Water, malt, hops and yeast. That’s it! Why? It took a simple beer to express a simple project. And it took an innovative beer to express an innovative project. This is how OPEN BALADIN was created: a beer with a “strong” personality and at the same time delicately captivating. Láhev 330 ml. Aroma je lahodně čerstvě sladové s jemným ovocně karamelovým nádechem. Pěna je jasně bílá, krémové jemná, mohutná a držící. Barva samotného piva je zlatá prohnána na pohled znatelnou silnou karbonací a silným zákalem, tato kombinace dělá opravdu nádherný efekt plujícího kouře. Chuť je výrazná, sladší, má jemný nádech karamelu a čerstvého sladu v pozadí je znát jemný nádech ovoce a kvasnic, finiš je středně hořký a držící s lehkým sladovým ocasem. V ústech pivo působí plně, má střední říz a je dobře pitelné. Toto pivo mě vskutku nadchlo a obzvláště pak svým vzhledem kde po nalití je vidět krásný efekt plujícího kouře, to celé je doplněné opravdu chutně vyhlížející pěnou. Piv už mám za sebou relativně dost, ale tohle je snad vzhledově nejhezčí a dal bych mu více než jen 5 a samozřejmě celková kvalita zpracování je též na vysoké úrovni.
Hazy amber color with a avery nice off-white head, quite frothy. Aroma is malty, bread with hints of flowers and fruits. Flavor is more complex, hints of hops, roses, fruits like peach and a balanced sweetness. Low carbonation and medium to full body with a nice fruit bitterness... :)
Bottle from Yamaya. Cloudy gold with lots of sediment, almost no head. Aroma has citrus and yeast. Yeast comes through way more than hops. Nice clean finish.
Z butelki obecny zapach trochę może kawy, słodów palonych, przypieczonego spodu ciasta. Kolor to ciemny brąz, pod światło bardzo ciemna miedź, piwo jest całkowicie klarowne. Piana od samego początku bardzo niska, szybko opada do krążka wokół ścianek szkła. Ze szkła aromat głównie melanoidynowy, do tego leciutka paloność, ale zasadniczo to piwo pachnie jak kwas chlebowy :D W smaku jest karmelowe, lekko palone, może kawowe, ale cały czas bardziej kojarzy mi się z kwasem chlebowym niż piwem. Dosyć przyjemne odczucie w ustach – dosyć pełne jak na tak niski ekstrakt; ten efekt zapewne uzyskano dzięki bardzo niskiemu odfermentowaniu i temu, że piwo jest dodatkowo dosładzane jeszcze syropem glukozowo-fruktozowym – nie zbyt mi się to podoba… Piwo jest głównie słodkie, ale na szczęście z tym nie przesadzono – jest w miarę wyraźna kontra ze strony takiej chlebowej kwaśności i goryczki, niemniej goryczka wydaje się pochodzić raczej od słodu niż od chmielu. Wysycenie bardzo niskie, co najprawdopodobniej jest skutkiem tego, że piwo próbowałem nalać z pianą, co i tak niezbyt się udało. Pijaność jest na bardzo wysokim poziomie.
Pours a hazy orange/golden color, topped with a frothy white head. Fruity aroma, some citruses and notes of caramel. Starts sweet and fruity, decent hoppy bitterness in the finish. Not bad.

Hazy yellowish orange w/ a white head. Aroma was mainly citrus with some fainter tropical fruit and caramel. Flavor was a bit more balanced with citrus and caramel malt flavors being close in proportion. Found this beer to be okay, but it wasn’t very memorable.
From tap at Open Baladin, Rome. Clear golden color with white head. Light malty and light hoppy fruity aroma. Sweet malty taste, light bitter, hoppy citrusy fruity. Medium oily body with average carbonation and biter finish.
draft. Yellow with a fluffy head. Peppery aroma, almost like pumpkin. Some hop notes. Taste is a bit sweet considering the style. Yeasty finish with medium bitterness. Not overly impressed
Cervesa dolça i aromàtica, és molt clara i amb una bona presència d’escuma, la graduació queda molt amagada.
Cerveza dulce y aromática, es muy clara y con una buena presencia de espuma, la graduación queda muy escondida.

Another lovely Baladin. An American Pale Ale with a magic Italian touch :).
Fresh and quite hoppy. Pours a hazy golden yellow with big off-white thin bubbled head. Grassy and citrus hops in the nose. Strong notes of pale and crystal malts. Very fruity too: Grapefruit and peaches. Taste follows the nose. Slightly sweet upfront. Strong notes of pale malts. Hints of caramel malts. Grapefruit and peaches. Orange zest. Grass. Light body and average carbonation. Quite drinkable and refreshing Ale.

