Bass Pale Ale (USA and export)

Bass Pale Ale (USA and export)

Available filtered in bottles, cans, and kegs.

Versions of Bass brewed in the UK for export at 5%-5.2%, as well as a US-brewed version for the North American market at 5%.

Brewed from the late 70s at Burton. In 2000, after Interbrew bought the Bass brand, production was switched to the Ulster brewery in Northern Ireland. In 2003 production and distribution was switched to Latrobe for a 12-18 period after which it reverted to the UK, latterly at InBev’s Samlesbury brewery. As of 2012, the US version was being produced at A-B InBev’s Baldwinsville brewery.

3.5 Tap in Kagawa, Japan. Golden color, clear, lasting thick head. Aroma not interesting, but taste is really nice. Also great smooth mouthfeel. I was surprised. Overall, nice beer when going out.
3.0 Draft at St. John's Wood, Sapporo, Japan. Pours a transparent brilliant red, with persistent very fine white foam. Aroma is weakly malty. Body is average, with moderate carbonation. Taste is medium sweet with limited bitterness. Finish is average.
2.8 Aroma is of bread and caramel. Moderate bitterness. Flavor is of caramel and bread crust.
2.1 een Ale met een fruitig en droog aroma en een karamelachtige, licht zoute moutsmaak. Een keer gekocht om uit te proberen, geen blijvertje....
3.5 Darkbronze, clear creamy head that dosnt last. Mild malty aroma. Sweet, salty caramel. Mysingur. Scandinavian pharmacy liqruish in the aftertaste.
1.6 Weak and offensive taste. Body is light with metallic coming through too much
3.1 Pours a medium amber in color with a good two finger head and lots of lace. Biscuity malt with a slight caramel sweetness with light hops to balance. mouthfeel and carbonation are good.
2.7 Drank sometime ago. Didn't have time to review at the time. Update needed when drank again
3.2 Usa version not same as British version I remember. Good but does not have that same pop. Id rather spend my money on a domestic ipa from the northwest. May be the original but 🇺🇸 ipa's have surpassed your grandpa's ipa.
1.5 USA made version, amBass. OMG - a ruined beer. At least the canBass version under "license" still kept the recipe and tried to be true to the original. This is a sellout. The caramel malt is not very evident, it's watered down and over carbonated. What did they do, combine it with a vat of Bud Lite??? Mouthfeel off, hops off, grain bill probably wrong. Yikes.
2.6 Refrescante, gran sabor aunque se queda lejos de algunas del estilo, sobre todo para quienes estamos acostumbrados al sabor de las American Pale Ale.
3.4 Buena cerveza, Buena cerveza, Buena cerveza, Buena cerveza, Buena cerveza,
2.2 Cask @ P&O Ferry. Amber colour, white foam. Sweet, malty, bit skunky. Light bitter, some tartness. Meh, not very nice bitter.
3.3 I liked this quite a bit. mild and toasty, went great with my fried haddock
4.0 Nice
0.5 Cerveja muito boa. Para uma pale ale, é leve e refrescante. Deliciosa. Vale a pena experimentar.
3.4 amber, clear, minimal head, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour, medium body, thin feel, fizzy,
3.0 12oz bottle at home. Clear amber with a medium white head. Mild malt profile, light hops, some bread. Light bodied. Malty finish. I remember this being better back in the day, but maybe it’s a palate thing.
3.0 Pours clear amber, at first quite prominent foamy head but after a short while, nothing really left of it. Nose caramelly, sweetish and grainy. Malt caramel? Taste has moe of that, mild and smooth still, fruity, and lots of biscuits there in the second wave. Toasted caramel, bitterness is quite light, some metallic elements coming out in the end. Aftertaste is relatively mildly bitter, some more metal. Overall, well, drinkable - yes, excellent - not really, English - probably so.
3.2 Very mild aromas of citrus and malt. Pours a golden orange with a white head that dissipates quickly. Subtle balanced tastes. Not very distinctive but pleasantly drinkable.
3.0 Bottle. Amber color pour with a quickly dissipating off-white head. It has a malty aroma with caramel and floral notes. It is lightly bitter with a watery finish.
3.2 Pours very clear, light orange, almost white head. Light malty aroma. Taste is light malt, some spicy fruity hops. Better than I expected, bit still not my favorite pale ale .
3.3 My dad’s favorite beer. After learning the history of this historical beer it is too bad it is now being brewed by in-bev losing all authenticity.
2.6 Bottle; pours clear copper with a white head; aroma is weak with caramel, bread, and some faint hop notes; taste is a bit bland with a little caramel and some floral hints; finish is dry with some light bitterness; meh...
3.3 Tap in Osaka. Nice copper-amber pour, creamy beige head, lacing. Not much aroma, a little caramel, malt, hopping. Nicer flavour though, approachable mild caramel and toffee malt. Low bitterness, medium feel, easy over a couple of pints. Had countless time over the years and pleased to see it keeps up and does the job even as my palate keeps shifting.
2.8 12oz bottle from the state store Pours clear amber with a small off-white head, light lacing. Aroma of toffee, malts and bitters. Taste of toasted malts, toffee, fruity with a mild sweetness Decent
2.0 Bottled at the BA lounge, IAH. This bottle says 5.1% It pours clear amber with a quickly dissipating off - white head. The aroma is sweet, stick, mostly caramel and toffee, toasted brown sugar, candied orange, cherry cola and generic fruitiness. The taste is crisp, restrained bitterness, caramel, toffee, big cola vibe, brown bread, cereal and some dried fruits. Watery mouth - feel and some prickly carbonation. Pretty basic stuff. Drinkable it is, but it is the sort of thing any old dirtbag could brew with a malt extract kit.
3.4 I cant believe i havent reviewed this yet, Bass is a good standard pub ale. It is a little light on aroma and taste, with hints of malts and not much else. However it is rather smooth and easy to drink and its not offensive, overall its a pretty decent brew thats worth a try. Originally rated on 11/15/08.
3.0 0.33 l bottle @ Finn McCool, Tokyo. Imported by Asahi. No idea about the appearance because it was served without a glass, just the bottle. Taste was mineral and malts. Not really any hops. Interesting but how close this to the original?
