Barley Island Barfly IPA

Barley Island Barfly IPA

Our American IPA has an intense hop aroma and flavor. The hop character is citrusy, floral, and fruity (orange/grapefruit) from the use of Summit hops. The complex malt flavor profile supports the strong hop flavor. BarFly is a continuation of our tavern theme. Every tavern has its share of barfly’s - people who visit frequently.

3.4 Boozedude nailed it a few comments below, so I will echo his sentiments: Pours clear dirty orange, nice pine hoppy aroma, taste is pretty good, everything you want in an ipa.. But nothing that really stands out, still, better then the average thats for sure..
3.8 Mmm! Incredible hop bouquet on the nose, floral and pine hints. A little bitterness on the finish with a nice carbon kick in the tail. Decent citrus body with a strong zest and malt balance. Loved it.
3.4 Pours clear dirty orange, nice pine hoppy aroma, taste is pretty good, everything you want in an ipa.. But nothing that really stands out, still, better then the average thats for sure..
3.5 Bottle poured a clear orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of bread, earthiness, grapefruit and light pine. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, earthiness, grapefruit and light pine with a crisp dry moderatly bitter finish.
3.5 Good floral and hoppy aroma. Bottle pours amber with small head. Cloudy also. Slight malt and sweet taste. But dominates with hops grapefruit and citrus. Good beer
3.5 One of the more decent beers from Barley Island. The aroma is floral with a bit of lemony citrus. Medium bodied and a bit dry. Overall, a balanced experience.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a clear amber. Medium sized white head. Mild grapefruit flavor. Lots of caramel and citrus malts. Citrus mouthfeel. Really more malty then hoppy so it makes for a unique IPA. Easy drinking. Pretty tasty, but only average compared to the many great IPA’s out there.
3.7 Beer Bloggers Conference 2012 Amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice IPA with a good hops flavor and aroma. This was easy drinking and tasty.
3.3 12 ounce bottle at the chicago white sox baseball game. nice, hoppy aroma. taste is much maltier than most I PAs. Very bready. a bit too heavy to pound it at a baseball game
3.7 Hazy light orange, slight head frothy with lacing. Very big orange pungent manderine slight pungent dank. Taste is very malty with sweetness then hops pine fruit, dank, spice, fruity spice bittering. This is alot more hoppy and malty than i expected it to be,i admit i had low intentions but this is prettty good.Pretty impressed .
3.0 From a bottle to a duvel tulip. Pours a hazy dark orange with 2 inches of off white head that shrinks down with decent lacing. Aroma is grassy, citrus, and bready malt. Taste is very mild citrus, bread, caramel, and a bit of lemon. Thin to medium mouthfeel and higher carbonation. Not a bad beer, just not an ipa. More like a pale ale fused with a mild ale.
3.3 From a bottle poured an amber color with a small amount of head. Nice hoppy flavor with a quick finish.
3.2 Bottle. Caramel malt and sweet orange aroma. Hazy orange with a small off-white head, light lacing. Pronounced biscuity malt flavor, with a light piney/citrus hop bitterness. Medium body and carbonation. Nice.
3.7 Pours a deep amber with a decent tan head. Aroma is wonderful...caramel and pineapple...nice florals. Taste is very clean, dry, and crisp...a little bread...hoppy..malt. I like the restrained hoppiness of this one....excellent.
3.1 Bottle; Pour is murky dark golden with an average fine bubbled off white head in this glass. Light lacing is present, with average retention. I think the nose is probably the best aspect of this brew; its malt forward, though - caramel mainly, though florals come through as well. I think it’s a nice feeling overall; the flavor profile reveals a good beer, although unremarkable to me. Biscuits and caramel, florals and very light citrus.... It diminishes.
3.2 Bottle pours a murky orange with an off white top. Scent is caramel and citrus. Taste is same with a breadiness as well.
1.9 Just not the greatest IPA. Sweet and malty, but not complex at all, but flat.
3.8 Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Amber brew with a thick off white head - slightly cloudy and manages to catch the light and glow. Very nice. Aroma of malt, floral and a little citrus hops. Taste is moderate malitness at the very start of the swallow followed by a great complex hoppiness. Good palate, well crafted, what’s not to like?
3.7 Bottle - small foamy head, light amber/orange color; big citrus hop aroma and flavor with definite orange tastes
3.2 (Bottle) Pours copper with an off-white head. The aroma is floral, fruity and nutty. The flavour is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of oranges, flowers, spices, nuts and cookies. The mouthfeel is clean with a smooth carbonation. Cookies and flowers on the finish. Near medium bodied.
3.5 Slightly more malty than hoppy in aroma and flavor. Not bad really, a lingering bitter finish helps this clean up decently.
3.7 Bottle. Really enjoyed this for a single IPA. Very citrusy and floral. I thought there was a good malt/hop balance. Appearance is a nice copper with a small head that lasts and good lacing on the glass.
3.0 12oz bottle pour. color is redish orange. 1 finger white head. aroma is of mild hops and malt, an even mix of the two. taste is malty with some lingering astringent citrus hop flavor.
3.0 [Bottle] Dark amber pour with about a half inch of white foam on top. Citrus and pine hop aroma is actually pretty subdued. Typical grapefruit, orange zest and astringent grassy hops in the taste. The malt profile is there, but mainly bready and weak. Average carbonation levels. An easy drinker, but very run-of-the-mill.
3.1 orange color, respectable off white head, lacy. nose of citric hops. flavor has a malty backbone, some caramel, citrusy hops, grapefruit. medium bodeid, mild bitter finish. this one is not as balanced as many ipa’s. my notes say "kind of muddy in taste". just o.k.
3.5 Pours coppery golden with an off white head. Aroma is citrusy hops and a little malt. Flavor is piney hop, sweet caramel malt, and a little fruity citrus.
3.4 Pours a dark, cloudy amber with a thin foam head. Pleasant but light floral hops aroma. Strong floral hops flavor on a thick palate, over a bitter hops flavor. Sticky mouthfeel with a caramel aftertaste.
3.4 Bottled@Monks Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Deep golden colour with a mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is citrus fruits, mild tropical fruits as well as some crisp bready and sweet maltyness. Flavour is fruity, floral and rather malty with a crispy bite. tonguetickling carbonation. Balanced and quite nice not too sweet IPA.
3.4 Bottle. Pours clear caramel amber. White head. Nose/taste of sweet malt, caramel and hops. Light pine finish. Medium body.
3.6 Pours a dark gold, hints of copper. Light tan head, ok retention, not much lacing...The aroma was really nice, lots of orange, super sweet, nots of pine and caramel on the finish...The taste was really nice. It was sweet enough to make it drinkable but balanced by some nice hops light pine. Overall, a super solid ipa, worth trying but not actively seeking out.
