Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin

Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin

Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.

3.8 Pours amber with a thick white head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Taste has light resin and hops, citrus elements. Palate is citrus filled, lots of pine resin. Pretty good.
4.3 Wow! This is good! Pours an apricot color. Two finger toasted marshmallow colored head. Excellent retention and excellent lacing. Aroma is malt and water. Apricot and peach. You lost points here. Not so great, but the rest of the beer makes up for it. Taste is grapefruit, peach and apricot malt bomb. Juicy, but more so the sweet peach side. Tart lemon. Lemongrass. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Crisp. Astringent. Overall it is really good. Delicious. Easy to drink. I would recommend it and would buy it again!
4.1 Ihotel going home from Virginia Beach family reunion 2019. Medium caramel creamy head. Aromas grapefruit, caramel, candy, pine, citrus. Flavors candy grapefruit, citrus, caramel. Medium sweet and bitter. Nice unique balance of flavors. Pretty darn good ipa.
3.9 Color naranja, cristalina. Un dedo de espuma con retención media. Aroma a pomelo, naranja y caramelo. Gusto a pomelo muy potente , mermelada de naranja amarga, malta caramelo, amargor intenso. Cuerpo medio. IPA West Coast de manual, pomelazo, un ejemplo.
3.8 Can @ home, from Toal Wine, Worcester, MA. Pours slightly oily, yellow ocre, no visible carbonation. Aroma decently rich, good strength: nice, sweetish malts, somewhat caramelly, well balanced with tropical fruity, slightly piney american hops, light citruss. Taste: distinctly more bitter, grapefruit, lychee, decent carbonation after all, good strength, nice, fine bitterness. Soft, dense MF. Very good: well balanced, ric, good in every way but for me a bit on the safe side to be truly great.
3.9 On tap at Tap'd, PA Hotel. Pours clear amber with dense white head that laced well. Grapefruit is stronger in the taste than the aroma and it blends nicely w/caramel malt sweetness. Clean & refreshing

4.0 Aroma is grapefruit, marmalade and vegetal hops. Taste is grapefruit, peach, and lemongrass. The grapefruit add the perfect accent without going overboard.
4.6 Tremendous flavor, crisp, on tap at Pint Brothers (Marriott DTC Denver). Pours gold, persistent head / lacing. Want another!
3.8 5/8/19 (Chicago): $6.00 plus tax pint pour at Edison Park Inn.Bronze draft 16 oz pour into pint glass, light pinky sized head dissipates quickly. Light grapefruit and hops aroma. Taste similar to aroma, nice blended hops and fruity taste, grapefruit strong and pleasant. Light mouth feel and carbonation, easy drinking. Overall nice offering.
4.2 Tart refreshing grapefruit, quite subtle
4.6 My favourite from Ballast Point. Just has a little more appeal that the regular Sculpin. Tastes a little fresher and a tad tart, which is to my liking as someone who also loves sours
3.7 Bitterness grapefruit makes it easy to drink but loses its hoppy notes
4.0 Poured clear light amber w/ solid 1 inch foam. Aroma was grapefruit. Taste was grapefruit, sweetness/caramel, orange. Finish wasn't too bitter despite the grapefruit.
3.5 Inbev or no Inbev I really do like this brewery. Sculpin is always safe as houses and this one is no exception. Thankfully not particularly fruity and in what is a nice twist the subtle sour grapefruits given the palate a nice early lift before typical modern IPA bitterness kicks in.
3.2 I thought I would like this fruity IPA but the grapefruit washes away a lot of the flavor that I originally enjoyed in the Sculpin IPA. A good beer, but I prefer the original. Not that it stopped me from sipping away.
3.7 Orange colour, heavy withe head with good retention, citrus aroma, medium body, citrus flavour.
4.0 Aroma: Medium grapefruit, pith, candied orange. Appearance: Clear, amber body. Massive, off-white head. Good retention, rocky. Small to large bubbles. Flavour: Medium bitterness. Medium caramel, grapefruit, pith . Medium-light candied orange.Dry finish with pithy notes. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Grapefruit forward, but balanced and very pleasant. Hides the alcohol very well. 355 ml can ,poured. Thanks Esme & Lambert! 29A. Fruit beer - grapefruit 21A. American IPA
4.0 Bra beska, fina toner av grapefrukt
4.3 From a bottle to a glass. Pours a clear amber color with a huge frothy creamy head. Aroma is citrusy tropical fruits upfront with a nice caramel bready meltiness. Guava, mango, oranges, lemon, floral, honey, vanilla, earthy spices, pineapple, grapefruit, tangerines, pine. Taste follows the aroma well with a medium mouthfeel. Excellent Dipa!
3.5 Tap @ BOT. Clear golden coloured. Grapefruit, lemonade, fairly dry, juicy.
4.2 found this one by luck as passing by to meet my wife at her work. Did some research and had to try it. Very tasty. A must try.
3.9 Can from Trader Joe’s in Cupertino. Yellow color. Medium carbonation. Low bitterness. Very nice grapefruit flavor. More like the peel, rather than bitter grapefruit hops. Easy to drink. Very good.
4.1 7/4/7/4/17 MegaPampelmusenAttacks over all💥in der Nase juicy, auf der Zunge sour & immer hoppy...unter dem Strich ein richtig gelungenes Fruit-IPA😜. Aus der 355ml Can in California. 3.7 A little overrated in my opinion. Great appearance but the flavor was way too much grapefruit juice. Was expecting something more hoppy with a tone of sweetness. Underwhelming. However, it gets better after a few sips. Decent
3.5 On tap at wishbeer garden. Thin white head. Hazy golden pour. Lovely grapefruit bitterness.
3.0 I love the regular Sculpin IPA. The grapefruit tastes like a cat crapped in my mouph.
3.6 Movie theater draft. Lightly hazed orange hue, good head formation. Pale malt, grapefruit, citrus, spice aroma. Some lemony sweetness, lots of grapefruit (obviously). It works.
