2.6 Bomber from Beer Run. Clear amber, large foamy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of ginger, pale malt, mild tea and mint. The taste is strong ginger, pale crackery malt. Thin bodied. Basically ginger juice.
3.6 Bottle 35,5cl / Botella 35,5cl. @ Tanakaya Liquor Store, Tokyo, Japon. A: Hazy amber / Ambar turbio. T/S: Hops, citrusy, resinous, ginger, spicy / Lupulo, citrico, resinoso, gengibre, especiado.
3.7 Bottle from Safeway in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is pine, ginger, ginger candies. Taste is real ginger and blends well with the pine and hoppy bitterness.
3.9 Lemon and minty aroma, hazy brown with orange hint, grassy, orange, lemon, green tea flavor, malty thick palate, alcoholic kick
3.8 This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a mild hazy burnt amber color with a one finger white to off white rocky foamy head that took its time to dissipate. Nice show! Semi-thick foamy lacing appeared all around the glass. The smell had the normal qualities of Big eye (bitter citrus to piney to that light underscore of caramel malt) and then spiced up with ginger. Smells authentic. The taste was spicy - fully through the ginger and on into the hops, taking them to the same spicy level. Bitterness shows up just a bit. Dry semi-spicy aftertaste with a quick finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a decent sessionable feel to it as the ginger doesn’t hit too hard and nor does it become a palate wrecker too much. Overall, Ballast Point did everything they wanted to with this one. That’s definitely real "ginger" they added. I like it for the most part, but it does come across pretty dry.
3.3 In the glass it has a hazy orange color with a nice head. Aroma of ginger, hops and a little citrus come through. Taste has some mild bitterness up front followed with some citrus. There is also some ginger and mild spice finish it off. Medium finish.
3.6 Bottle; pours cloudy amber with an off white head; aroma of citrus, malt, pine and a hint of ginger; taste has a little bitterness with citrus, pine, and a little caramel; dry finish is slightly bitter with some lingering ginger; good IPA
3.3 July 24, 2015. On tap at Lord Hobo. Pale amber with a small white head. Aroma is candied ginger, lemon, orange, pine needles and grain. Taste is medium sweet with toffee and sugary ginger notes, slightly dry bitter finish with pine needles, citrus and sharp raw ginger notes. Medium bodied, average carbonation. A bit heavy on the ginger...
3.9 Well crafted beer. Nice looking body with an attractive head. Loads of caramel and piney hops. Ginger is a nice touch, however, it is faint and I wish it was stronger. I would also like to compare this with regular big eye to see the difference. My guess is that it wouldn’t be all that distinguishable. Also double ginger big eye sounds interesting, but they would really have to dial up the ginger to make that one unique. As this warms up the ginger becomes much more noticeable. Fairly impressed. I like it.
2.9 On tap @ Ei8ht Ball / Bellevue KY --- Hazy medium amber color, white head, bands of lace. Taste is hard malt that adds mild fizz, and what I assume is bitter ginger, before moving to a mildly hopped finish. The ginger tastes light tree bark. This is a harsh brew that leaves me feeling assaulted.
3.7 Golden pour with nice sized white head. Citrus nose with ginger on the end. Flavor is much the same with good bit of citrus mixed with minced ginger. Nice spice and a touch of heat from the ginger that blends well with the malt.
3.8 Beautiful. Clear, radiant sunset orange, frothy white head. Ginger leads but doesn’t overpower. Sweet caramel. Moderate bitterness. Spicy and herbal. Fairly dry. Would like to have this with some sushi.
4.0 A light and crisp citrus and ginger aroma. Hoppy and tangy taste. A little dry, not much citrus in taste, hidden behind the ginger. Makes me crave suishi.
3.5 Tallahassee, Fl - Beer Stop - 22 oz bomber. Sparkling medium golden pour, silky, snow white head with decent lacing. Aroma has a pleasant ginger twang to it with a hint of spearmint. Solid citrus backbone to the frontal friendly assault of ginger. which is not overbearing or distracting but is the dominant flavor. Hints of pineapples as well, which seems to kind of being a ’house’ flavor for Ballast, in a good way. Pleasantly thick mouthfeel. Solid as usually the case from Ballast Point.
