohol bite and spices. Medium bodied, oily to syrupy texture and soft carbonation. A very nice brew. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
4.1 2016 version 18.8% Clear dark brown, minimal light tan head. Fades very quickly. Big, sticky AVB legs. Nose is massive pumpkin, spice, and salted caramel. Very big nose and AVB is well hidden. Taste is pumpkin, spice, slight bourbon, sticky caramel. Big feel. Prickly carbonation that really lifts and Carey’s the beer well. Very slow sipper but excellent beer.
4.0 SIBF 2016, Seattle. Robust spice on aroma, thick boozy sip. tons of pumpkin spice. Heavy. Distilled pumpkin syrup. Bright carb actually. Relatively clean for the weight. Big but delicious.
3.4 Pours a thick, dark brown, with middling, tan head. Aroma of pumpkin spice is strong. Flavor of pumpkin spice, plus a healthy dose of booze. When does a beer stop being a beer?
3.8 Brown pour with an off white head and oily lacing. Aroma is strong pie spice, caramel, vanilla, and bourbon. Taste is strong sweet caramel, bourbon, vanilla extract and pumpkin pie with some boozy heat. Not as hot as some of the other Avery barrel beers though. Full sticky body. Dessert beer.
4.1 A 12 fl oz foiled bottle, Batch No.2, bottled on 7th November 2015. Poured into a snifter glass. It poured a clear dark brown amber colour with pretty much no khaki coloured head, but some sparse spotty lacing. Aromas of pumpkin pie, vanilla, cinnamon and a hit of boozy bourbon. Tastes sweet and spicy. Pumpkin pie, caramel, brown sugar, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and all-spice with notes of oak and bourbon booziness. Lightly syrupy, full bodied, alcohol warming with light to moderate carbonation. Overall, wow, this was nice. A Pumpkin Ale that’s perhaps approaching a Winter Warmer. Great pumpkin pie spice flavours and good use of the barrel. Its quite boozy at 15% and you do get it in the aroma and taste yet at the same time, I like it, which is rare for me. Perhaps it just works for this particular style. If more Pumpkin Ales were like this, I would definitely go for the style. Good job by Avery on this one.
