Avery The Maharaja Imperial India Pale Ale

Avery The Maharaja Imperial India Pale Ale

Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence.

This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

3.5 It’s not my style, so this still comes across too bitter and a bit unbalanced. But it is classic to style, but i compare it to pliny, and it’s just not quite there for me. Avery boulder
4.0 Draft at Claude Hoppers. Hazy golden amber with lacing head. Piney and citrusy. Drinks easy for an imperial. Nice.
3.6 Sweet taste upfront, with a mildly bitter finish. Very smooth for a 10.0%. Mostly pine, citrus, and sweetness in the taste. Looks like a trippel. The bitterness slowly builds up, but never comes on very strong. Somewhat simple in taste. This is a really good beer, but I wouldn't say outstanding.
3.8 12 oz. can, thanks to Zach! Pours a slightly unclear, orange color. The aroma is pine, vanilla, rye spice, black pepper, and white bread. Sweet and yeasty, with a smooth bitterness. Medium body, with a smooth, grainy palate. This is a mellow, and quite hoppy IPA.
3.1 Orange/Yellow with a dense fog and decent bumpy head and lacing. Citrus oil, sourdough, licorice, vodka alcohol notes. Canned on 3/25/19 "Blessed Day After Lynn's Birth", consumed on 5/31/19. $14.99/6 pack 12oz cans, at Total Wine And More, Boca Raton, Florida
2.7 Extreme Beer Fest, Ralston Arena, can. Poured cloudy golden, white head. Aroma of sweaty socks, grapefruit rind, pine. Taste was bitter, grapefruit, fruit rind, pine.
3.8 On tap at The Ginger Man, NYC. Pale gold, white head. Tropical fruit, grapefruit, caramel malt, pine. Very good.
3.6 Pours clear amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma of malted barley, sweet. Taste has a malt backbone with a very heavy hop influence. Palate contains light elements of tropical fruit. ABV makes itself known. Nothing
3.7 Restrained malty aroma in an amber pour. Hop forward balance with a massive preserved fruit body and sustained bitter finish. In the end, it’s too boozy for my taste (way prefer Speakeasy’s Blind Tiger).
3.7 Pours a hazy gold color with a thin white head. Aroma is citrus, resin and malt. Fairly balanced taste, medium body with a taste of citrus, resin and caramel. Lightly bitter hop finish.
3.8 Can. Caramel malt aroma with notes of dank pine resin, floral and grapefruit citrus hops. Pours golden-amber colored with a large off white head that has excellent retention and lacing. Starts with caramel malt and grapefruit hop citrus flavors. Finishes dry with floral and pine resiny hop bitterness that lingers on the palate after each sip. A more traditional IPA, for sure, and a good one.
4.4 Found out of can from store in sylva, North Carolina. Pleasant hop aroma without venturing into ridiculously strong. Hazy medium brown color. Taste is well mixed and well balanced between numerous hops. Best I've had for the style. Would certainly drink again.
3.7 Can at home. Has a slightly hazy orange colour with a light beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange peel, peaches, ammonia, pine apple, pine and grass. The flavour has more grass and pine with fruity undertones of grapefruit and pine apple. There's also some weeds. Has a soft and a little silky mouth feel, full-bodied and a heavy bitterness. A really hoppy IIPA balanced with sweet and fruity tones. Still a little too aggressive for my liking.
3.7 Citrus, hops, oranges, malt, and dank aroma. Orange, copper haze in color. Chewy thick beer. Taste is hoppy, floral, grassy, dank, resin, caramel, malts and characters of an amber. Surprisingly not much presence of alcohol. Very drinkable.
4.0 Clear orange golden colour, white head. Hoppy aroma, orange marmalade, pine resin. Sweet malty flavour, hops. Hoppy finish, orange peel, resin. Nice! (from 66cL bottle @ weekend with friends)
