Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin

Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin

Hopped in 5 different stages, this beer has flavors of apricot, mango and lemon. But this isn’t your regular Sculpin IPA - this version has the addition of 100% fresh pineapple puree to create a new twist on an old favorite.

3.2 Appearance: Bright medium amber. Slightly hazy. Finger of white foam. Nose: Bright pineapple, candy sweetness, citrus, mango and tropical fruit hops. Taste: Pineapple bomb. Quite sweet. Overpowering or blending with most of the rest of the flavors. Tropical fruit with a hint of a bite on the finish. Body: Medium with lively carbonation. Parting thoughts: A very pineapple brew. the pineapple is pretty much overpowering everything else involved, so if that sounds like not your thing, you may want to avoid.
4.0 Great taste combination even if you can get this beer everywhere now.
1.7 Taste is of fake pineapple. Once a difficult find, now available everywhere, including the local gas station. Billion dollar sellouts. Big beer punks.
3.9 Pours a bright, slightly hazy golden with a medium white head. The aroma has lots of pineapple, mango, citrus and grassy hops, and minor resin and pine. The taste is dry and has heavy bitterness. The heavy pineapple and mango are identical to the nose, while the lesser impressions of grapefruit, resin, caramel, and cereal provide a bit of variance. Pineapple aftertaste. Medium in body and slick in texture. This one is tasty. Its one of those that I could drink all night.
4.5 Härlig fruktig doft av ananas. Bra beska. God öl men den slår inte den vanliga Sculpinölen.
3.6 Bottle from Harris Teeter in Alexandria, VA. Clear gold in colour, with a slight, white, head. floral and citrus hops and plenty of pineapple fruit in the aroma. Flavour had some crisp, balancing, malts, more pineapple, leading to a hoppy, dry, finish. Very good.
5.0 Ballast Point hit a home run with this flavor combo. Definitely my favorite of the Sculpins. Strong pineapple notes compliment a well balanced citrusy hoppiness. Clean finish. Not malty or sweet. Very drinkable. Wouldn't change a thing about this guy.
4.2 Bottle 12 ounce poured in tulip glass Sight: amber small off white foam, clear, some lacing, appears appealing Smell: fragrant aroma of hops, hint of citrus Taste: medium bitterness, some sweetness Mouthfeel: creamy, good follow bitter aftertaste Overall: Excellent India Pale Ale, one of the best even from a bottle
3.7 bottle - Gold pour, citrus and pineapple aroma. Flavor is bitter with pineapple, citrus, and resin. Good malt backbone. Medium bodied. Nice IPA.
4.4 Golden orange hue, good head, mild citurus with upfront pineapple aroma, but not too strong, well balanced all around like all sculpins.
3.5 Bottle. Clear golden color with white head. Aroma - Pineapple, citrus, malt. Taste - Bitter, light sweetness, pineapple, biscuit, mango.
3.4 Kudos for getting any other flavor into this West Coast IPA. Pineapple provides a nice aroma, with just enough taste as well, to complement this beer. I'm not an IPA guy, this was alright.
3.8 On tap at New Bohemia with commonshawn. 10oz pour. Lighter orange with a slight haze. Minimal head. Aroma features citrus and tropical fruits and they are assertive. Taste is pineapple as advertised. I appreciate that there was no deception. Bitterness towards the end like a grapefruit rind. Sweetness prevalent early on due to pineapple presence. I actually think the pineapple does work as an enhancement but with more sips it kind of moves towards overbearing. If you're a pineapple and sculpin fan, this one will be right up your alley.
3.9 On tap at Ballast Point Little Italy. Clear amber. Nose is big pineapple, citrus, pine, caramel. Tastes bittersweet, pineapple, caramel, resin. Tasty.
4.3 Pours golden and mostly translucent with a 1-finger white head and an aroma of pineapple. Tastes of grapefruit, bitter pine and lemon with a long lemon finish. It's medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation.