3.7 Twist on the IPA. Citrusy, floral with a hint of herbal ginger. Aroma and flavor are fantastic.
3.6 Pours a hazy, copper-gold with mid-sized, tan/off-white head. Aroma of pine hops, some citrus, a hint of ginger. Flavor is crisp, with a big jab of ginger right from the get-go, followed by lots of citrus and hop bite. Ginger is also quite prevalent in the finish/aftertaste as well. This is one of the few flavor additions that really enhances the original beer. Pretty tasty.
3.3 Poured from a bottle. Clear golden color, full white head. Editing floral aroma. Medium body with a floral hops flavor and a medium finish.
3.6 Bottle with friends at st Patrick’s day party. Aromas were almost just regular Big Eye. But the flavor was kicking with ginger.
3.6 22 oz bottle This was purchased at Whole Foods in Western Henrico County The ale poured a clear amber with a big off white frothy head and lacing. This is a good looking ale with aroma of light ginger that greets you. The ale has a medium body with average carbonation. The ginger adds to overall experience with complex floral citrus flavors. The ginger plays a minor role but is present from first sip to the last.
1.3 Mad mex tap. Pale with a slight brown tint. Nice lacing. Mild dull ipa perfume. Taste is simply one big terribly on style ipa blast. What else can be said? No hint of ginger or heat. Mouth coating soapy finish, not impressed with the style even after years and years. Go figger.
3.5 The ginger aroma is not so obvious but still can taste a liitle of ginger. Either you like ginger or not, you can enjoy just like you do big eye. It’s a shame it doesn’t have much character tho
3.2 I do not get any ginger aroma or flavor. But the overall IPA base is solid.
2.3 Pours a hazy dark amber from a bottle, not much ginger in the nose but a lot of spicy ginger flavor. Kind of a meh on the whole thing, doesn’t really jive with the IPA IMHO OK?
3.9 BOD 1/6/16. Clear medium amber pour with a hint of garnet. Quite outstanding head volume, world class lacing and retention. Outstanding nose of citrus (pineapple, orange, light zest) and spruce over a biscuit base with slight ginger notes. Light body that is smooth with a hint of oiliness. Superb carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a nice prickly finish. The flavor profile is quite good and very well balanced. Intensity is moderate while complexity is average. It begins with a slightly sweet wave of pineapple and orange that flows to a moderately bitter middle. Middle bitterness has a bit of spicy peppery spruce and pine over a predominate zest influence. Sweetness maximizes as the bitterness begins to fade and mango comes forward. The finish is dry and orange zest lingers with spruce becoming more noticeable as the finish trails off. A light astringent alcohol note appears at the very end. Ginger is present but never really becomes pronounced until after the middle. Its strongest showing is just before the finish and through it.
3.9 Piney, beady, with a hint of ginger that makes it spicy. Very nicely balanced.
2.7 Sample on tap @ Vintage Estates. Pours a medium amber color with a white head. Not much aroma at all. Slightly bitter and I can’t taste any ginger. Pretty plain and unremarkable.
3.7 Pours very nice copper color. Foamy head. Nice hoppy flavor. Ginger hint is nice touch.
3.8 22oz bottle thanks to Matt. pours out a copper topped with a small head. nose is a nice sweet ginger candy a nice hop mix and some spice. Taste is nice candy ginger great hop combo and the spice.
3.6 Pours clear tangerine with a thick, rather fine-bubbled and persistent buff head. Aroma delivers firm hoppy and ginger notes riding an undertone of fresh malt. Flavor presents woody hop, ginger and fresh malt notes, all combining very nicely for a bold and drinkable ale. Body is so-so, but fizz is strong. Get your big eye (but please call a taxi if it gets too big, hee hee.)
3.4 3/9/16. On tap at Craft on Draft. Golden orange pour with a small khaki head. Light hoppy aroma, citrus, very, very mild ginger, some dankness and pine. Hoppy flavor, citrus, pine, dank, very mild ginger burn sneaks up on you. Not bad.
