Ballast Point Victory at Sea - Peanut Butter

Ballast Point Victory at Sea - Peanut Butter

Smooth peanut butter meets dark coffee in this roasty porter. This Peanut Butter Victory at Sea is a nutty version of our popular imperial porter. We took our trademark robust porter brewed with Caffè Calabria coffee and vanilla and added peanut butter, adding another level to this roasty, flavorful beer.

3.7 Tap@Konttori, Tampere, Finland. Strong, balanced nuances of cocoa, roasted malts, some peanut butter on the background. A hint of lactose and vanilla. Wide taste spectrum and long aftertaste with buttery roasted malts. Strong body with low carbonation. Overall, high quality product with some distinctive character, but only some. 7 4 7 4 15
4.0 Tap at konttori, tampere. Black color, brown head. Aroma has roasted malts, smooth chocolate, some peanuts. Nice full roasty body, peanut notes, coffee and chocolate notes.
3.9 Peanut butter aroma is great. Pour is dark brown, with a little bit of light going through. Red tint on edges of the glass. Taste is dark coffee, peanut butter, bitter chocolate, malt finish. Wish it tasted like it smelled but not bad.
3.6 On tap at Smiths. Pours black. Coffee, cherry, blackcurrant, vanilla, bit of nutty stuff, bit of raw hot sugary booze. Medium body. Not for me.
3.6 Pours black with two finger, tan head. Aroma is molasses, peanut butter and roast. Taste is chocolate and brown sugar, moving to roast and peanut butter. Finish is roast. A good porter.
4.0 Very dark copper, crystal clear, tall, lasting brown head. Rich coffee nose. Full body, dense and intense flavor, smooth texture, big and frothy mouthfeel with high heat and carbonation, long aftertaste, bittersweet flavorful finish. Assertively bittersweet, tart underneath. As expected dominant roast flavors, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter or and creamy background. Delicious but no mysteries, not so different than others in the series.
3.7 Pours a very dark brown with a dark reddish-tan head. Big peanut butter and dark chocolate nose. The tastes are bitter and sweet. Peanut butter and dark chocolate flavors.
4.0 Pours a very dark brown, almost black. Thin amount of tannish-brown foam, very fine. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and peanut butter. Taste is of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, and peanut butter. Thick and creamy. Great stuff. Not too sweet, just right.
4.0 Creamy body of mocha bean and vanilla bean with a thick but understated note of Reese’s/ peanut butter underneath. Medium length.
4.6 At hopcat in Detroit with Hal Greenham after taping the first freedom from chronic pain webinar
3.8 220ml on tap at Mind cafe. Thin tan head. Clear black pour. Hint of peanut butter. A bit boozy. Chocolate in the aftertaste. Very nice.
3.8 Blackish brown colour with beige head on top. Aroma has lots of sweetness, dark chocolate and roasted malts with maybe light nutty tone. Taste has lots of sweetness too. Dark chocolate blends in with the roasted coffee tones. No peanut butter whatsoever, only sweetness. Fullish body and medium carbonation. Slight disappointment.
4.2 Beervana 2018. First beer of the day, may have been a big one to start on. Malt and peanut butter on the nose. Chocolate and alcohol with strong bitterness.
3.8 65 cl bottle. Pours black color with a large beige head. Sweetish caramel aroma, toasted malts, toffee notes, slightly nutty, coffee notes and subtle hops. Flavor is sweetish caramel malty, caramel notes, peanut butter, some coffee bitterness, dry cocoa and chocolate notes on the short finish. Not as sweet as I expected, quite dry and refined actually. Nice. 4525
3.7 Scent and taste of coffee. Good bitterness that fills the upper part of the mouth long while. Good beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
4.1 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/23/2017. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, peanut butter, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, fudge, brown sugar, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, peanut butter, coffee, vanilla, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, peanut butter, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, fudge, brown sugar, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy/peppery hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, peanut butter, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, fudge, brown sugar, toasted dark/brown bread, light molasses/smoke/char, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, peanut butter, coffee, vanilla, and light earthy hop flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and minimal acrid/astringent flavors after finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Overall this is an awesome flavored imperial porter style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, peanut butter, coffee, vanilla, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Definitely less bitter/drying than the coconut/peppermint were; but I felt similarly about it. Not as impressive as the base/BA version as expected. Awesome balance of rich malts, PB, coffee, and vanilla; with solid earthy hop balance against sweetness. A really enjoyable offering, not overwhelming on any aspect. Glad I aged it first.