3.9 Pours a clear amber with a soapy dishwater head that leaves soapy lacing. The nose is purely of pineapple juice. Malty backbone flavors intermingle with a pineapple juice/syrup, lending a very tropical, juicy mouthfeel that is full-bodied, substantial, and integrates the citric and well-hopped pine finish perfectly. This is truly an outstanding IPA with a Northeastern tropical feel. Great take on the Sculpin!
3.3 7% hopped up (70 ibu) pineapple IPA. Can't taste a drop of pineapple! Very hoppy. That's about all I taste. This is not for me!
4.3 Can. Awesome. Sweetness of the pineapple perfectly balances the hoppiness bitter from the Sculpin. Such a great hot weather beer.
4.0 a nice hoppy ipa that is full flavored and bodied. tropical fruit flavors it is a purely sweetish brew with a distinctly real beer quality. sudsy dishwater and heavier bodied it is refreshing and one can sense a malt backbone. slick syrup and not perceptibly dry a well put together and well what one would like A PINEAPPLE INDIA PALE ALE.
3.7 Draught at the taproom in Little Italy, San Diego. Clear amber colored with a medium sized white head. Fruity aroma of hops, exotic fruits and pineapples. Fruity flavor of hops, pine needles and pineapples. Dry hoppy finish.
3.1 Poured at the Eastern Oregon Beer Festival a light amber clear brew with a small long lasting head. The aroma was bitter fruit (pineapple?). The taste sweet, very strong hoppy sharpness. Medium body. Couldn’t really identify the pineapple, maybe it was just me. The hops really come through. A lingering hoppy aftertaste, slightly tangy and pleasant.
4.1 Bottle. Big head, hoppy aroma, fruity but not distinctly pineapple. Light pleasent acidity, quite gentle bitterness. Light, crisp, well carbonated, but full of flavor. Very good.
3.8 Can at Richards; clear amber pour with a thin off white head, aroma has big fresh pineapple, taste has big bitter grapefruit, pineapple really juicy.
4.1 Very good beer. Light pineapple taste and could be drank fast because of the smooth taste. This has been one of my go to beers since I’ve first tried it.
4.1 Bottle purchased at craft beer cellar Aroma 8 /10: Tropical pineapple esters Appearance 4 /5:clear golden with chic head retention Palate 4 /5: moderately carbonation with full palate and crisp finish Taste 8 /10: not overwhelming tropical fruit flavor but enough to make this palatable and refreshing. Finishes piney and pleasantly bitter Overall 17/20: Classic west coast ipa with a nice hit of tropical fruit makes this bright and easy to drink. Final: 4.1
3.5 Rating #2699 - 2016.08.04 - IPYAYDay at @ntnl17. Clear golden amber pour with a bubbly white head. Aroma is canned pineapple, citrus. On the palate, tons of pineapple juice sweetness - pretty high carbonation, but this loses a lot of IPA character for me, more of an alco-pop sensation. Hop presence is detected, certainly a ton of sweetness, but bitterness, nor balance is the star.
3.8 This is a very nice IPA but the pineapple was way too subtle. Cheers from Cannery Row Beer Club.
3.6 Thin off white head of fine bubbles. Distinct pineapple aroma with some soft malts, lemon and banana. Very fruity aroma. Color is a medium golden orange. Moderate bitterness and lively in the mouth. Very citrus forward. Unripe oranges and pineapple. Minimal sweetness to offset the full onslaught of bitterness. Weeds, dried grains, grapefruit pith. Minimal alcohol presence. A little unbalanced and a tad chalky. Very good but could use a tad bit more sweetness to make this really stand out.
4.0 Bright yellow pour. The pineapple is a really nice addition. I think I even enjoy this one more than the regular sculpin.
4.0 24-JUL-2017, bottle @Radison Malm. Hazy, pale golden with a lasting, lacing, White head. Aroma is pineapple and citrus. Taste is citrus, pineapple, sweet toasted malt. Medium body, sweet, bitter. West coast fruit IPA.
