3.4 Bottle. Pours black, unfortunately not big head. In taste and aroma it is quite good and typical dry stout: watery, drinkable, coffee, chocolate, caramel.
3.5 ABV 5,0%. Pours dark brown, almost black, with pinkish beige head. Aroma is caramel, crispy bread, cocoa, coffee, some sweetness. Taste is watery, quite light. Some sourness, burned meat, smoke, dark coffee, bitter fruits. Taste comes out specially in after. Nice beer!
3.4 33 cl bottle (5.0% abv) @ Timo A. Packaged 06.05.2015. Pours dark red color with a small head. Soy on the aroma, tar, smoke and malts also, subtle dried fruits. Slight metallic notes on the flavor, dark malts, coffee notes, bread, very subtle wheat, cocoa and some wood. Slick palate, somewhat light feel. Doesn’t feel that old, good. 4324
3.1 Bottle from L’Abbaye des Saveurs, Lille - FR. Color: deep black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: roasted malt and caramel notes. Small licorice balance. Classic stout. Taste: medium body roasted malt and black bread notes. Good palate with smooth taste. Good attenuation. Aftertaste: roasted malt and coffee.
2.9 Gewohnt dunkel, Schaum ebbt in Stout-Glas schnell ab. Sehr interessant.
3.2 (Baird Shimaguni Stout) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a big shaker, ABV 5% Dark borwn colour on the body, almost black, with two full fingers of dark beige head sitting on top. Very good retention. Aroma of light roasted matls, dark chocolate. Taste of toasted malts, chocolate, faint cold coffee, some old grass too. Thin body, low carbonation. Okay beer.
3.5 Aroma: choclate, roasty, coffee, some fruity notes Taste: roasty, light bitter, coffee, choclate Decent beer, really good for an ordinary dry stout
3.6 Zearte kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt koffie, chocolade, herfstfruit. Smaakt bitterzoet, koffie, chocolade, rijp fruit. Ites bittere afdronk, tikkeltje dun.
3.8 4.5%ABV. Dry stout.  Poured out of the bottle a deep black brown with a thin tan head.  40ºSRM. The nose off the cap was of an espresso roast.  There were full-bodied smoky aromas coupled with good quality charcoal with a hint of mesquite.  Nose also has some nice ume sourness with a very dry and almost dessicated fruity character to it. There is a slight smoky umami character to the nose like kasuobushi.  Overarching all this a fruity sweetness like full ripe cherries. Mouthfeel is carbonated and light.  No syrupy cling.  There is charcoal which is reminiscent of Wakayama charcoal with smoke and bitter that co-exist in an ephemeral  balance without either asserting itself over the other.  There is a nice ume, fruity or sour roundness to the palate that allows the roasty flavors of coffee, peat and tobacco to come through very nicely. Finish is clean and abbreviated.   Overall, a very carefully crafted ale with none of the obviousness of a more continental brew.  A very congenial and enjoyable brew. Goes on Favorites List!
3.7 Bottle 0.33 l, Piwnica, Wrocław, Poland. Prawie czarne piwo o puszystej, beżowej pianie oraz słodkawym, czekoladowym aromacie. W smaku wytrawne, lekko wodniste, trochę kwaskowe z nutami czekoladowymi i kwaskowymi oraz palonym, goryczkowym finiszem.
2.6 33 cl bottle @ home. Blackish beer with a big, beige head, bit adhesive. Aroma is moccha, coffee, vanilla, tobacco, soy sauce. Soft carbonation. Taste is dark chocolat, vanilla, roasted malts, figs, soy sauce, bit watery. Aftertaste is roasted malts, soy sauce, figs. Not a fan.
3.3 black liquid with tan thick head. Aroma of smoke and caramel. Taste of burnt caramel, light sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour. Palate: light body, creamy, average carbonation, long finish.
3.6 Some roast and a little dark chocolate. Pours black with decent head. Bitter finish. Soft carbonation and creamy consistency. Tap at Churchkey.
3.0 Mild almost no aroma when stays in a glass for a while burnt candy pops out. Thick foam but it is not long lasting. Strangely boozy for 5% aftertaste disappointed me no real taste there but also not watery.
2.8 Bottle from Koht. Poured black with a thin brown head. Milky sourness in aroma, roastedness, milk chocolate. Flavor has lactose sweetness, chocolate and chalk. Not a fan of these kind of beers.
