Avery Vanilla Bean Stout - Bourbon Barrel

Avery Vanilla Bean Stout - Bourbon Barrel

A double dose of vanilla derived from both fresh Bourbon barrels and the trio of Tongan, Ugandan, and Mexican whole vanilla beans is complemented by essences of chocolate, caramel, and molasses to round out this luxuriously silky stout.

After Raspberry Sour, this is the 2nd installment of Avery’s Botanicals & Barrels series.

4.1 Zwart bier met fijne mokkakleurige schuimkraag die redelijk snel wegzakt tot fijn laagje. Vanille, koffie, bourbon, chocolade. Niet al te dik mondgevoel maar heel lekker van smaak.
3.7 Clear dark brown with a cream colored head. Aroma is vanilla, wood, smoke, coffee, molasses and cola. Taste is medium heavy sweet and medium bitter.
3.7 Bottle at HOPnick 2019 - SB web, 2019-08-01 Göteborg AR: rich vanilla, molasses, coffee AP: dark brown, wee brown lid F; rich vanilla, molasses, coffee, wee dusty
4.2 Bottle. Black color with a brown head. Cinnamon chocolate aroma. Cinnamons plum chocolate stone fruit. Heavy body.
3.9 Pounder: Tobacco, dark chocolate, molasses nose. Mahogany, thin tan head. Prune, raisin, huckleberry. Full body, easy carbonation. A really nice impy, but didn't deliver on the vanilla. Bourbon is present but not prominent.
3.7 Black with little timing beige head; ARoma is mildly chocolately some liquor Flava is rich blend of roasty malt, chocolate, and liquor; Feels thick creamy some fizz Finishes tangy roasty liquor notes
3.6 Pours black with three finger, tan head. Aroma is molasses, bourbon and vanilla. Taste is brown sugar and lactose, moving to vanilla and roast. Finish is vanilla and bourbon. Straightforward beer that does what it says it does.
3.8 Smooth and sweet taste with a strong touch of vanilla. There’s quite a lot alcohol there but you can’t really taste it.
4.0 Pours a very dark opaque brown with a respectable tan head. Aroma is dry red wine. Taste is sweet dark roasted malt, chocolate covered cherries, vanilla and molasses. Slightly bitter dry finish and alcohol warmth after the swallow. Very nice.
4.0 Opaque. Full body, very silky, dense flavor, alcoholic mouthfeel, average length, tasty finish. Sweet, crisp. Malty, vanilla, roast flavors, coffee, milk chocolate, dried fruit, prunes, raisins, figs. Delicious and very satisfying.
3.3 Not the big, bold Avery stout I was expecting, instead offering a triple dose of vanilla backed by bourbon sweetness without much stoutness backing anything up. Notes of chocolate and roast are overshadowed by the titular bean, while the stout itself seems thin and more fruity than dark, with raisin and black cherry notes more prominent than molasses, anise, or mocha. Needs body, but at least the alcohol isn't dominant. Eh.

3.8 Sampled at Ace&Kees festival. Almost black with dark beige head. Thick maple, roast, 🍁, vanilla, bourbon, milk chocolate, earthy notes, soft booze and cardboard. Quite sweet and over medium bitter. Almost full bodied.
3.7 Sampled at Ace & Kees. Black with light tan head. Big sweet deep roasted chocolate malts. Dried fruits, vanilla, some rustiness. Big sweet and bitter. Full body and soft carbonation.
3.3 Dark black body with a tan head. Strong vanilla and floral aroma. Taste a bit funky, lots of floral and vanilla notes. Drank two, gave me a wicked hang over. Not a fan.
3.5 (650ml bottle from Systembolaget) Pours black with a small fine pale tan cap and no lace. Notes of sweet though not terribly complex dark malt, ashy roast, bitter chocolate, moderate vanilla, rather harsh bourbon, wet wood, char, toast. Some alcohol heat. Slightly thin in the mouth with a bit of metallic astringency to the finish, and fairly low carbonation. Not really much to write home about, the nose is promising but the flavour is not terribly well balanced or nuanced. I also expected a chunk more vanilla character.
4.1 Bottle 650ml @ Geokkjer Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, vanilla, oak, chocolate, cocoa, alcohol and coconut. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, smooth, roasted, chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, oak and coconut. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.

3.7 Bottle @ Aarons Oldman buttcrack share. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of vanilla, sweet malts, roasted malts, chocolate and pretty ashy. Taste of roasted malts, slight ashy, coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate and Cocoa beans.
4.0 Bottle at Hopyard, january 28th 2017. Black body with a decent beige head. Aroma of vanilla, roasted malt, walnut. Taste of coffee, burned popcorn, chocolate. Light vanilla at the beginning, stronger towards the finish. Good hoppy and burned toast aftertaste with a notable vanilla presence,
3.9 22oz bottle. Sat on for two years or so. Deep vanilla depth. Really well done, big flavor without being a cheesedick pastry stout. Smooth, deep, candy barrel tones.
3.7 A good, hearty stout with plenty of coffee. Creamy, thanks to the vanilla, but didn’t notice a lot of vanilla notes.
Ok+
4.4 Svart med fingerhøyt lys brunt skum. Lukter kokos, vanilje og kaffe. Fyldig. Smaker salt lakris, vanilje, trevirke, kaffe og dadler. Noe oljete.
3.7 Bouteille 66cl via trade, thanks Arturo. Bottled 2016/04.
4.0 Bottle at Craigs. Pours black, nose is vanilla, chocolate, caramel, taste is sweet, creamy, roasted, chocolate, bitter, coffee.