4.1 2 finger beige head. Pitch black beer. Aroma is amazing specialty coffee, toasted nuts, peanut butter, slightly burnt bread, vanilla and dark chocolate. Taste is as described above but with more emphasis on milk chocolate, toffee and nuts in a great blend. Mouthfeel is smooth with a great balance between sweetness and roastiness. Medium-low bitterness. Very low carbonation. Slightly sticky. Stays rather drinkable, even though the flavours are quite heavy. Overall: I didn't really care for the coconut edition but this was great. This just simply adds big, nutty flavours into an already fantastic beer. Not much else to say, awesome brew!
3.5 Tap at CBH2018, Helsinki. Color is very dark brown with small brownish head. Aromas and flavors: Peanut, chocolate, some coffee and roasted malts. Pretty good.
3.9 Draught @ Craft Beer Helsinki 2018. Smooth, roasty and slightly sweetish with some dark chocolate, coffee, hints of peanut butter, toffee and earthiness. Quite balanced and luckily the peanut butter notes are quite subtle.
3.7 Draught at CbH. Black color, beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, peanut burrer, chocolate, nuts, coffee, coffee and bourbon. Bitter finish with roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, peanut butter, licorice and nuts. Excellent imperial porter.
3.5 A small taste from a friend (tap) @ Craft Beer Helsinki 2018. Pours very dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is roasted malts with loads of coffee and some peanut butter. Flavor is sweet roasted malts, coffee, peanut butter, alcohol, hops. Good, but can't beat the original.
3.8 Pours very dark brown with hues of red, small head of foam, good lacing for having so little foam. Smells of roasted malt, peanut butter, anise, some lactose. Taste has tasty peanut butter, roasted malt, bit of anise, some alcohol. Close to full bodied, smooth, little warming after the swallow. I am enjoying it.
3.9 Bottle. A really good beer. The peanut butter complimented the smooth roasted grains and coffee perfectly.
3.8 (Bottle, 0.65 l, from Alko web shop, 20180623) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, coffee, creaminess and peanuts. Palate was full bodied and lightly sticky with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, coffee, ash, peanuts, vanilla and bitterness. Aftertaste had burntness, peanuts and bitterness. A surprisingly tasty burnt brew with very foreign adjuncts. Still, tasted like beer.
3.6 Tap at Luqua. Nose is coffee, vanilla, chocolate and peanuts. Black, lace. Sweet middle palate, rather bitter finish of hops and roasted barley. Meh. Why add peanut butter?
4.0 Bottle 650ml at home. From Alko web shop. Pours black with khaki head. Roasted malts, reasonable amount of peanut butter, chocolate, coffee, warming alcohol. Medium body, slick oily texture, bitter finnish.
3.9 Oily black body and a creamy tan head. Aroma is dark, roasted malts, coffee with lots of peanuts. Taste is medium roasted malts, bitter like dark chocolate, some peanuts in the finish. Really smooth and well balanced flavours. Medium body and carbonation, silky smooth mouthfeel. It's alright but I feel like the original packs a little more punch.
4.0 Nicely done. Dark blackish brown color with light tan foam. Aroma is peanut butter, molasses, and a touch of coffee. Taste is slightly sweet, but not overwhelming. Enough peanuts and a good bitter coffee nibs to balance. Palate is not overly thick. Done very well. Bottle.
