Ballast Point Fathom IPA

Ballast Point Fathom IPA

Fathom IPA highlights our favorite characteristics of the west-coast IPA style. This crisp and clean brew features a touch of malt on the surface with an ocean of zesty orange and piney hops below. The result is a refreshing, easy drinking IPA with just the right amount of depth.

NOTE: this is now year round (as of late 2017). The IPL is now a rotating beer. Please check which one you have before rating.

3.6 Pours deep gold with a small white top. Aroma is orange and grapefruit with some light grain. Taste is piney, grapefruit hops and moderate bitterness.
3.5 Pale orange. Grapefruit aroma and flavour. A bit of pine in the back along with a soft sweetness. There’s a nice fruitiness and a good balance of malt and hops. Pretty tasty.
3.4 12oz bottle picked up at Safeway in CA. Pours clear golden with a medium sized off-white head, light lacing. Grapefruit, herbal, mild dusty, citrus. Decent
3.5 Aroma: malt and tender grassy hops Taste: solid malt, moderately hopped with floral hops. Some honey notes on the background
3.4 very hoppy. not bitter citrus a tall very refreshing and way way too easy to drink. low on carbonation and no aftertaste.
4.5 Purchased in a rather expensive variety 12-pack from a Walmart. Average white head on top of a clear golden body. I smell the Hops, but it smells like the Pacific Ocean. It has good flavors and none of that bad IPA aftertaste, probably the best beer I've had from this Brewery
3.6 A golden ipa with a thin off white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with loads of c hops, resinous and piney, light grapefruit notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with loads of citrusy floral hops, grapefruit pulp, light tropical fruits, very nice and sharp. Can at IAFP meeting 2019
3.4 Got confident of a winner only to be reduced to another standard IPA, like when you see someone waterski, then try to waterski, and fail. Yeah I could that... I can’t do that.
4.0 Sabor suave, con un muy buen aroma, la serví en una copa para poder degustar todos los aromas.
4.0 Decent IPA. Nice hops but nothing too distinctive. Good for casual drink
2.8 Bottle (thanks suurjuust). Clear dark amber color. Medium size, off-white head, stays. Sweet, malty, caramel, boiled carrots in aroma and in taste. Flat and macroish.
3.4 Canned from 7-11. Crisp bright hoppiness up front. Some dry grapefruit with a little tiny bit of sweetness lurking in the background. Pretty well balanced. Enjoyable brew.
3.6 Rated in vacation at four winds lakeside resort bloomington indiana. Light golden boozy head decent retention. Atomas big citrus, grapefruit, pine. Flavors citrus, light pine, grapefruit. Light to medium sweet. Light bitter finish. Average ipa.
4.1 From a bottle to a glass. Pours a slightly hazy amber/copper color with a huge frothy creamy head. Aroma is citrusy fruits, tangerines, oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, earthy hops, guava. bready caramel malts. Taste follows the aroma well with a medium mouthfeel. Very balanced and tasty Ipa!
3.4 Can from the brewery - golden color, white head. very fruity, a true westcoast IPA. pleasant bitterness, crisp. nice!
3.3 Just ok if I'm honest. We are now spoilt for choice when it comes to good beer. Around a 3 out of 5 seems about right. Hops impart bitterness, but not much aroma or flavour.
4.0 Mi primera cata de cervezas en "more than beer" el 26-4-2019. 1a IPA.
3.5 Pours dark amber with a thick white head. Aroma of resinous hops. Taste is oaky and malty. Palate has oak, earthy notes and resin. Damn good IPA.
3.9 on tap at Doc's Irish Pub in Gilbertsville - clear golden color. Very good hop aroma and flavor. A solid IPA.
3.6 Pours darker gold. Aroma of pine and citrus. Taste is malty, piney, citrus honey bitterness. Decent sessionable ipa. Would go good with tacos.
3.9 Maybe underestimated today in the fruity bomb ipa market. Great malt balance with mild astringency that plays well in long finish.
3.3 Bottle, from alko, Kokkola. Pours deep golden coloured. Aroma has citrus, bit lemony, grassy piney nose. mild tea-like notes. med bodied, well bittered, clean, nice drinkable. grassy tea, citrus zesty.
3.5 Botella @MoMa Avilés Art, Avilés 01/03/19 Color amarillo con corona de espuma blanca aromas maltosos notas a caramelo sabor malta seguido de notas caramelo final dulce.
3.2 A bottle rather than a can, from Jason's near NCCU, drank last night. Aroma: citrus. Appearance: semi-opaque amber, half a finger of big white bubbles. Palate: medium-bodied and slick, medium carbonation, well astringent. Taste: heavily bitter, lashings of citrus. Reliable standard.
3.3 5th March 2019. 473 ml can (US Pint?) at my daughters place in Laguna Hills, California. Clear and clean amber/orange body, billowing white crown on top. Piney, dank hops in the aroma; some citrus action in the semi-bitter taste. A lot more hops than maltiness in the brew. Nice!
3.6 Nice nose on this IPA from a can. Tangy and a little strength in the buttering... Has a real citrusy after taste. Slick and smooth a piney creeper for sure. I’d drink a half dozen if I had’em.
3.2 [12oz bottle from Albertsons, Fullerton, CA.] A pale amber pour with a loose off-white head; citrusy aroma; soapy in the mouth with a sharply bitter grapefruit taste over a light biscuity malt body; then a lighter bitter lemon finish. This doesn't quite hit the mark for a Californian IPA.
3.9 Pours a pleasant golden amber with pronounced white head. Strong biscuit, caramel, burnt marmalade and earthy hops on the nose. Rich malty taste, caramel, toffee, treacle. There is subdued blood orange and stewed stone fruit as well. Silky, effervescent mouthfeel. I think I prefer this to sculpin so will have to compare side to side. I will revisit this highly enjoyable beer.
