Ballast Point Victory at Sea - Peppermint

Ballast Point Victory at Sea - Peppermint

This Peppermint Victory at Sea is a festive take on our popular Imperial Porter. We took our trademark robust porter brewed with Caffe Calabria coffee and vanilla and added a dose of refreshing peppermint. The trio of flavors play perfectly on your palate – the brew’s sweet roastiness balances nicely with a cool, minty finish.

3.7 Bottle shared at the July THT. Very dark brown pour with a tan head. Notes of peppermint, chocolate - quite a bit like an after eight chocolate. Medium body and carbonation. Quite refreshing but the peppermint is a bit overpowering.
3.9 8 3 8 4 16 Bottle shared at THT July. Near black with a tan head. Aroma of peppermint upfront with dark chocolate, light coffee and caramel behind. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.
3.7 Draft from Giant Eagle in Grandview: blackish pour, beige head. aroma of roasted malts, coffee. tastes are vanilla, coffee, peppermint, dark chocolate. nice.
3.8 Addition of peppermint to this beer made wonderful job. Imperial beers are rarely refreshing but Victory At Sea doesn’t follow that rule. Peppermint is not dominating aroma, it’s still very good porter and mint just make it better.
3.8 Dark brown pour with nice sized brown head. Nose of toasted malt, peppermint and chocolate. Flavor of roasted malt, peppermint, chocolate and espresso. Nice minty finish.
3.7 Bottle shared at Cotteridge convention 05/03/2016. Many thanks! A jet black coloured pour with ruby red hues, loose mid tan head. Aroma is mint choc chip, dry choc, grainy. Flavour is composed of dark bitter chocolate, , harsh roast. Palate is frothy carbonation, semi sweet, rounded. Lingering dark choc, mellow mint.
4.0 Bottle shared at tasting. Dark brown to black beer with beige head. Nice aroma of milk and dark chocolate, mint and coffee. Taste is medium sweet and bitter, chocolate, dark fruits, coffee, mint. Peppery, mint finish. Medium to full body, soft to average carbonation. Very nice mint praline!
4.0 Rami Rami is drinking a Peppermint Victory At Sea by Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits at Powiśle Bardzo fajne polaczenie miety, czeko, kawy, ciemnych owocow, ziemistosci, palonosci, posmaki mietowe, zimno w gardle. Fajne cialo. Klasa po jakims czasie mieta zaczyna byc ciut meczaca, ciut za mocna dla mnie
3.5 Pours almost black with full brown head. Aroma of roasted chocolate malts, mint, and vanilla bean. Medium sweet taste. Body is Medium-heavy, silky smooth, finish is medium bitterness and cool mint. Very interesting.
4.9 The traditional Victory at Sea is perfect, this is one of the many versions. Nearly perfect, but I prefer the original. Pours black, tan head, lot of lacing. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and vanilla, thin minty notes. It gets all the original version’s flavours (coffee, chocolate and vanilla) but it adds a pleasant minty feeling, similar to those thin dark chocolates filled with mint. The rest is like the original, full bodied, creamy, slick feel, long finish. Bloody good!
3.9 Pours a brown-black color with a medium thick foamy beige head that recedes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, peppermint and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, peppermint, chocolate and coffee. The finish is roasty with a peppermint mocha aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
3.7 Enjoyed at BTBF 2017. Dark brown color. Opaque, beige head. Peppermint aroma, roasted malt, cocoa. Dry woody flavor. Chocolate, sweet, dry finish. Peppermint spice.
3.7 Dark brown color with tan head. Aroma has mint chocolate, cacao and a hint of alcohol. Taste starts quite bitter, continues with dark chocolate with mint, finishes with bitter dark chocolate and a light toothpaste note. Body is quite light for the style, medium to soft carbonation. Overall it’s a decent beer but a bit unbalanced.
3.7 Draft at WOB. Pours a very dark brown almost black in color and topped by a small layer of beige colored foam that fades away quickly to a thin film. The aroma shows notes of peppermint, dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted coffee, and toasted caramel malts. The flavor follows suit with the dark chocolate and peppermint up front followed by notes of vanilla, caramel and roasted coffee. There is a nice bitterness on the back end to keep things balanced as well. Medium bodied and smooth with good carbonation that leads to a dark chocolate and peppermint finish. Tastes is similar to a peppermint patty. Pretty tasty stuff especially if you like peppermint as there is plenty of it in this beer.
3.6 Fucking as ugly as sin. The head is a mottled mess with colours ranging from light tan to brown and with creamy spots and frothy spots. Yikes. The aroma is like a spicy peppermint chocolate bar and the taste follows suit along with coffee. It’s pretty damn nice, but every time I bring this to my mouth, I recoil a bit at the sludge on top.
