5.0 This is why I love stout. And Ballast Point. And their tasting rooms. And bottled beer.
3.6 355ml bottle pours almost black in color with a finger of light brown head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark roasted grains, coffee and chocolate with some hints of citrus. Taste is a roasted grain, coffee and citrus hop bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Overall, a really nice brew that suits the style well and is balanced and tasty.
3.5 Damn this is the ideal stout. What I picture anstout beer should be, just the go to stout winter beer
4.1 Bottle 33.
3.4 Rami Rami is drinking The Commodore by Ballast Point Brewing Company at Powiśle Prawilny, kawowy, gorzkawy, raczej wytrawny i dosc lekki stoucik
4.4 beautiful stout! pours pitch black with just the right amount of natural carbonation. toasty and roasty, with a healthy amount of bitter to balance the dark strong sweet of stouts. heavy on espresso and fig notes, but within a balanced punch to the palate. awesome.
3.9 Bottle. Sweet dark chocolate and coffee aroma. Pours dark black with a medium brownish head and some lacing. Flavours are sweet with notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, dark fruits and also a touch of hoppy bitterness. Thick creamy texture. Sweet malty finish.
3.3 12oz (Educators on Tap)- Nice caramel head with slight hop nose. Lacing sticks around. Good chocolate with a quick hint of coconut and a quick hop note that ends quickly.
3.9 Black pour with a one finger, creamy tan head. Aroma is full of roast and cocoa, dry roasted nuts, toasted bread and a hint of burnt sugar. Flavor is big roast and dark chocolate up front, roasted nuts, some dark roast coffee. Light to medium body, dry feel, light to medium body, light, but blanketing carbonation. Really good stuff.
3.6 Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 20B). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch unknown (BBF unknown). AROMA: moderate roasted malt aroma with notes of dark chocolate with a slight sweet background. APPEARANCE: very dark brown color and opaque with slight ruby highlights against light. medium brown head with average persistance. TASTE: medium-high roasted malt flavor with notes of roasted coffee and slight dark chocolate. faint nutty note. medium-high to high bitterness with a dry, bitter and roasted finish. PALATE: medium body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a nice and roasty american stout.
3.8 Aroma is vanilla, coffee beans and deeply roasted malts. Taste is caramel, toffee, coffee beans, vanilla and fig. A slight earthiness and clove body rounds out this well balanced hop profile. Appearance is black with a thin beige head that retains fairly well.
3.6 Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is chocolate, roasted, caramel, taste is similar, dry finish.
3.8 Ah, a good old fashioned medium gravity stout. By old fashioned I mean the kinds of beers common among US micros in the late 90s that have become somewhat rare in the age of imperialized over-hopped barrel aged everything. Anyway, it’s a damn good stout. Strong roasted malts, coffee notes, bit of bitter chocolate, balanced with a surefire herbal hop bittering at the end. Dark black but not quite opaque. Good.
3.8 Bottle. Black pour, creamy brown head. Aroma has creamy roasted malt, coffee, bitter earthy cacao and mocha. Taste has creamy roasted malt, mocha coffee, chocolate and a bitter somewhat hoppy finish. Very tasty.
3.8 good malt and a bit of spice and herb with hinting of cocoa the brew is nice and moderate of body. flavorful and thick enough and almost velvety and it is substantial. not heavy in strength and yet not weak there is a perception of sweeet and then a bit of pepper just enough to entice.
3.6 355ml bottle. Jet black colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee and dark chocolate, slightly interference of burnt grain, spelt and fodder. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty, notes of coffee and dark chocolate, an ashy touch, well integrated bitter hop notes contribute to an impression of oil, tar and salty liquorice; lasting, minimally sticky finish.
3.6 Really dark brown color with creamy, brown head. Aroma has really nice fudge and roasted malt. Taste follows with a nice roasted character, dark malt, some coffee and cacao beans, pretty bitter on the finish. Medium body, quite smooth mouthfeel. A legit, american style, roasty stout.
3.6 Bottle. Pours motor oil black with a lacy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Flavor was rich and roasty with coffee, bittersweet chocolate, licorice, ash and some light caramel.
3.5 bottle at home ... dark black ... tan head ... soft dry chocolate roast malt nose ... dry thin roast .. soft chocolate .. light thin chocolate roats
3.4 Pours black with a huge beige head, aroma of chocolate, caramel, dark bread, flavor of chocolate, tangerine, pretty hoppy, medium bodied
3.3 Draft. Pours a medium, well retained, beige head, with layered lacing, over a clear, dark black brown (SRM 25) body......nose is heavy roasted malts with cocoa, chocolate, coffee tones, mild hop spice, balance to the malts.......taste is heavy roasted malts with cocoa, chocolate, coffee tones, hints of light sweetness with toffee/caramel tones, finishing lingering bitter, with moderate hop and burnt malts both contributing, balance overall to the malts.......mouth feel, medium slightly sticky body, no alcohol, carbonation make for a near to creamy mouthful. The burnt malt and hop bitter finish is a bit harsh, a bit more toffee/caramel contribution would balance it out, meaning slightly more caramel/crystal malts would be helpful. BJCP 7/3/11/4/7
3.9 Bottle (from beergium). Pours dark brown-black with brown head. The head stays for some time. Aroma is sweet, roast, malt, lactose. Flavor is sweet and bitter, roast, lactose, malt, some piney hops, and burnt notes. Finish is dry with some sweetness and ashy-burnt notes. Overall: very good, dry and sweet.
3.8 Bottle from Beergium. Always a treat opening a Ballast Point bottle whilst enjoying the refined label art. Roasty aroma with dark malt, coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate, and a hint of hops. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a medium roasty hoppy bitter finish. Body is medium. Great Stout, lots of roasty coffee chocolate flavours with a potent bittersweet flavour. Solid!
3.8 Pint at Doherty’s Irish pub, Cary. Good aroma, sweet . Chocolate minor citrus, dark brown black color good head and lace. Mildly sweet moderately bitter flavor. Medium body, smooth creamy mouthfeel , sweet dry finish. Solid stout, goes down smooth. Flavor and finish slightly better than aroma but not by a scorable difference for me.
3.8 On tap at Tre Små Rum in Gothenburg, Sweden. Dark brown to black beer with a beige head that leaves lacing on the glass. Nose: Lots of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, nuts and chocolate niblets. Taste: Coffee, dark chocolate, cookies, cocoa powder, roasted malt and licorice. Mouth: Full body. Low carbonation. Smooth and creamy.
3.8 12 ounce bottle from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Looks like a stout. This is full of roastiness. Chocolate, too. It is pretty much a classic stout but has bigger roast than most. Some vanilla and plenty of earth. Bitterness is very moderate but grows and there is a hint of spice. That chocolate is dark bakers variety. This is good stuff.
3.8 Shared with Strykzoie on Facebook chat. Pours /black with a tan head. Nose of smooth roasted chocolate malts. Full body. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is rich chocolate malts. Finishes earthy and dry and has a nice bitterness. Good stuff.
