Batemans Combined Harvest (Bottle)

Batemans Combined Harvest (Bottle)

Bottle: pasteurised. Bottled by Marston’s.

Combined Harvest is a unique combination of brewing worts, or extracts from a variety of cereals. Most premium ales are brewed only using malted barley, but this multigrained beer has a unique multigrain blend of malted barley, oats, rye and wheat. Grainy tasting with a delightful floral start and finish.

3.0 500ml bottle from Ken Warne grocery store, Darlington. Pours an amber colour with an off-white foam head. Aroma of grains, grassy, slightly metallic hop. Taste is grainy, rye, bready, sweetish with some biscuit and grassy bitterness. Light to medium bodied, soft to medium carbonation, dry tangy grassy bitter finish. OK.
2.7 Bottle from a Costcutter, drunk at home. Reddish brown, clear, quite a lot of carbonation the way so many filtered supermarket bitters do. Slight smell of berries but in all honesty it is marred by an artificial metallic/astringent aroma. Bittersweet and cardboardy. Some nice fruity undertones in the finish. Body tastes flatter than the visible carbonation would suggest. I don’t really care for this.
2.5 Rating from 2011. Amber golden colour with small head. Grainy aroma. Taste is sweet and malty.
2.6 Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - orange to auburn. Irn bru like. Thin head. Nose - honey and cornflakes. Taste - honey nut cornflakes. No bitterness at all. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a finish that could be cleaner. Overall - far too sweet.
2.5 Quote from the bottle "It has equal appeal to male and female drinkers. It goes well with MOST FOOD DISHES". Amazing. Pours amber, light haze, thin ring of white head. Sweet, slightly nutty aromas. Sweet taste. Sweet finish.
3.4 Bottle. Light caramel ale with a thin, quickly reducing white head. Nose is light and lemony. Taste is sweet and lemony with a touch of caramel. Tasty, light, quaffable. Not exciting, but tasty!
2.6 500ml bottle - Found on the shelves at Cost Plus World Market. A somewhat uninspired aroma, light caramel, light cereal notes with something close to a fresh bell pepper. Bell pepper-like flavor also shows up in the flavor, but also a good helping of caramel malts, bread with just a little black licorice. Not entirely a bad pint of beer."
2.5 Bottle from Aldi. Pours amber with a thin off-white head. The taste is grain and syrup plus a hint of aniseed. A tiny bit of citrus in the finish. Very average.
3.2 Clear golden beer with a thin bubbly head. Aroma is earthy with a slight touch of citrus. Flavour is light and lemony initially and the same earthiness of the aroma follows, coming from the malt and grains. There’s a slightly metallic tinge to the otherwise hoppy aftertaste. It’s not as interesting a beer as you might hope from the premise but it’s pretty decent all the same. I probably just about prefer this to the cask but I’d be interested to try the cask one again because my memory of it is quite different to this/how my rating on here describes it.
3.0 Bottle received as a gift. Pours dark orange - little head - flavours - marmalade, sweetness. Quite enjoyable summery beer
2.4 Bottle shared at a tasting at the Beer and Beyond shop. Murky honey-brown. Fruity, oxidized and some cardboard aroma, oxidized fruity taste with some honey. Not carbonated, medium body, sweetish finish. Something went wrong along the way, that’s for sure - manufacturing? storage?
3.4 light malty and fruity aroma... the taste is mild, refreshening, grainy with shades of honey... dry fruity aftertaste...
2.7 Bottle from morrisons. Amber beer with medium head. Aroma is grain and malts. Taste is some tangerine, hop and cereal grain. Didn’t like the taste much even with a touch of spice in the finish. No more.
3.5 500ml bottle. Pours a clear copper colour with thin soapy head. Aroma is hoppy, malty and there is some hay/straw. But the taste is great. Really nice and hoppy. But an interesting after taste of banana? Really liked this.
2.0 Malt heavy aroma, but the flavour lacks any real interest. Wouldn’t want more than one of these.
