Avery The Czar Imperial Stout 10-13%

Avery The Czar Imperial Stout 10-13%

Behold the stunning crimson hues through the inky blackness. Inhale the noble Hallertau hops, spicy and floral. Savor the flavors redolent of English toffee, rich mocha, sweet molasses, candied currants and a hint of anise. We highly recommend cellaring additional bottles, as the Czar will continue to mature and become denser and more complex with age.

4.8 Malty smooth finish that excites the palate. Incredibly smooth finish for a beer with the ABV that this beer has. Must try!
3.8 Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is meaty, roasted, chocolate, taste is sweet, chocolate, liquorice, meaty.
3.6 Bottle, 650 ml, from Beergium. Shared with rest of the crew. Pours black with small light brownish head. Roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa, some fruity notes. Low carbonation. Medium bodied, overall seems a bit thin. somehow expected more, not sure if something went wrong.
3.4 Backlog ŚFP #10 Dużo czekolady, karmelu, nieco sosu sojowego i pumperniklu. W smaku nieco za duzo lako i karmelu, za mało czekolady. Imperialny porter bałtycki bardziej niż ris. Niezłe.
3.7 Chocolate, licor, toffee, café. Cuerpo maltoso y final de amargor achocolatado.
3.7 Draught at Rogue. Black color, beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, nuts, dark fruits, a bit of hops, chocolate, a bit of coffee and licorice. Bitter finish with roasted malts, nuts, chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and licorice. Excellent imperial stout.
4.0 Bottle 22oz., release 2016 with 10.6%abv.: pours black opaque with foamy brown head with good lasting laces on glass. Aroma: candy bar, toasted toffee, gint of chocolate, dark fruit esters, licorice...flavour follows aroma with intensity and in all notes mentioned above. Finish is slightly bitter from roastiness, gentle astringent, dody is full, texture soft, carbonation is moderate.
3.5 Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a glass. Clear dark brown with beige. Aroma is dark chocolate, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is dark chocolate with dry finish.
3.7 GG, Seattle. Thin off-white, lingering cream. Heavy dark brown, light on edges. Sweet malty nose. Syrupy edge to the sip, moderately sweet up front before a softer roast and burnt bitterness comes up. Dark, chewy red fruit and raisins. Light hint of smoked malts. Pepper and anise. A round stickiness to finish. Nice.
3.8 Bottle from Willow’s Market in Menlo Park, CA. Aroma is licorice, molasses, smoky, roasted malts, herbal medicine. Taste is sweet, oily, resiny, smoky, licorice, some mild bitterness. Very sticky, herbal licorice with some smoky roasted malts. Somehow this is sweet without being too cloying.
3.8 Impozáns üvegben lakozik a méltóságteljes benyomást keltő imperial stout, amely egészen addig megőrzi ebbéli tulajdonságát, amíg ki nem kerül az üvegből. Ekkor ugyanis leginkább kólaszínű testét, s a rátelepedő krémszínű habját vizsgálhatjuk, mely őszintén szólva távol áll a legkiválóbb imperial stoutok küllemétől, kicsit már a kinézete is karcsúnak tetszik. Beleszimatolva rágógumis, medvecukros, édesgyökeres, melaszos és cukrozott datolyás aromákkal szembesülhetünk, színes kavalkádját alkotja egy malátás, élesztős keveréknek. Kortyai könnyedek, talán túlságosan is azok, továbbviszik a dubbeles hangulatot, sós aszalt szilvás, medvecukros bevonatúak, belgásan, angolosan élesztősek, németesen komlózottak, fűszeresek. Önmagában tehát ízletesek, karakteresek, de az imperial stout-érzést igen haloványan közvetítik, belga dubbelként tán jobban megállják a helyüket.
4.1 Bottle (Batch 16; 10.6% ABV); pours black with a brown head; aroma of dark fruits, chocolate, toffee, and molasses with some vanilla and floral notes; taste is bittersweet with chocolate, molasses, toffee, dark fruits, and light vanilla and roast malt; finish is dry with some light bitterness; very good
3.7 100 ml. from bomber @ Gollem: USA Beerweek(end) #2. Black, tanned head, lighter head tan than expected, non-lasting. Nose is licorice, umami, molasses, soy sauce. Taste is very heavy on licorice, almost BE qualities in that aspect, umami, herbal, gravy, more licorice, red grape, sweet, BE cloying herbal roots, umami, bark,... Body is black licorice candy, herbal, bitter. Far too much black licorice for me, not what I expected. Overly big umami black licorice with BE aspects. Def. expected more.
2.6 Rich with strong bitter notes that makes this very drinkable. As it warmed up it brought out new and complex flavors and aromas. I was sad to see the bottom of the glass.
3.6 Tap at Khyber, Pennsylvania. Colour is black with very small brownish head. Aromas and flavours: Coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts and some vineous elements.
4.6 Very dark pour with tan head. Aroma does it for me. This smells like Mila Kunis looks. Dark sweet fruit and molassus. Taste follows nose, but not quite to the same standard. Still very nice.
