Ballast Point Dorado Double IPA - Watermelon

Ballast Point Dorado Double IPA - Watermelon

Our Watermelon Dorado Double IPA is not one to back down from big flavors. Mash, kettle, and dry hopping blend to create a huge hop profile that is balanced with a blast of watermelon. The result is a refreshing brew that is all summer and no seeds.

3.1 12 oz bottle. Bottled on 03/26/18. (Ballast Point Home Brew Mart) San Diego, CA. Clear deep golden color with a small white head. Watermelon, candies, cotton candy, sugar and sweetness in the aroma. The flavor is strong sweet hoppiness, strong bitterness, sugary sweetness, watermelon, candies and caramel malty sweetness. Really sweet. Really strong. Not my cup of tea.
4.1 Aroma: Sweet and hoppy Appearance: Gold, with short light head. Taste: Sweet watermelon up front, then hits strong with the hops Palate: Medium carbonation, bitter & dry hoppy finish. This is one of my favorites. Love the sweetness and how you can taste the watermelon. The hop profile isn't my favorite and the finish is a bit too dry for me but these are minor complaints.
3.3 On tap at Harry’s Jyväskylä. Pours golden color. Aroma of heavy maltiness, pine, caramel, resin, citrus, fruitiness, watermelon (I guess). Medium to heavy body, strong taste, heavily hopped. Dry hoppy aftertaste.
3.3 bottle - Lightly hazy orange pour. Hoppy aroma includes citrus, resin, and apparently watermelon. That's different. The flavor is big on the hops as expected. The watermelon's in there along with resin and a substantial malt backbone. It's fairly good but this is an odd one
3.1 Orange, clear beer with a one finger high, white head. Nice nose of watermelon, orange, pine and caramel malt. The taste isn't really mine though... Watermelon, booze, hops and pine. Medium bittersweet mouthfeel. Nope, the nose is ok but it ends there..
3.3 Finally got around to trying this. 355ml bottle at House of Belgium, Xiamen. Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma of watermelon over pine and citrus. Sweet taste, a little odd. Some bitterness, a bit oily.
2.5 bra doft. spritig i svalget. nja.
2.9 From tap. Clear golden orange color with white head. Malty and light hoppy aroma, sweet fruity, artificial. Sweet and light bitter fruity taste like aroma. Light to medium oily body with soft carbonation.
2.9 Tap at Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Color is slightly cloudy orange with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Fruits, watermelon, hops and malts. Surprisingly watery. Weird. Watermelon in beer is not my thing.
2.6 (Keg at Pikkulintu, 20171007) The beer poured deep amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, watermelon and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, watermelon, fruitiness, booze, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, boozy, fruity and bitter. A messed up strong and hoppy brew.
3.1 Draught @ Pikkulintu. Poured golden color with a thick white head. Water melon all over. Candy feel to it. Sweet, water melon flavor, sweetness, some booze.
3.3 Tap@pikkis. Deep golden colour. Fruity, floral nose. Rich sweet ripe fruits, overripe apricots, the likes. Medfull bodied, full bodied. Quite sweet, goodnnbitters but still sorta thick feeling. Weirdness in flavour, probly the watermelon -- bb/a
3.2 Tap @ Freedom Brewfest: Sweet hoppy with a tropical fruit aroma. Watermelon Jolly Rancher flavor. Interesting idea . . . .
3.7 KØLF 020617. Deep golden color with an off-white head. Aroma is malt, water melon, yeast, hay, hop. Flavor is alcohol, water melon, yeast, hay, hop, malt. Interesting weird beer.
2.3 From tap. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is dense watermelon. Somewhat artificial. Reminds me of starburst, terrible thing the kids eat and I get one by mistake or something. Dry, fruity and dense watermelon finish.
4.5 On tap. Pours a copper color with moderate head. The aroma is full of hops with a big watermelon smell. Taste is the watermelon first and the typical IPA on another layer. I really like this taste! Very enjoyable combination of flavor.
2.7 12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear amber orange color with a small white head. A huge sweet watermelon nose. Hmm. Really a lot like candy. Initially sweet watermelon candy, a really big hot alcohol burst in the finish that is unpleasant. It all ends up like a cheap alco-pop in a bad way for me. How the heck did they get this watermelon flavor in here? I can't imagine that this is only natural watermelon. On the border of being undrinkable for me.