4.0 650 ml bottle. Pours almost black with full head. Aromas of chocolate mints. Flavors of same with sweetened black coffee and lots of dark chocolate. Liquid after dinner mints...
3.5 Draft @ Ballast Point - Little Italy, San Diego, CA. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty peppermint aroma with hints of coffee. Roasted malty coffee chocolate bitter peppermint flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate peppermint finish.
3.7 Flavor starts out as chocolate with a decent mint character, then strong black coffee kicks in in the middle. Some hop bitterness towards the end. Eliminate the coffee and scale back the bittering hops, this would be amazing. Either way, it’s pretty good.
2.9 Bottle pour. Dark brown with a nice soapy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, toffee, peppermint, and coffee. Medium body. Very sweet for a porter, with a little salty flavor.
3.8 Dark brown/black color; Medium to heavy creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate, some vanilla, & subtle peppermint; Flavor of roasted sweet malt, dark chocolate, coffee/espresso, caramel, vanilla, hops, and some peppermint; Warm finish; Nicely balanced; The peppermint is not overdone - pretty good version.
4.0 650 ml bottle from Beergium. Black body, with a medium, creamy, lacing, beige head. Aroma of mint, chocolate, vanilla, cocoa, some coffee, slight liquorice. Tastes pretty similar, with some more alcohol. Medium to full, creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation. Finishes roasty, medium dry, a bit bitter, warm, wooden, with cocoa, coffee, liquorice, mint, vanilla. Tasty. The mint works very well combined with the dark chocolate and vanilla notes. Drinks really smooth and greatly balanced, not too sweet, with an enjoyable, dry roastiness towards the finish. Not on par with the great, regular version, but a tasty addition.
3.6 Took one of my favorite beers and ruined it for me. Dark pour. Aroma is strong peppermint. Taste is overwhelming peppermint. No.
3.5 Deep brown. Mint aroma is present, coffee is stronger. Fudgy chocolate, mint and coffee, a nice and unique combination. Good stuff.
3.4 Pours out pretty much black with a moderate off white to tan head. Aroma is of some chocolate, medium roast coffee, vanilla, and nice minty notes. Taste is complex, full body, chocolate, some mild coffee notes that I think are a bit muted with the addition of mint. A nice lingering minty note with chocolate and some mild warming alcohol.
3.1 Bomber into a snifter showing pitch black with half a finger of tanned latte foam. The nose shows strong notes of peppermint. The palate is light bodied and highly carbonated; typical porter style. Moderately intense peppermint mouthfeel throughout with the typical dark roasted malts. The sweetness of the peppermint is restrained and further clashes with the dark roasted malts to somehow overemphasize the burnt notes of the malt rather than dark coffee notes. I feel almost as if I should put creamer or sugar into it. Flavors that seemed good on paper don’t work at all here.
3.9 Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, peppermint, coffee and light cocoa. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of cocoa, peppermint, coffee and light roastiness with a smooth lingering cocoa peppermint finish.
3.7 650 ml bottle. Opaque black with a half-inch of lasting creamy foam. Aroma is earthy cocoa, light dose of mint and a touch of coffee with cream. Flavors of cocoa, mint, vanilla light citrus and coffee. Medium-heavy body is smooth with medium carbonation and provides a little minty warming in the gullet. Not a big fan of peppermint, but it didn’t damage the solid beer underneath too much and if you’re a mint fan this one probably doesn’t have enough.
3.2 Wish there was more peppermint in this coffee flavored black porter. Good flavor but missing on one of the bottles ingredients.
3.8 On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and snifter served displaying a black/brown hue, with a finger’s width of brownish tan froth, and curtainy spray as lacing. The nose was roasted, cocoa, and mint. Medium+ bodied, with surprising lively carbonation for the style, the taste was as the aroma, with favorably, non-aggressive peppermint, appropriate, non-boozy alcohol influence, roasted & earthy bitterness, and a dry finish. As the peanut butter version just previously sampled, nicely balanced, and not overdone.
4.4 BOTTLE. Pours a good cola black, thin bubbly head.. Peppermint with chocolate bar aroma, like an aero.. Good dark base, peppermint hits with a sweet kick, then balances out with milk chocolate for an easy yet rich finish.. Sourced Bev mart, date street, waikiki