4.0 Very good dark fruit smell...Decently sweet...Strong flavor...Light bitterness and vanilla....Alcohol burn but smooth...Light roasting on finish...Some complexity...some banana in there too! Wow...Warming and very good. At random tap for first time X2 QUITE DIFFERENT... Light smoked meat smell, but could be environment, toffee and malt sweetness, very smooth, toffee is main taste, and Light alcohol finish. Decent complexity some smokiness...much lower second time
3.9 Fine imperial stout. Pretty heavy molasses, dark fruit, chocolate, char. Big and boozy. Nothing wrong with that.
4.3 Bottled December 2015. Pours dark brown to black. Body and thickness matches the abv. Nice roasted and toffee and tobacco aroma. Taste had dates, tobacco, burned caramel taste. The aged barrels comes out late and sits on your tongue. A bit of a boozy burn, but not overwhelming.Bottle
3.4 Bottle, Nov '15 vintage - small tan foamy head, dark black color, pretty sweet malty aroma and flavor, mild roasty notes, moderate hop balance, kind of a flat finish, good overall but expected better
4.2 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 12/10/2015. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, toasted dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of coffee, raisin, fig, date, licorice, char, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, toasted dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of coffee, raisin, fig, date, licorice, char, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate roast and herbal/spicy hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slight dryness from hop/roast bitterness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy, lightly slick/silky, and slightly chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol. Overall this is an outstanding Russian imperial stout. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the ABV. This is not nearly as roasty or dense as others in the style; but still has awesome malt complexity, in combination with fruity yeast and earthy hop flavors. A highly enjoyable offering.
3.8 From a 22oz bottle that I paid $3 for.... because SE 14th Hy-Vee was magical for like one weekend. Pours the darkest of browns with a medium sized head that’s well retained, but doesn’t have much lace production. The aroma is dark fruit and some leafy hops. It’s got a big roastiness and a lot of sweet maltiness. There is some dark chocolate aroma that dominates as the beer warms and there’s a reasonable bit of alcohol on the nose too. The flavor is pleasantly bitter with a big (but not out of control) sweetness throughout. It’s got roasty malt and dark chocolate bitterness. It’s got some toffee and leafy hoppiness with a good bit of alcohol warmth.
3.6 Originally sampled on 12/8/08. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malts and slight hints of cherries. Appearance was dark black body mid sized light tan cap. Good mouthfeel, creamy and it had a little thickness. Flavors were o.k. nothing outstanding, and it was a little sweet. Overall it was a decent imp. stout.
4.0 Poured from bottle dated Nov 2012 dark chocolate color with a nice tan head and nice lacing. Aromas of dark fruit caramel chocolate and licorice. Taste is creamy currant licorice bakers chocolate caramel and a nice alcohol finish. Well done.
3.4 November 2015 batch #14 bomber. 10.1% abv. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate and licorice, maybe some Quik powdered chocolate. Flavor is dark chocolate, dark fruit (cherries, etc.), bourbon, caramel. Tasty.
4.0 Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro. How: 16 ounce bottle. Appearance: pours black with a brown, tan head. Aroma: Smell of dark fruit and some cocoa, slight booziness detectable as it warms. Taste: sweet and malty with rich dark fruits carrying the middle and some sweet breadiness at the close. Palate: medium with relatively high carbonation. Overall: dynamic malt flavors with just enough hop bitterness to give it edge.
4.5 Mine was a 10 % ABV 2015 bottle...I had one last year too and I’m so very impressed with this brew and this brewery...I could drink this stuff for breakfast!
4.0 2015 Batch No. 15 Aroma - chocolate, molasses, coffee, and licorice. Appearance - the body is black. The head is beige and around 1". The head holds tight. Taste - chocolate, coffee, molasses, vanilla, dark fruit, and some licorice. Palate - full body, sticky and slick texture, average carbonation, alcoholic and slightly astringent finish.
4.2 Almost black color. Big , tan head . Coffee, chocolate, dark fruits in aroma . Roasted malt , chocolate in taste . Mix of hoppy and roasted bitterness at the end. Well hidden alcohol.
3.5 Tap. Thick, fine, tan head on black. Dull and cloudy. Fruity nose, berries, chocolate, marmalade, cola. Rich flavor, fruit and umami, miso, citrus. Noble hops, chocolate, vanilla. Weird stuff, a bit like stanky natto.