3.6 Aroma is lightly roasted malts, honey, earthiness and light watermelon. Taste is a light sweetness overce by a tartiness and earthiness.
3.4 12 oz bottle pours amber with a white head. Aroma of grapefruit, watermelon, and malt. Taste is watermelon, citrus and caramel
3.9 Can in to a glass. Slight haze deep gold copper. Full dense sticky light beige head and thick sticky lacing. Woody dank hop aromas, some caramelized malts but pretty light. Full flavors with a little of the melon rind notes, and rich palate. resinous sticky hop flavors and a long smooth lingering IBU bite. A big beer but would not have guessed as high as 10%
4.0 I am not an IPA per say, more of an porter, stout or Imperial of the two but, I like the taste of this beer. On draft, there is more of a watermelon taste from start to end with a hint of hoppy notes, to where as the can or bottle has more of a hoppy bite then a watermelon taste! Really like this as an alternative to my #1 beer which is Victory at Sea!
3.4 Odd brew. Tons of watermelon and low bitterness make for a refreshing summer beer but the 10% abv obviously makes it a bad choice for a long afternoon relaxing by the pool. Total fail as a DIPA, Tasty but impractical.
2.3 Bitterness, watermelon and perfume scent. Watermelon, bitterness and slightly fruity taste. Very bitter aftertaste that fills the mouth for a long time. Difficult to drink and very bitter. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.5 Keg at the Taproom, Bangkok. Poured a hazy medium amber with a long-lasting thin white head and lots of clingy lace. The aroma is malt, melon, light hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a crisp fresh, overpowering melon, woody hop, alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. One wonders how much melon they threw at this as the melon even overpowered the alcohol!
3.6 An orange beer, a head is medium and blond. Aroma has tropical mangos, pine and watermelon, also fructose and pine. Taste has caramel, watermelon, some tropical notes and pine, quite nice bitterness. Medium+ bodied. The watermelon is intresting, but could be better without it, can’t say for sure, because I haven’t taste the normal Dorado.
3.6 355ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long. Looks: Clear amberHalf finger head with soapy off-white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Excellent sticky lacing with fizzy small carbonation. Aroma: Very fragrant full Ale malt, with strong watermelon, passion fruits, grapefruits, citrus, candied fruits, strong caramel, floral, molasses, light spices, pine, light resins, biscuits and grass. Taste: Medium sweet full Ale malt, with strong watermelon flesh and candy, strong grapefruits, caramel, floral, strong molasses, strong pine, strong resins, spices, strong herbs, dry biscuits, strong lime, very strong bitter hops and sharp grass. Body: Mid to full body; Thick, slick and oozy palate. Mouth Feel: Full Ale maltyness in a very slick background, slightly thinned but smooth. Very sharp grapefruit hops up front with strong but quite natural watermelon throughout. Caramel, floral with pleasantly strong sweetness offset by strongly herbal bitterness. Piney and quite oozy with strong lime to round. Nice! Alcohol: the 10% booze is present but doesn’t scream, well integrated with malts and sharp hops. Excellent! Hoppiness: Passion fruits, grapefruits, citrus, candied fruits, floral, light spices, pine, light resins and grass in nose. Strong grapefruits, floral, strong pine, resins, spices, strong herbs, strong lime and sharp grass in taste; Bitterness is very strong for a lasting, very high astringent sweet-bitter herbal malty finish. After taste: Quite dry. Limey, melony and very strong bitter to mouth. Comments: The watermelon element is strong through with aroma and taste, yet it didn’t hamper the DIPA base and somehow left it up with its nice fruityness. Malt is rich, hops are strong, very bitter and herbal and the resins isn’t domineering. Very drinkable!
3.3 35.5cl bottle. clear dark golden color. medium white head. malts and more malts, hops, a hint of watermelon, citrus. med to high bitterness. medium carbonation.
4.2 Taste: Big watermelon, not sweet notes, Crisp, refreshing, citrus hops. Nose is semi sweet, floral. Amber/orange color, unfiltered, not much head in taster glass. medium body. Not bitter, melon flavors come out, can not taste that it is 10.0 ABV and 90 IBUs
3.5 From bottle, Poured deep golden with a white head. Nose of light malts, sweet fruits, can’t get watermelon like expected, caramel and grass notes. Note as good as their other ipas
