Ballast Point Victory at Sea - High West Barrel

A 12 percent ABV imperial porter brewed with coffee beans sourced from Caffe Calabria, vanilla and peanut butter before being aged in barrels that previously held High West bourbon and rye. The porter has been aged in various brands of barrels and released in bottles over the years, including Woodford Reserve Bourbon Barrel-Aged Victory At Sea (12.2 percent ABV), Heaven Hills Bourbon Barrel-Aged Victory At Sea (12.2 percent ABV) and Rum & Rye Barrel-Aged Victory At Sea (12.4 percent ABV), among others.

4.0 Bottle. 12.0%. No ’best before’ date. Pours a dark brown, bordering black, with a (light) tan head. Good lacing. Sweetish, a bit tart aroma, with chocolate, dark-ish fruits, wooden, light dusty notes. Light nuts, toffee as it warms. Flavour is bitter chocolate, roasted malt, nuts, light toffee, wood. Bitter finish, chocolate, dark fruits, alcohol. Lingering light wood. Whisky as it warms. Lingering grassy note. Overall pretty good, well-balanced. 08.01.20.

4.0 2018 vintage. Bottle. Poured black with a foamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, peanut butter, butter, vanilla, sweet bourbon. Taste was bittersweet, alcohol is apparent, chocolate, roast, vanilla, nut.

4.0 Svart med lys brunt skum. Lukter mørk sjokolade, kaffe og noe sør lakris og vanilje. Fyldig. Lett bitter noe salt lakris. Mørk sjokolade, kakao og havre. Middels lang

4.5 Flaska. Svart med ett brunt skum. Dofter av kaffe, karamell och rostad malt. Smakinslag av kaffe, mörk choklad, nötkräm, trä och en oerhörd försiktig ton av bourbon. Oljig munkänsla. Fyllig kropp. Fantastiskt bra!

3.9 Bottle. A- Pepsi, whisky, oak, vanilla. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Rye whisky, oak, cocoa, vanilla, root beer. P- Full body, average texture, medium carbonation, slightly boozy finish. O- At about 2 years old this was still rather boozy and unusually carbonated. Got a cola like vibe in both the aroma and flavor. Rye barrels add a very nice touch but the coffee also seems to have gone away compared with the base beer, Really enjoyed it but still prefer the original.

4.3 Kolsvart med ljusbrunt skum. Doftar och smakar vanilj, kaffe och choklad. Som en kladdkaka med vaniljgrädde till! Riktig smarigt!

4.0 2018 bottle. Pours opaque deep brown-to-black with a soapy, 2-finger tan head. Aromas of whiskey and wood, with some vanilla to it. Full-bodied and smooth with a long, mild finish. Flavor of coffee up front, mixed with a wood note. this gives way to a sweet note from the whiskey that mixes with a light char at the back.

4.0 0,3 litre Bottle from Systembolaget Charlottenberg. Black with little head. Roasted malts, coffee, Chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, oak, boozy.

3.9 Pitch black colour, large creamy dark tan head. Aroma: nuts, almond, dark chocolate, cacao, cacao butter, coffee beans, vanilla, bourbon. Taste: coffee, a good coffee bitterness, vanilla, dark chocolate, cacao bitterness, nuts, bourbon. Sole burning alcohol. Full, slightly oily, mouthfeel.

2.0 Har svårt med imperial porter. Men god rund smak i början och sedan kommer ”sprit” smaken. Men väl balanserad och det låga betyget beror mest på mitt tycke för imperial porter.

3.9 Bottled from Systembolaget Black with almost no head. Sweet and vinous with chocolate, cocoa, coffee, tar.

3.7 Högt chokladhaltig arom. Kanske till och med enbart choklad, möjligen med vissa brända malttoner och vanilj, om man känner efter ordentligt. Smaken är dominerad av choklad och mycket vanilj. Finns ganska rikligt med bäska tidigt i smaken, men som tonas ut ganska snabbt. Dessutom väldigt rund smak totalt sett och inte så kantig som många högoktaniga vätskor annars kan vara.

3.4 Bottle from Systembolaget Sweden. Big and long lastning brown head. Very dark color. Big chocolat aroma. Dry chocolat taste with medium bitterness.

3.8 Opak kolsvart vätska nästan helt utan skum. Riktigt fin doft med mycket fatkaraktär, fudge, choklad, vanilj, kaffe, whiskey, jordnötssmör och kaffe. Smak som doften men munkänslan är tyvärr lite skarp och vass och det präglar smaken också men funkar riktigt bra till en god vaniljglass. Gott

2.8 Aroma is peanut butter, tahini, chocolates, and dark caramel. Taste is heavy on peanuts and coffee. Sweet and extremely buttery. Vanilla also, and a tad bit salty in the finish.

3.1 Flaska. Vanilj, mörk choklad, en gnutta karamell, en gnutta trä, en gnutta rök. Tyvärr är kroppen alldeles för tunn för att kunna stå upp mot den stora spritigheten. Synd, för smakerna är goda.

4.0 Kakor lakrits choklad känns mer som imperial stout än port

4.3 Dark.... Very dark and rich malty nose with some molasses. Black almost. Taste is light sour from cocoa beans and coffee beans. Also some herbal notes to go. Palate is rich, long and slight bitter. Barrel of bourbon remains on the tongue. Excellent.

3.2 Bottled, from Systembolaget. Black, rich beige head. Aroma of vanilla and chocolate. Mid sweet with medium to full body and rounded mouthfeel. Lots of vanilla, some chocolate and coffee. Warming finish.

3.8 @ Havregatan 20191122. Bottle (355 ml) from Systembolaget. Roasted malty and woody with vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee and bourbon, medium body with a watery texture. The finish is dry with a vanilla touch.

3.8 @ Bjällerödsvägen 22/11-19. Bottle from Systembolaget. Roasted malty with coffe, chocolate, vanilla and BA. Body is medium, the finish roasted with chocolate, coffee and BA.

3.9 2017 Vintage. 2 finger tan head, black body. Nose: Kahlua, coconut, roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, espresso, hint of bourbon, melass and brown sugar. Taste: Brown sugar, roasted malts, bitter coffee, melass, soy-sauce, liquorice, dark bitter chocolate, espresso, coconut, bourbon and Kahlua. Long bitter ending.

4.0 Sample bottle at the mind cafe. Thin beige head. Coffee aroma. Very smooth. Barrel notes. Best beer of the nigjt

3.8 Bottlefrom Alko. Black with light tan head. Snickers, vanilla, coffee. Char, peanut butter, light chocolate. Surprisingly light body for the ABV, smooth and velvety palate with a long, char finish.

3.8 Sysimusta lasissa keskikokoisella vaahdolla. Tuoksussa on paksua maltaisuutta paahdetta ja vaniljaa. Tuoksusta löytyy vahvasti vaniljaa ja maltaista paahdetta. Vahva olut.

4.5 Zwart bier met ruime mokkakleurige schuimkraag die langzaamaan inzakt tot fijn laagje. Volop vanille, hazelnoot, koffie, chocolade. Barrel zit er heel mooi in verweven. Zeer goed in balans. Lange warmende afdronk. Top !!!

3.9 Sampled from a bottle this beer poured a black color with a huge foamy dark brown head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet and malty with cocoa, bourbon, vanilla and caramel. The flavor was toasty malt, bourbon, cocoa, vanilla and caramel. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied.
