Ballast Point Manta Ray

Ballast Point Manta Ray

This new IPA rises above the rest.
We’ve developed many IPA recipes in our R&D program, but right from the tank, our Manta Ray Double IPA was a winner. Aromas of fresh, citrusy tangerine, melon and light pine leap from the beer and linger over a smooth finish. Like its namesake, this brew can sneak up on you – a big beer without a bite.

3.5 Light golden light retention. Aromas pine citrus slight peach. Flavors light peach, medium citrus, light pine, slight fruity hop. Medium bitter medium dry finish.
3.7 Плотное насыщенно пиво , освежает в жаркий день , пена густая , Интересно !!
4.2 หอมหวานบางลื่น
3.3 April 2019. MGM National Harbour. Draft.
Very cloud orange color with a large soapy white head. Aroma is grapefruit, tangerine, and pine. Full silky body. Light sweet and salty with a little bitter finish.
3.8 Pours a clear golden color with white head. Tangerine and pine aroma and taste. Lingering piney hop character. Notes: bottle from the Shopette, Jan ‘19
3.8 330ml bottle served in an ordinary glass. Pours a clear golden orange color forming a medium creamy and aired white head with medium retention that forms and leaves lots of lingering molasses lacings in the glass. Nose is very fruity and herby. Strong notes of tropical fruits: passion fruit, mango, tangerine. Grassy and flowery hops profile. Zest. Sweet pale malts backbone. Slightly sweet upfront taste. Again, strong notes of tropical fruits, sweet pale malts. Grass and piney bitterness. Hints of resin. Strong, lingering and persistent bitterness. Good bittersweet balance. Medium to heavy body. Medium to carbonation. Sweet pale malts, pine and tropical fruits in the aftertaste. Good drinkability. Good quality IIPA.
3.0 Aroma is Peach Ice Tea, brown bread, bit of pine and citrus. Taste adds soap and grapefruit. A bit meh compared to their other beers.
2.7 I should have checked the manufacture date prior to purchase This can is dated 01 august 2018 meaning its over five months old and this may impact upon flavour profile which i thought lacked depth and complexity. This is no hop monster: mild bitterness and pine undercurrents surrounded by gentle citrus fruit and a noticeable malt that nicely balanced the pine. Fluffy clean white lace that disappeared to nothing after the fourth sip. With an ABV of 8.5% its impossible to disguise the alcohol but i thought it was well integrated into the flavour profile. Overall: Do yourself a favour and brush this one and go for the their Unfiltered Sculpin IPA. Forgettable & Unmemorable IIPA.
3.9 0,35l bottle. Pours hazy orange with white head. Aroma of malt, citrus, loads of tropical fruit, pine, apricot, peach. Taste is bitter, mango, apricot, peach, citrus (grapefruit mostly), piney bitterness lingers. Easy drinking.
3.6 Flaska. Klar orange med ett vitt skum. Dofter och smaker av grapefrukt, apelsinmarmelad, örter och tall. Medelbeska. Oljig munkänsla.
3.7 Bottle from Alko. Pours clear golden color with small head. Aroma of malts, caramel, pine, resin, tropical fruits, orange, hops. Above medium bitterness, medium body and carbonation. Dry sweet and resiny aftertaste. Quite hoppy but still malty double IPA.
3.4 Taste: big piney grassy, bitter hops bite with a sticky finish. Earthy, grassy, dry, hopped nose. Gold hue, clear, with big foam head, some lace. Medium to med/full body. Sharp and very hoppy for me.
3.9 On tap at Siena in Centreville, VA. Very hazy, dusky gold/orange with a fine near-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma of tropical fruit, kumquats, peach, pine, honey and pale malt. Taste of pine, tropical fruit, pineapple, stone fruit and caramel. Medium/full body and medium/low carbonation. Pretty, fruity, and tasty.
4.5 From a bottle to a glass. Pours a clear amber color with a huge frothy creamy head. Aroma is citrusy tropical fruits upfront with a nice caramel bready meltiness. Guava, mango, oranges, lemon, slight bubblegum, floral, honey, vanilla, earthy spices, pineapple, grapefruit, tangerines, pine. Taste follows the aroma well with a medium mouthfeel. Excellent Dipa!