3.2 Black body, medium brownish head. Aroma of roasted malt and cocoa. Similar flavors with some smoke. Light body and carbo. Medium dry roasted malt and chocolate notes. It's good but it would benefit of a bigger body and more complexity.
3.5 Bottle at home, black beer, small head, aroma is roasted, malt, coffee, coffeefilter. Taste is the same, dry bitter taste, maybe a bit watery but nothing bad, nice one.
3.2 Tap at Bashamichi tap room. Coffee and caramel. Light to medium smooth body. Smooth finish. Want more flavor
3.5 Draft. Pours black. Aroma and taste are light chocolate and coffee. Light but nice.
3.3 Draught at the Shuzenji brewery. Black with ruby tinges. Deep chocolate aroma. Very dry and light. Easy drinking.
3.5 Thick chocolatey brown a light cloudiness. roasted malts, chocolatey, a coffee sweetness. an earthy aroma. a raisiny long finish. really nice.
3.1 Not a bad Japanese stout. Usual look and expected flavours: roasted malts and caramel. Decent.
3.6 Bottle. Pours dark brown, almost no head. Aromais sweetish, roasted malts, chocolate, berries, coffee, slight weak oranges in background. Taste is nicly bitter, malty, roasted, ash, black (rye)bread, berries, bitter black coffeeMedium body. Dry- bitter- roasted coffe bean finish. Good beer for a ABV 4,5.
3.4 Dark brown colour; light beige head with good retention and lacing. Sweet chocolaty aroma, lots of sourness which alternates between black rye bread and red berries, also leather. The roastiness is not as pronounced as I’d have expected. Tastes more roasty than the nose might indicate, sourish of those same red berries and perhaps less black bread. Faint smoky notes. Cold coffee and coffee beans. Kind of ashy dry on the palate. Carbonation very thin but rather active, body on lighter side of medium. This is nice!
3.6 330ml bottle. Very dark brown, almost black color. Mellow roast, chocolate, malty, touch of yeast, sweet notes in aroma. Roasted malts, chocolate, bit ashy, milky, straw in taste. Nice milky roast in aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Nice smooth palate. Nice one. High drinkability.
3.4 One of the new Japanese craft brews, a smoked stout with thick and creamy, light beige head and opaque black robe. Aroma of smoked herring, bitter chocolate, mocha ice cream, wet leather, bacon, charcoal, bayleaf, cold coffee, some vanilla, salmiac, cappuccino, toasted bread, candied figs, dried thyme, some vanilla, hints of soy sauce and wood glue. Taste of candied fruits without the typical sweetness; soft carbo, smooth and lean, perhaps somewhat thin body; very malty all the way through, caramelly and nutty tones, roasted bitterness (coffee!) in the end but in a very courtious, elegant kind of way, not biting or overpowering at all; somewhat metallic as well; smoky accent, clearly present in the nose, returns in an equally soft and gentle way retronasally. Vague spiciness of bayleaf and nutmeg adds some complexity, salmiac is there but also in a gentle, subdued way; finishes a bit smokey, gently hoppy and bitter, no alcohol is perceivable. Considering this country has no ’real’ beer tradition and is establishing its own identity in the craft beer world nowadays, this is far from bad; it is completely correctly brewed, no flaws or off-flavours here, but the aroma promises a bit more than the taste can deliver. Could do with a bit more personality. Still okay though, enjoyed it.
2.9 bottle brought by a collegue, shared 3 ways, poured a black colour with a mocha head, roasted malts in the notes, varamel sweetness, tobacco, harsh, espresso, bit of a weak mouthfeel (i know... 4.5 abv) dry in the finish, but a bit less of everything
3.1 Aroma of roasted malt, some chocolate, sourish coffee. Flavour is light sweet and lightly sour with a moderate to medium coffee bitter finish. A bit thinnish, both aroma and body. Still, quite drinkable.
3.1 zwart met bruine kraag. Aroma van gebrande mout, rooktoets, teer, koffie. Smaken zijn redelijk koffiebittertje, stevige koffie smaken, basis zuurtje, droog, geroosterde mouten, géén chocolade, tabel.... veel tabak... matig qua sterkte, medium body, iets dun, lage co2, droge afdronk. niet zo bijzonder eigenlijk