2.9 Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clearish orange gold with a finger of off-white foam that lingers, then dissipates. Big boozy, alcohol forward nose with orange marmalade and resinous pine aromas. A million IBUs on the palate with toasted caramel, pine, orange pith and zest, honey and booze. More of the same on the finish. Kind of sticky and syrupy as well. Nothing really comes together well in this one.
3.9 355ml bottle. Pours orange brown. Caramel, peach, orange peel, grapefruit, booze, pine, floral, bit sharp, toffee, high bitterness. Big body. Very nice.
3.3 Draft, Pint at Winking Lizard Macedonia, Ohio. Thick white head with plenty of film on glass. Hazy, gold with brownish tint. Tastes strong with extra hops in the batch. Taste some of the alcohol. Not a real smooth beer with citrus after taste. Above average for this style. Cheers!
4.0 Had a can at Oak Barrel Tavern. Nice golden color with a little scent. A bit of a heavy taste but good IPA. High alcohol level so just had 1 can, overall it was pretty good
3.5 Boks fra Vinmonopolet Tromsø - Langnes. Varm gylden. Høyt luftig skum med litt farge. Daler veldig sakte. Aroma av plommer & fersken. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken fyldig. Tørket frukt. Alkoholen skinner gjennom etter hvert. Tungdrikkelig.
3.5 12FL OZ can, 10 % abv, bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Firm off-white head to a cloudy amber coloured body. Clingy lacing. Dried fruity nose with malty sweetness. Blended taste of apricot, pine, and almond, slightly jam-like impression. Bitter dried fruity end with warmth from the alcohol. Heavy stuff, decent slow sipper. (Tromsø 24.02.2018).
3.6 Recent retry, intensely malty, then hops. Little citrus or floral. A big bold beer.
3.6 Lots of hay, grass, lemongrass, a lil funk...the abv definitely goes unnoticed...not a whole lot of citrus, which is a plus for me. Creamy mouthfeel with a bitter background. Solid for sure.
3.6 Nice mix of sour (seems like an Avery feature), bitter and sour, seems a bit spiced, a bit of bread, aftertaste does not linger obnoxiously. oily, good
3.8 Pours hazy amberish golden with stable foamy beige head. Aroma: intense hop character, supported by malt backbone. Flavor follows aroma: intense citrusy, fruity hop character, hint of oily pine, resinous notes, tangerine and orange marmelade, supported by biscuity, caramel like malt backbone. Hop bitterness is high. Body is full, almost syrupy, texture smooth, carbonation moderate to medium. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, but after few minutes knocks you down.
4.1 Pours a hazy amber coppered color with a very thin head. Very faint citrus aromas and a little pine behind. First taste feels thick and the high alcohol content is well balanced, but will surely be upfront once it warms a little. This is a great beer. Tastes of melon, peach and oh boy! Here comes the 10% alcohol content. This is a great beer.
3.9 Lätt disig orange öl med ett gulvitt skum. Doft av olika citrusfrukter, där grapefrukt framträder. Även en hel del karamell. I smaken tillkommer en kådabeska.
4.0 Intense, overripe, candied tropical fruits, mango, papaya, passion fruit, candied bitter orange, marmalade, tangerine, caramel, honey, pine, resin. Hazy, dark gold, medium, creamy, off-white head. Light bitter. More candied tropical and citrus fruits, mango, bitter orange, more pine, intense resin, alcohol, massive marmalade, soft carbonation, full bodied. Outstanding IIPA, old-fashioned, yet well-executed, rich and intense. Can from Milk & Hops Astor, Manhattan.
4.5 This is heavy hitter. Beautiful balance of caramel maple and orange zest. 10.2 abv.?? Damn you would never know... I'm gona be drunk now. Thanks- i guess. Jfc..
3.7 Can @ The Bishops Arms Marina Plaza, Helsingborg 20170922. Hoppy, fruity and caramely, sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry, bitter and fruity.
