Baird Wabi Sabi Japan Pale Ale

Baird Wabi Sabi Japan Pale Ale

Wabi-Sabi is a uniquely Japanese and hybrid version of the craft beer world’s two most popular styles: Pale Ale and IPA. Local Japanese wasabi and green tea are combined deftly with several varieties of herbal-character hops. The flavor is bold, yet underpinned by a ‘quiet simplicity and subdued refinement.’

Flot cloudy Medium body Tør i halsen average carbonation, Uden lang eftersmag
2.7 bottle. Looking for the green tea you find it on the clearance. soft stone fruit with lingering bitterness. unfortunate 'soapyness' quality. cloudy and medium carbed. it's ok I guess.
3.5 Tap at Jane Doe, Östersund. It's funny how a lot of beers these days have ingredients like wasabi and green tea but I just don't notice them...i do think this beer was very Japanese though in character, well balanced. Nicely floral.
3.2 Pours amber with medium white head. Aroma is malty, herbal, some grass, sweet fruits, mango. Taste is herbal, some grass, sweet tropical fruits, some caramel, some spices, green tea. Drinkable beer!
Amertume 2/5 Douceur 2/5
3.4 Fresh and fruity aroma. No surprise for the taste, as it is what it's suppose to be from the aroma. Nice wave of bitterness on the palate
3.0 33cl bottle;( Saveur Bière, #4 of Beery Christmas 2017) Appearance: Hazy pale straw body, with moderate sized white head. Aroma: grass, herbs, orange peel and some green tea. Taste: Moderate sweet and above moderate bitterness. green tea, herbs,o range peel a hint of wasabi, but if you didn't know you wouldn't pick up taking into account how subtile it is. Aftertaste is odd sweetish fruity candy like " zuurtjes" Drinkable, but overnamed and overstated. You expect something much better.
3.6 Beery Christmas #4. Pours a pale amber, very hazy and with some residue. Thin head. Aroma is soft, a tad funky, herbal, hoppy and earthy. Spicy note to it but no wasabi. Medium body, lightly carbonated. Flavour: nice malt-bitterness balace, with a nice sweet malty kick supported by a rather herbal hoppiness. Here I now feel the tea come through, wasabi maybe slightly in a more general spice-note, but not in any way pronounced. All in all a very nice pale ale though, herbal and hoppy, rather simple. Nothing special but nice and simple as advertised.
3.1 0.33 bottle from advent calendar. Cloudy deep gold with big white head. Faint aroma. Fresh malty taste, with light hoppy notes in the final and a well hidden touch of wasabi. Nice pale ale but disappointing for the wasabi promised
2.7 Flaska Beery Christmas #4. Disigt bärnstensfärgad med vitt skum. Doft av citrus och honung. Smak av barr, citrus och honung.
2.9 Falska beery christmas.
3.8 Berry Christmas #4. Bière houblonnée, sèche et résineuse. On retrouve un arrière goût épicé. Bonne Pale Ale.
3.3 Bottle #4 in Beery Xmas, pours hazy golden to light-orangey, with a little bit of sediment and a dense foamy near-white head, that retains very well. Aroma is hoppy, light fruity, malty and herbal. Taste is moderately bitter (that might relate with the green tea), with something of a citruc peel, and a more bitter dry aftertaste. OK carbo with a very light fizzy element. A decent pale ale, but a little disappointing that I don't really get the wasabi, that sounds so promising and made me curious.
3.0 04-12-2017; bottle; at home (bought at Saveur Bière, #4 of Beery Christmas 2017). The looks of the beer are average...not extremely special, but style specific. The beer has a golden amber color and is quite cloudy. On top of the beer some rough, white foam is formed with average retention. A thin drape and minimal lacing are left. The smell of the beer ain't bad. It has only a malty touch. There are some strong earthy and herbal hop aromas though, with a touch of grass, lemon grass and wasabi. Not bad. It does have some IPA/Pale Ale features, with an extra herbal note. Nice. The taste of the beer is also nice, and pretty much the same as the smell. Malts give only a small sweet touch. Bitter herbal and earthy hops go well with nice touches of lemon grass and wasabi. The wasabi is clearer in the taste than in the smell. Green tea only gives a delicate hint, almost not noticeable. Overall, the flavours are balanced. The palate of the beer is fine. Medium light body, smooth texture and medium high carbonation. The finish of the beer isn't that long. It has some tingling alcohol and tingling wasabi, and some nice herbal notes. All in all, a nice beer with an interesting herbal note, but it doesn't scream 'wasabi' as much as I'd expect. It is still noticeable though.
3.5 Bottle from Beery Christmas. Hazy orange with a medium white head. Fruity and hebal tones. Fruit, malt, hops and bitterness. medium body with a long bitteer / fruity finish.
3.2 Beery Chrismas 2017 #4. 33cl bottle at home. Appearance: hazy pale straw with medium white head. Aroma: grass, herbs and some green tea. Taste: medium sweetness and above medium bitterness. Notes of pale malts, green tea, herbs. Palate: medium bodied, watery texture and medium carbonation. Eventhough I'm glad that there's no wasabi to be found in the taste or aroma, it is quite a let down that there isn't, especially if the beer is named after it.
3.5 Slightly hazy warm golden colour, white head. Fruity aroma, hops, orange peel. Light bitter flavour, light sweet malts. Fruity finish, hops. Nice. (from 33cL bottle @ home. Thanks for sharing, Johan!!)
3.0 Bottle 33cl. Pours hazy brown/orange with a huge foamy white head. Aroma is herbs and hops. Flat carbonation. Taste is bitter, hops and spice.
3.4 Beery Christmas 2017#4 Amber cloudy color, sweet aroma with a slight hint of green tea. Flavour sweet and bitter, no bite from the wasabi Tasty
3.3 Opaque golden/amber beer with heavy yeast and with a slight off-white head. Slight/medium aroma; taste starts medium sweet and ends slightly bitter and dry. Some malt, caramel, tea, hops and citrus. No trace of that wasabi to be honest.
3.5 33cl bottle from Saveur Bière beer calendar.
3.1 Bottle from Saveur Bière.com. Hazy golden color, white head. Apa king of aroma with some pungent vegetal aroma. Some sourness, hops, not wasabiish as I expected. Meh
3.2 Hazy amber with white head. Aroma is hops, some tea, wasabi. Taste is malt, corn, hops, green tea. Pretty well carbonated, medium sweet, bitter, but too watery and thin. Drinkable but nothing special.
3.7 250ml Keg in Baird Harajuku Taproom, Tokyo (¥600): Nice stuff again from Baird & one that I enjoyed despite the fact that it was quite a bit lighter than I'd hoped for going in, it was however a fresh offering with good carbonation & some nice green tea, match & wasabi flavours that you don't find in a beer very often; it's just a shame that none of them seemed overly pronounced. It was a pleasant enough offering with some hop bitterness at times too & the balance was a nice one but I doubt it's a beer that I'd be in a rush to try a second time.
3.0 Uzupełnienie profilu Karmel, miód, zioła, lekkie przyprawy. W smaku ciasteczkowe, słodowe, czuć zioła. Finisz lekko ściągający
3.2 Cloudy golden/amber, medium head, some lacing. Herbal nose, not too distinctive. Taste it’s just different: lot of Japanese matcha ice cream, some spicy-to-the-nose flavour from the wasabi (although can’t really get the wasabi itself), some hoppy floral notes. The ale is enjoyable, medium bodied with soft carbonation, with a long bitter finish, it’s an interesting experiment, nothing more, but creative.
