Xyauyù Barrel is the result of a “wicked idea” of Teo’s and years of research. It is a top-fermented beer which has gone through macrooxidation and has been aged in oak rum barrels to give it scents of dates, caramel and a delicate wooden note. When poured, it has no head and no gas; it has a dark color with copper nuances.

Flaska från systembolaget vintage 2016. Bärnstensfärgad öl med obefintligt skum. Väldigt trevlig öl med härliga toner av dadlar, choklad, trä, russin och karamell. Torr komplex avslutning.
Rocznik 2014. Oleiste, mnóstwo fig, daktyli, ciemnych i kandyzowanych owoców. Rewelka. Bardzo słodkie, wyklejające i zostawiające łeski. Alkohol nie wyczuwalny. Pychota.
Wersja z 2014 roku. Nalewa się oleiście gęste. Słodkawy aromat, melasa, ciemne owoce, palony cukier i szlachetny alkohol. Niesamowicie gęste, pełne. Dużo się dzieje, słodkie, ale nie zaklejające. Sporo melasy, ciemnych owoców, wanilii. Bardzo dobrze ułożone. Cudo.

Turbo słodziak. Taki jak lubię. Od groma karmelu, toffi, daktyli, suszonych moreli i rodzynek. Bez wysycenie. Gładziutkie, minimalnie rozgrzewające alko, trochę beczki po rumie, trochę dębiny i drewna. Mniam!

Dark brown, zero head, looks rich and sticky. Aroma of caramel and dates, Christmas pudding. Taste is rich and warming, with complex flavours of dark fruit and lightly burnt fruit, like a fine Madeira. Luscious.
Bottle 2015. Dark brown with garnet color, no foam. Aroma: soft rum, slightly spicy, pie with dried fruits, candied fruits and rum, caramel, prunes, powerful, excellent. Sweet taste: rum, spicy, powerful, caramel, raisins, fortified wine like marsala, excellent, e.g. 10-4-10-5-18 = 4.7

Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors, 2010. Cloudy dark chestnut with minimal head. Aroma is big and complex, amaretto, Vin Santo, Caramell, dates, oak. Flavor is pretty sweet, caramel and toffee, overripe dark fruits. Full body with a smooth feel, a little hot, low carbonation. Very tasty but hard to drink too much of.
(Bottle, vintage 2011) Cloudy dark brown colour with no head. Malty, fruity, vinous nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, dates, oak wood, rum, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, dark bread and a slight touch of oxidation. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, dried fruit, raisins, dates, figs, rum, wood, marzipan, cinnamon, chocolate and a warming, vinous finish with low bitterness. Full body, sweet. Rich and tasty, a bit sweet, but exceptionally well balanced for its strength. Great beer!
Bottle. Slightly unclear amber body without any head. Strong, almost intense in aroma. Dark malt, dry fruit, caramel, oak, cellar notes, vinous, some vanilla and warming alcohol. Taste goes in the same direction, very noble, sweet, but somehow balancing with the alcohol, vinous, port wine/Madeira, pleasant oxidation, dry fruit, chocolate, wood, warming alcohol – it’s simply just amazing how much flavor it’s possible to stuff inside a bottle. Perfect body and everlasting aftertaste. Fantastic, wonderful sipper.
Flaska från SB. Mörk kastanjebrun utan någon som helst krona. Tung, kladdig kropp som lämnar rejäla gardiner efter sig. Sött, maltigt, fat, rom, russin, dadlar, likör, portvin. Svårt att dricka några mängder av. Blir kanske lite väl sött och endimensionellt. Hade gärna velat ha lite mer komplexitet och djup.

KØLF 100120. Dark brown color with no head. Aroma is wood, red wine, alcohol, vanilla. Flavor is wood, red wine, alcohol, rum, sugar, raisin, molasses, vanilla, caramel. Complex very nice beer.
Barley Wine, passata in botti di rum. Ottima birra da meditazione, da bere a piccoli sorsi. Decisamente complessa ma allo stesso tempo piacevole da bere.
Ideale come fine di una cena importante, da bere non mangiando, ma in chiusura, al posto dei soliti liquori.
Acquisto assolutamente consigliato (anche se il costo è superiore alla media). Si conserva bene dopo l'apertura