Pour from bottle is hazy amber with big white head. Aroma is a mix of caramel with some vanilla notes. Flavour is a bit peachy on the front and mid palate with a long spicy more than bitter finish reminiscent of Belgian style beers.
Draught at Open Baladin Rome. Pours clear golden orange, white head. Sweet peachy and grapefruit aroma, a wheat impression. The flavour is sweet peachy, grapefruit, yeast, caramel. Nice but a little too sweet.
Barwa: złota / jasno bursztynowa, wyraźnie zmętniona i wysoko wysycona. Piana biała / ecru, drobno pęcherzykowa, bardzo obfita i utrzymująca się.
Aromat: słodowy (zbożowy) z akcentem chmielowym (owoce, kwiaty, zioła) oraz lekką nutą alkoholową. Początkowo nawet przyjemny, ale nie wyróżniający się specjalnie ani wyrazisty. Po chwili dało się w nim niestety wyczuć nuty miodowe czy papierowe, sugerujące utlenienie.
Smak: zdecydowanie pełny, słodko - wytrawny z zaznaczoną goryczką, następnie ponownie słodowością oraz wyraźną, alkoholową i nieco rozgrzewającą końcówką. Trochę zalegający posmak alkoholowo - chmielowy i jakby miodowy.
Kolejny Baladin z serii Open. Tym razem Gold, z założenia mający aspirować do miana American Pale Ale. Barwa jest nawet niezła (choć jak dla mnie nieco zbyt ciemna), a piana wręcz genialna. W aromacie jednak solidnej dawki chmielu nie czuć, do tego pojawiają się nuty utlenienia, choć piwo ma okres minimalnej przydatności do spożycia do listopada przyszłego roku. Podobnie jest w smaku, w którym goryczka występuje, jednak nie jest ona raczej tak wysoka, jak sugeruje producent. Do tego nuta miodowa i alkoholowa, nie są w tym przypadku zbyt przyjemne. Obawiam się, że tych kilka miesięcy (od lutego b.r.), jakie piwo spędziło w mojej szafie, nie wyszło mu na dobre.
Medium light amber color. Medium body with considerable malt backbone. Some citrus and tropical fruit notes. Well made, but not overly exciting IPA.
Aroma: malty, citrus and red apple, honey.
Appearance: hazy golden color, thin white head.
Taste: medium bitterness (citrus), citrus notes (mango, ananas), honey, white wine notes, apricot.
Palate: full body and low carbonation, bitter finish.
Overall: Quite extraordinary APA, complex taste with belgian notes.
On tap @ baladin Milano. Ambrata, belata schiuma beige chiaro poco persistente ma con buon lacing. Aroma agrumato, limone, miele, caramello, erbaceo. gusto secco, lieve tostatura, caramello, amara soprattutto nel finale. Decisamente luppolata. Poco corposa, carbonata, non molto calda.Abbastanza equilibrata. armonica.
75 cl bottle, 5.90€, 7.5%. Unclear yellow to orange color, massive white head, creamy. Strong smell, with candy fruit, american hops. Aroma is malty with yellow fruit, candy fruit, and a load of american flowery hops, spices and orange peel. Taste is well structured, with syrupy sweetness and intense hops bittering. Medium to full body, proper carbonation. Overall reminding a tripel, such as Chimay Cinq Cents mixed with an IPA. Very good, fresh, crisp.
Another of the Belgian-inspired Baladin ales, with a thick, cream white, sticky head and misty orange blonde colour. Aroma of orange peel, caramel, aniseed, honey; refreshing fruity taste with citrus peel effect, ’crispy’ mouthfeel thanks to the high carbonation which seems Duvel-inspired, finishing in a gentle, grassy hop bitterishness.
My Bottom Line:
Caramelized oranges lead to coniferous bitterness in this balanced yet sweeter-than-average Pale Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam tops the hazy amber.
-This is simple but still very well crafted and enjoyable.
-The creamy carbonation almost feels like nitrogen.
-Hop aromas and flavours could be brighter (not more intense).
-Like many of their beers, this is very Dogfish Head-like.

On tap @Baladin Milan. Pours dark amber with adhesive white head. Aroma is hoppy, fruity. Taste also hoppy and fruity with hints of caramel. Full mouthfeel, little bitter finish. Nice one.
Bottle, 0.33l at PirFest Slovenija in 2010. Cloudy amber orange color with small creamy off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of tropical fruits, mainly citrus, caramel and yeast. Taste starts with moderate sweet caramel and honey, follows by fruity and herbal acidity, spicy mouthfeel, while finish is moderate bitter. Full body, thick and smooth texture with average natural carbonation in palate. When you open Baladin Open, it doesn’t last long...
Bottle from Eataly, Florence. Murky bronze body with a fluffy with head. Lively carbonation. Great lacing. Aroma of green hops, honey and lemon. Flavour of Lockets, grass and lime. Medium body with a frothy mouthfeel. Nice fizz. A strong, hoppy APA. A bit too sweet and boozy for my liking, but very tasty nonetheless.
25 cl bottle from Eataly (€ 3,30) in Torino, June 2014. Pours orange with tons of floating bits. Head is white, jumps right out of the bottle! Aroma is something like tinned mango, apricot or pineapple; pickled apples; warmth of alcohol, hay. Strong sourness. Tastes slightly sweet, but more malty and yeasty. Not your average APA, if an APA at all. Beeradvocate’s Belgian Pale Ale sounds more like it.

Body: Medium body, low carbonation.
Flavour: Citrus, caramel, fruit, spices.
Bottle. Dark yellow/amber pour, with an off white head. Malty, a bit bready, light caramel, fruitiness, and mild hops. Not your standard pale ale, ok.
Dunkel orangegoldenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig hopfig, fruchtig herb. Geschmack hopfig bitter, exotische Früchte, fruchtig malzig.
Bottle at local Italian restaurant. Similar to reserva. Fruity and hoppy, but this time less maltiness. Quite dry. Light grapefruit, biscuity malt.
Caramellosa, leggermente fruttata, leggermente amara, prevale il gusto dei malti. Neanche il leprotto marzolino o il cappellaio matto la potrebbero definire una apa, comunque. Si fa bere, buona!
