Ballast Point Big Eye IPA

Ballast Point Big Eye IPA

Our Big Eye IPA is a big hoppy brew, thanks to the abundance of American Columbus and Centennial varieties we use to flavor and dry hop. While the English originally added extra hops to preserve their beers for sea travel, we do it for the love of all that bold, intense flavor that makes India Pale Ale one of our favorite styles.

3.6 W aromacie mocny Mosaic, który dominuje właściwie wszystko. W smaku podobnie - nafta, trochę cytrusów do tego, piwo wytrawne, goryczka dość wysoka. Dobre, czyste w smaku i w aromacie, ale dość jednowymiarowe.
4.0 Fantastic beer no doubt. Smells great, hoppy and smooth. Tastes a bit like the sea.
3.4 Draft at Ballast Point. Hoppy, but with more malt backbone. Hints of caramel like a Vienna lager. Hops are piney and resinous, but a little overshadowed.
4.3 Love this beer, even more than their sculpin. Clear centenial hop, but moderately balanced. Pours amber gold in colour, highly floral. What you would expect from a big hop IPA
3.7 Bottle. Clear amber color with white head. Aroma - Malt, mango, passion fruit, resin, grass. Taste - Bitter, light sweetness, grapefruit, malt, candied fruit, pine.
3.6 Taster, Brewpub. Amber, thin head. Surprisingly malty for an IPA, quite sweet. Good balance, drinkable.
3.6 Caramel and tropical fruit aroma. Medium rocky off-white head, Half-clear amber color. Medium sweet and heavy bitter. Medium body, bitter aftertaste.
3.9 Ruby red amber, voluminous head and thick lacing. Caramel, burnt toast, tobacco, bitter from start to the wash. Yet another great brew from Ballast Point. $9.99/multi six pack 12oz can. Binny's, River Forest, IL
3.8 355ml can. Pours a hazy orange with a medium, frothy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, peach, orange, grapefruit and light pine needles. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, peach, grapefruit, orange peel and pine needles with a dry, bitter grass finish. Medium to full body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Nice.
3.8 Dégustée au Mondial de la Bière de Montréal 2008 (De mes notes papiers). .
3.3 Orange color, large beige head. Aromas of malt, citrus, caramel, soap and grass. Medium bitter taste with grass, bread, resin and herbs.
4.0 Very good beer. Not too piney. El Barrio serves a nice tap. Birthday growler.
3.7 Bardzo goryczkowe, bezkompromisowe, żadnych soczkowych dolewek: rasowa kalifornijska ipa. Może być.
2.5 På fat på Bishops Arms Örebro. Brunröd med smutsvitt skum. Doft av citrusfrukter. Lite väl besk smak med en del grape.
3.8 Beautiful looking orange to reddish, head went to the sides slowly. Little bit of lacing sticks to the glass. Aroma has nice caramel malt body, pines and grapefruit hops. Taste has sweet caramel malts, pines, resin and grapefruit hops with moderate bitterness. Fullish body and medium carbonation. Nice and malty IPA.
3.6 Bottle from backlog notes. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have lightly toasted malts, caramel, orange citrus, light resin, herbal notes, good, drinkable ipa.
4.0 Aroma: Sweet with citrus, pine & grass overtones, only slight grapefruit scent <> Appearance: A beautiful rust-gold color almost tending toward red <> Taste: A nice rush of hops, finishing slowly, comes on for 10 seconds afterwards with bursts of sugar, citrus, pine, grass and grapefruit; delicious! <> Palate: Slightly oily, lite acerbic bitterness, ripening towards the pine with only a little booziness <> Overall: A highly drinkable IPA on the slightly sweet, piney-side with plenty of hops and a high-enough ABV (7%) to easily make it worth the admission price. At this level, and especially for the price ($9 for six-pack bottles) there may not be a better mid-level IPA. A current go-to beer for me.
3.9 Pretty smooth IPA, bit of some fruity hops with a simple aftertaste. One of the easier IPAs to drink, but is still refreshing -
3.6 From can in front of De Bierkoning (had this on tap once, in California in 2009, pre-RB). Clear deep golden color. Off white head. Aroma’s of caramel, dark malts, bitter hops. Bitterness is more upfront retronasal. Flavor is bitter, with dark malts in the background. Medium bodied. Long firm bitter finish. Now I need to re-retry with a fresh one.
3.1 From can. Straw, grass and citric hops in the aroma and flavor. A. Soft tartness. Grassy finish.
3.9 Bottle. Orange citrus and caramel aroma. Orange/bronze colour with a frothy off-white head and lacing. Medium bitter citrus hop flavour balanced with sweet malts. Medium body with not much carbonation. Long bitter finish. Solid IPA.
3.9 12 oz can pours a clear copper/orange color with moderate white head of tiny bubbles which leaves some lacing. Aroma is full of citrus hops, pine resin and caramel. Taste is bitter with a brief appearance of sweet malts in the middle before a long dry finish. Body is medium with average carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. This is a solid, satisfying IPA I’ll try again, although it didn’t make me say WOW the way that my first Sculpin did.
3.6 355ml can. Pours a copper amber with a thin beige head. Aroma: Citrus, pine, caramel, biscuity malt, toffee notes. Nice complex aroma; both malt and hops evident on the nose. Taste: Caramel/biscuity malt flavours followed by strong citrus flavours. Very hoppy. Lingering bitterness that dominates the aftertaste. Oily slick texture. Quite hoppy/bitter at the expense of having much flavour complexity. A nice IPA.
3.7 Vom Fass direkt im San Diego Tabroom - frischer geht’s kaum. Optisch astreines Amber. In der Nase schöne Grapefruit. Setzt sich leicht süß im Trunk fort. Mittig malzig, hinten bitter. Ein IPA beim dem für jeden was dabei ist.
4.1 Can. Pours a lovely dark orange colour. To me it doesn’t have a lot of flavour from hops. Nice beer but could be better
3.2 Cloudy orange, average foam and carbonation. The aroma is slightly dank and a little malty. It’s big but well balanced. So is the flavor. Grapefruit and malt and floral hops. It isn’t a bit bad, I could have it again, but Ballast Point has better IPAs and far better beers in other styles.
3.6 W nosie średnio intensywnie, słodko, marmolada pomarańczowa, żywica, dojrzałe mango, karmel. Barwa bursztynowa, klarowne, ładna, biała, gęsta piana. W smaku rządzi żywica, później trochę karmelu i słodkich cytrusów. Goryczka wysoka, żywiczna. IPA w klasycznym wydaniu, niezłe, ale nic nie urywa. Butelka do ... a kto to wie BE 586 lub 16306.
4.2 Butelka 0,33l. Barwa złota. Piana niezbyt obfita. Mimo mętności, wyjątkowo klarowne. W zapachu zaskakująco mało aromatu. Na pierwszy plan wybija sie żywica. W smaku również żywica, ale i cytrusy. Finisz mocno goryczkowy.
3.3 Amber colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a fair amount of syrupy malts and resinous hop. Quite bitter.
3.8 Hienostunut IPA. Laatua ja rasvaisuutta. Vähän suutuntumalta toivoisin enemmän.