After long time I finally open this joy, 2015 vintage with alcohol grown up to 15.5%.
When opened the (corked) bottle, no hiss from carbonation, which is completely gone, and the room was filled with its beautiful aroma of caramel, toffee, whiskey, raisin and dry fruits. Winter is back!
Dark copper, no carbonation, no head. Looks like wine, oily, calm. The black sea.
Tastes sweet, but less than 2014 version, as from the nose: caramel, toffee, dry fruits, dates and raisins, whisky and wood. Oxidation worked fantastically rounding this "beer" in a wrap of molasses, reminding of a Port, or a Madeira wine.
Oily, velvety, smooth. Zero carbonation. Boozy but needed and not in a harsh way. A sipper.
Every time I open any version of Xyauyù I cry. Impossible to make better barleywines.
2014
Belated birthday bottle to me in a lovely red wooden box. It pours translucent brown, no head or lacing. Aroma of sweet malts, nutty, caramel, mild oak. Tastes quite sweet, elegant and velvety, without any sort of carbonation. Reminds of aged wines like fine Port. Flavours lingers, with caramel, ripe fruits, spices and oak notes. A sofa sipper (Birra da Divano, as its label read) that you want to be eternal. Just awesome.
[Vintage Xyauyu Solera - 2008 & 2012 Blend]
One-off blend tapped from the barrel for OEC's Festivus 2019. Pours dark brown with some tan suds. Aroma is brown sugar, toffee, cocoa, port, dates, some oak, and a little rum. Taste is sweet, rich, decadent; chocolate, toffee, dates, plum, port, rum, some caramel, some oak, and a little more dried fruit. Full body. No discernible carbonation - although it didn't really feel still. Viscous, creamy mouthfeel. Sweeter than I tend to prefer things, but undeniable. Awesome!

W smaku spora pełnia, wyraźna słodycz, przyjemna gładkość, aksamitność, sporo nut ciemnych, suszonych owoców, rumu, wyraźne nuty, beczki, drewna, wanilii, alkohol lekko piekący.

Aroma liquoroso quasi natalizio. Aspetto da amaro. Ricorda il chinato.

Bottle. Pours flat copper. Aroma is loads of dried fruits, very oxidized - loads of paper and cardboard, strong booz, caramel- lacks some toffee. Taste is very port alike - very oxizdized, paper and some wired bitterness to it, strong alcohol, loads of dried fruits raisins and figs.

Piwo oleiste i wyklejajace, dla niektórych może być za słodkie, dla mnie jest to wspaniałe piwo degustacyjne. Można się w nim zatracic
50cl bottle, with a 2012 label. Pours elegant brilliant brown, like whiskey. No foam, no stickiness in the glass. Aroma is very rich, as usual with Baladin: nuts, vanilla, figs, caramel, molasses. Body is flat, elegantly smooth, though not thick. Taste is medium-high sweet. Final is fairly long but not extreme. Very pleasant. Truly a couch beer, that's how I'm drinking it...

Poured light brown, hazelnutty color, not much head.
Sweet, malty with intense raisin notes. Port notes, madeira, raisin cake. Full bodied. Round, smooth, hides abv nicely. Exquisite.
Piwo koloru karmelowego, bez piany. W aromacie czuć mega dużo karmelu połączonego z wanilią, migdały, figi, rodzynki, nuty rumu, czekolada, brązowy cukier. W smaku piwo jest bardzo słodkie, wszystko jest idealnie wręcz zbalansowane, karmel, ciemne owoce - figi, rodzynki, nuty beczkowe - wanilia, rum, migdały, posmak rumowo karmelowy. Piwo jest niezwykle gęste, oleiste, wyklejające. Alkohol jest znakomicie ukryty. Piwo jest przegenialne, warte swojej ceny.
Sample during Blarney Wine Festival 2019 on 03/16/2019. This beer is a clear bronze-orange color with a thin off-white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Small patches of lace. Aroma of oak, dark fruit, malt and caramel. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky rum, caramel malt and dark fruit. The finish is oaky and sweet with a malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Flat, slightly cloudy dark amber color. Aroma is slightly dry mineraly, oak, minerals, fruit stones, raisins, alcohol, bark, dark sugar, grain, butterscotch, soil, toast, chocolate. Taste is sweet grainy, sugar, grass, grain, hay, cereal, caramel, raisins, minerals, alcohol, butterscotch, toast, dark sugar. Medium bitterness, sweet boozy mouthfeel. I've heard this vintage was pretty nice 2 years ago. Now it actually seems way too fresh. Kind of weird...
Versa da metà a marrone scuro con una piccola testa beige. Aroma di melassa ricca, frutta, datteri, caramello, malto, botte di rovere e torta al rum. Abbastanza dolcezza, amarezza minima.