3.9 Bottle from Alko, Helsinki. Pours fairly clear golden with a big frothy head. The aroma features strong piney and slightly citrusy hoppiness with a touch of caramel - very rich and nuanced. Taste is light sweet initially with hoppy bitterness gradually rising towards finish. Strong hoppiness as expected; flavours of pine and grapefruit with some sweet maltiness bringing some caramel and fudge initially. Potent but drinkable, warming rather than boozy. The palate is medium to full bodied and smooth, low to average carbonation. Solid work from a solid brewery.
3.7 Sample at the Nimman beer festival. Thick creamy white head. Very hazy light amber pour. Lovely bitterness. Easy drinking for the high abv.
3.9 For a DIPA, this one is an easy drinker! Ballast Point has done well with this iteration! The nose is lacking, but it makes up for it in taste...not as sweet and citrus-ey as others, but gives you a nice hop hit at the end. It doesn't overpower you with alcohol at the end.
3.6 Bought this imported US beer in a can from my local supermarket. In a head-to-head with the Ballast Point Sculpin' IPA, I found this to be pretty similar. Pours with a typically golden IPA hue. Offers little to the nose. A decent head for an IPA. Sharper, more 'roasty' and more bitter than the Sculpin'. Complex citrus notes. Not overly hoppy, although the effect is cumulative after repeated sips. Overall, similar to one of my favourite local supermarket beers, Good George IPA, although the Ballast Point offers less on the nose.
4.2 Very smooth, you wouldn’t know it was an IIPA. Grapefruit, lemondrops, pine and plenty of hops and a touch of seaweed. Well balanced and tasty
3.5 Light gold with a pretty white foamy head that lasts but a few seconds. Aromas of tangerine, pineapple and champagne. First taste is tangy and strong and all the aromas come together in a tropical fruit citrus type of flavours. Good beer, but I prefer the Sculpin.
3.9 Bottle from Alko. Almost clear medium yellow with bone white head. Lots of citrus, a touch of vomit, pine. Bitter with pine resin, citrus, grass, floral. Quite a nice balance and complex bouquet. Light to medium body, lively fizz, very slick. Quite likeable.
3.6 Bottle. Golden in color with a whitish head. Ripe fruityness, tangerine and orange marmalade in aroma. Sweet tropical fruityness and oranges with some bitterness in taste.
3.5 355ml bottle from Alko. BBE 28.05.19. Pours clear golden with a small head. Aroma of sweetish citrusy notes, caramely malts, pine, resin and grass. Taste is sweetish, crisp and grassy with some citrus, pine, resin and caramely malts. Finish is sweet, caramely malty and crisp grassy hoppy with some pine, resin and grapefruit. Decent, quite crisp and citrusy west coast DIPA.
3.7 Bottle. Clear golden color with off-white head. Aroma has caramel, tropical fruits, citrus and some resin. Taste is fruity with long bitter and a bit sweet aftertaste. Flavors of caramel, malt, pine, resin and tropical fruits.
3.7 Copper color with a white head. Piney resinous hops with a bit of fruit but mostly earthy piney stuff. A little sweet from the caramel malt. Good but needs something extra to stand out.
4.3 Just texted mr bones to say this tastes like drinking a precision laser guided by the hands of an angel. Mr bones he replied and said I should think more about how it tastes and smells and looks. I pointed out that this was very subjective and using concepts that people could readily understand made it more accessible. Mr bones he disagree.
5.0 Very smooth double with light notes of pineapple. I don’t care about color or head because I don’t pour it into anything- it’s great right out of the can. It’s stronger, and still smoother than Sculpin- so if you like that beer and hops, you’ll like this beer.
3.3 Bottled 355ml (Alko web) Dark golden colour, small white head. Piney and citrusy aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Sweet maltyness, fruits, lemon peels, citrus and resiny hops in the flavour. Lots of citrusy hops. Very clean, sweetish dipa with a bit weak maltbase for this ABV. Towards old skool.
