Baladin Super Bitter

Baladin Super Bitter

18.2° 33 EBC

4.0 Pours amber-brown with thin, ephemeral dirty head over a quiet texture. On top, malt and flowers with a hint of yellow pulp fruits and spices. First sip is bread, brown sugar, caramel and cognac in a mild/medium carbonation. Then, waves of alcohol and a hint of anise pop up on splashes. Body is round, heavy and firm. A little hoppiness comes out on finish. The aftertaste is clean, sugary and satisfying.
3.5 Bottle from Steengaard, Beder. Light hazy amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit and yeasty. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish. Soft. 090521
4.2 Bottle from Bella Venezia on 13 November 2020. I had this while waiting for my takeaway pizzas - it’s the first time I have seen or drank a Baladin beer in many years and it was as good as I remember their other beers to be. Strong malty flavour with a bright vibrant orange colour.
Webdivino 14.11.20
3.8 Dal colore ambrato, schiuma chiara. Profumi fruttati e leggermente speziati. Gusto di frutta secca, mela, arancio e leggermente scorza di limone. Ottima durante i pasti.
3.0 Bottle from delicatessan shop in Brunico, Italy. I was once again dissapointed by this Baladin offering. Creamy aroma. Quite boozy but you don't feel it too much. A bitter shouldn't be made "super" and therefore there lies the problem. It wasn't bad but it was plain.
3.4 330 ml bottle. Pours amber with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and fruits. The taste is sweet with caramel, grapes and sugars, nice.
3.9 Interesting beer that add bitter hops to Belgian style. Pours clear deep amber, small fizzy head, no retention nor lacing. Caramel notes on the nose, with spices, dried fruit and honey. Tastes sweet but bitter! Sweet malts, caramel and candi sugar well contrast with bittering hops, which linger over its ripe fruit notes. Rich body, viscous, low carbonation, dry on the finish. Very good piece of beer!

3.7 The 'hop forward' version of Baladin's Super, with a New World hop treatment (Amarillo) but still intended as - basically - a Belgian tripel of sorts. Thick and frothy, irregularly but tightly and consistently membrane-lacing, egg-white, largely stable head on an equally misty, deep coppery amber-hued peach-orange blonde beer. Aroma of dry biscuit, crumbled cookies, orange candy, marmalade, peach jam, dried apricots, fried banana, yellow candi sugar, hints of Grand Marnier, yellow raisins, dry earth, baker's yeast, cloves, cheese rind, old apple cake, ginger powder, brandy. Sweetish onset, fruity and estery with hints of dried banana, apricot, apple peel and peach, sourish undertone, refined but quite lively carbonation, fluffy and soft, somewhat powdery mouthfeel; biscuity malt base, dry old cake-like, sweet with a honeyish side, lingering fruitiness with spicy notes in the end, superseded by indeed 'American' hoppiness in the classic sense of the word, dried orange peel- and marmalade-like, providing balancing citrus peel-tinged 'end bitterness' but not nearly as much as expected based on the beer's name and not even enough to counter the overall honeyish and marmalade-like sweetness. Brandy-like alcohol in the end, heating and barely avoiding annoying astringency, absorbed in part by the biscuity malt fluffiness and sweetness. Typical Belgian-inspired classic Baladin indeed - and so it was intended by this visionary and flamboyant brewer - but the name 'Super Bitter', even within the Italian craft beer scene, evokes a more actually bitter profile. This beer is hop-forward for sure, but in a sedate, marmalade-like way, displaying the Amarillo's orange character without delivering the grapefruity bitterness I was hoping for. So do not expect an 'extreme', West Coast style old school IPA here, even if the general flavour profile sure is adjacent to it: if anything, this is more like a strong U.S. style amber ale or even an American strong ale with somewhat downtuned bitterness rather than amplified bitterness as one would expect. In all, surely still a very enjoyable beer though, I like this malty-orangey profile very much, reminds me a bit of Belgium's Troubadour Magma and the like.
3.3 Amber, hazy with a medium white head. Å hop aroma with some washing foam sense. Bitter with a much better hop and some caramel ending. Liked the ending of this beer.... Bb 10.2020, bought at vinmonopolet.no nov 2019
3.7 Dark amber and hazy with deposits and a thin head. Strong, bitter smell of hops. Bittersweet, nutty taste, resembling a panettone cake. Low carbonation.
3.6 Bevuta in bottiglia. Dal nome pensavo più amara. Invece è molto equilibrata a piacevole. Bella sorpresa.
3.7 Bursztynowe lekko zamglone piwo z niezłą pianą. Aromat owocowy, słodowy plus trochę przypraw. Smak lekko wytrawny, owocowy. Przyjemne ale w belgijskim stylu.
3.8 (Bottle) Deep amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of dried apricots, orange peel, brown sugar, toffee, caramel and pink grapefruit. Fruity, hoppy taste with dried apricots, orange peel, toffee, brown sugar and a balanced herbal bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Really tasty, balanced and well made. Very nice.
3.5 Tap at Baladin Bologna, in Bologna, Italy. Pours amber with a good head of white foam, very fine. Aroma is malty, caramel but also a little spicy. Body is average, like carbonation. Taste is medium sweet with limited bitterness. Finish is average.
3.5 Bouteille 330ml. Couleur bronze trouble, mousse beige. Arôme de malt, levure, seigle?, floral. Goût de malt, levure, légère amertume. Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen.
3.4 Draft. A hazy amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and fruits, leading to a bitter finish.
3.7 hazy orange to amber colour, huge, orange-ish head, aroma of marmalade or rather jaffa cake, as well as some resiny and herbal notes; taste of orange juice, syrupy sweetness, biscuits, some yeasty notes and minimal hoppy bitterness; I'm just wondering what 'super bitter' means in this case? (and in general)...anyway, it's quite enjoyable
3.8 A: Deep amber with a small, off-white head. N: Lots of apricot. T: More of those apricots, with a long, bitter finish and moderate sweetness. P: Full O: Great beer.
Leicht bitter, sehr rund.
2.9 Bottled 0,33L. Dark amber color, near brown aspect with modest bubbly and unclear impression. Foamy white head of medium duration. Aroma is moderate caramel and resin, notes of malt, braced resin, sweet and roast caramel. Fruity and heavy sweet/bitter palate, mellow and oily texture with notes of hop, citrus, warm yeast and unbalanced alcoholic final.
3.7 Copper color, dense beige head. Caramel malty nose, fruity yeast, earthy and spicy notes. Sweet malty taste, fruity yeast, caramel, light spicy, light bitterness, hint of marzipan. Medium body, soft carbonation. 7, 4, 7, 4, 15
3.7 N: marmel aranc Biscot G: biscot miel agrum Lievissimo amaro, acid
2.4 De geur gaat naar ipa-achtig. Weinig schuim.
3.2 330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Shared with Pål. Misty apricot coloured body, steady white head leaving clingy lacing on the glass. Malt-fruity aroma, rather sweet, Blended taste of caramel malts and dried fruits. More sweet than bitter to a lingering ending. Well bodied. Just alright. (Tromsø 02.02.2019).