2.1 Apparently this beer won a prestigious gold medal back in the day, but I just don’t get it. First, English ESBs, Premium Bitters, Pale Ales, and IPAs are all just meh in my opinion. I’ve yet to have a good one. Always too malt heavy, hops subdued. WTF?!
2.9 Nice concept but bland brew. No malt flavors beyond the English hops. Thin body without much head.
1.9 Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks kerenmk. Pours rusty to yellow with a quick disappearing head, aroma of diacetyl, toffee and malt, flavor is malty with diacetyl, toffee and sweetness, light bodied.
1.3 Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks kerenmk. Hazy golden with no head. Very oxidized and stale aroma of cardboard, honey and some rotten fruits. Sweet flavor of cardboard and honey. Medium-bodied. Really oxidized and unpleasant.
3.5 Golden colour with a marshmallowy white head and definite sparkle. There are aromas of citrussy mandarin and spicy grains. The flavour brings out the spicy rye and gentle graininess. An interesting beer, but light and approachable. Good for ruminative autumnal afternoons.
3.5 Undated 500ml(?) bottle served in a snifter. Body is a nice medium orange-brown, but the head is small and rather weak. Aroma: good aroma similar to a regular brown ale, Flavor: to my surprise, I believe the multi-grain origin is quite apparent; suggests multigrain bread, particularly in the aftertaste. Certainly has way more complexity than a typical ESB or brown ale. Feel; Medium carbonation; near medium body seems slightly thin; semi-dry finish. O: a fine ESB worth seeking out.
3.4 Atlanta, Ga. - Tower Beer, Wine & Spirits - 500 ml bottle. Slightly cloudy light copper pour, light off-white filmy head. Aroma has some light molasses notes, a hint of orange marmalade. Flavor has a nice subtle bitterness to it with some light citrus notes, a touch of dates and molasses, a touch of yeast and honey. Mouthfeel has a nice smoothness to it., Session worthy.
3.1 Appearance: Clear amber with finger thick soapy white head. Aroma: Bread, cereal, syrup/caramel, raisin, peppery, note of skunk. Taste: Low/medium sweet, medium bitterness and low sourness. Palate: Thin smooth texture, light body, average carbonation, lingering dry biscuity, cereal bitter finish. Comments: Tasty and slight lace.
3.1 500ml bottle from supermarket. Nice amber color with a white head. Nose and taste is fruity with a little hint of citrus. Very easy drinking .
3.3 Bottle from Beers of Europe.County # 40. Pours clear golden with a big creamy white head. Aroma of grainy malts. Taste is moderate sweet grains, hay, bread and with a light dry citrussy end. Not bad.
2.3 @Weilands Market/Columbus Clear golden copper with a long 1/2" head, light, isolated swirls of lace. Taste is caramel malt with other grains added, which creates trouble rather than interest. The"adjuncts" mostly add sour vegetable extract, with no growth or change through the palate. The finish is very lightly bittered. Not a keeper.
3.2 Flowery aroma with a little funkiness. Flavor is smooth and very sweet, with some caramel and dark fruit. A little bitterness provides some balance in a somewhat watery finish. Decent, but not worth seeking out, even if you like ESBs as much as I do.
2.5 500ml Bottle. It pours a medium white head over a golden body. Its aroma is honey, malt and sour hops. Its taste is a bit non-descript really. The only thing really of note is a nice creamy initial mouth feel that ends watery - bit strange that! Otherwise its lacking in taste and character but it is drinkable.
2.8 Aroma is malty, but not like in a lager. Rye and barnyard; plus fruity notes. Minimal head, amber colour. Lightly sour, lightly bitter. Soft carbonation, full body. Maybe lacks some bitterness and character, but it’s a good beer.
2.4 So, the countdown has started. I gotta work hard cuz Richie simply has a higher run rate than I do. I don’t wanna let him down and this has got quite exciting. 8 ticks today would be good, This is obviously an average start. This is gonna be fun...
