"A full flavored Pale Ale, having a predominantly fruity palate with malt overtones, a subtle hop character gives this Pale Ale a delicate overall palate, making a very drinkable beer."

2.9Pours an amber colour ale with a white frothy head
Notes of roasted toffee caramel and malt beer with roasted coffee t
2.8Aroma : Toasted sweet toffee maltiness, dark soft fruit sweetness-mainly blackcurrent with a little christmas cake spice mix. Taste : As aroma. Malty with an initial moderate bitter spicy bite before the sweet fruits quick in. O.K. but just a bit too sweet to be a great bitter!
3.5Medium brown colour, sweet nose with an even mouthfeel.
Rounded body with a malty sweetness. Basic flavours though.
Medium finish. This is good value for supermarket beer.
3.8500ml bottle from Tesco, Watford and drunk on 03/02/2006. Very much enjoyed this beer at the time, a full bodied and quite rich ESB.
2.0Bottle from Morrisons, Birtley, Gateshead. Amber coloured with a thick white head. It has a soapy red fruity flavour with toffee and dried fruity notes on the warming, spicy finish. Poor for the ABV.
0.8I’ve been drinking Batemans for the last 30 years. I don’t know what they’ve done to it in the last 6 months but the whole brewery is now undrinkable. Foul, nasty stuff. I don’t pour many bottles down the sink, but this one went.
Great shame, as the old Victory was an accomplished traditional IPA easy drinking and heavy hitting. Malty, bitter, smooth. I have no idea why it’s changed.
2.2I find it hard to describe this as an Ale...its more of a mix between ale "sherry" therefore for me its a poor "beer"...I think it falls in no mans land.
No for me.... :)
3.5Bottle. Clear red, low, unstable, off-white head, a little lacing. Aroma malty, peppery, caramel, a whiff of nuts, a hint of tobacco. Taste smooth, thick, slightly sweet. Carbonation high, tingling. Bitterness medium, herbal. Aftertaste malty, caramel, roasty, a little herbal, bready, peppery, a little alcohol. A very nice ESB.
3.3Malty floral aroma in a copper pour. Hop forward balance with a sweet malt body and finish. Easy drinking - nothing more.
4.5A really enjoyable beer which I find goes well when you're having food. Quite strong with a decent amount of bitterness on the back end
3.5500 ml bottle bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.
Clear amber copper colour; One and a half finger head with soapy off-white foam which last for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation; Fragrant aroma of full Ale malt, with strong caramel, toffee, red fruits, floral, molasses, strong pepper, spices, strong bread, lemon and grass; Medium sweet taste of Ale malt, with caramel, light toffee, red fruits, orange, floral, molasses, spices, dry biscuits, lemon, fair bitter hops and grass; Mid to light body. Thin, dry but slick palate; Mouth Feel is strong Ale maltyness in a pretty watery background, rich and slick. Good deals of toasty caramel, toffee and red fruits flanked by fairly citrus hops. Flowery with strong molasses, spicy biscuity with lemon to round. Solid!... Hoppiness is floral, pepper, spices, lemon and grass in nose. Orange, floral, spices, lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness is fair for an abrupt, mid-to-low astringent sweet-bitter bready malty finish; Dry after taste. Sweet fruity and slightly bitter to mouth.
Comments: This one has good looks, decent spicy malty aroma, and a sweet but dryish toasty taste. Hoppiness is mostly in the nose, nicely sweet and tightly malted. Enjoyable!
3.2Bottle. Backlog rating from bottle collection and historic scoring. Source not recorded. No tasting notes kept, just rating.
3.2500ml bottle at home, poured clear chestnut with clear colour head. Light malt hop caramel and toffee notes. Not too bad.
3.2Bottle. BBE Sept 2017; Drank June 2017 - Clear deep orangey gold in colour. Medium foamy off-white head. Malty; toasty bready malts, caramel, toffee, sugar. Dark fruits, raisins. Mildly spicy, peppery. Moderately hoppy. Syrupy but quite dry. Sweet toasty malty fruity throughout. Moderately bitter hoppy finish. (2017-06)
2.2500ml bottle BB 31 May 2017
Hazy brown with slight head.
Malt vinegar aroma.
Slight bitterness, malt palate then dry finish but this is overcome by oxidization/wet cardboard.
Average.
3.5Bottle. Dry, light bitter, full bodied. Good, solid premium bitter, fruity with a solid malt backbone. You can’t knock it, but the cask version is better.
4.2From old tasting notes. Deep translucent mahogany brown color. Bubbly tan head. Toasted malt nose hints at smokiness. Sweetish, toasted malt flavor is soft on the palate, yet deliciously chewy with a spicy hop finish. Long buttery malt aftertaste. Delicious.
3.3Bottle at home. Dark copper. Citrus flavours followed by some smooth caramel. It’s ok.
3.8A very good ESB. Lots of malt and caramel and overall very pleasant. It was a very smooth beer and almost Belgian from the taste of the caramel.
4.1Served in a snifter from a 500ml bottle. Pours dark clear amber colour with a white head, medium lacing. Aroma is caramel malts and bread with some alcohol laced through. Taste is pretty much following the nose with malts, caramel, bread and some alcohol, bitter-sweet with a subtle bitter finish. Medium smooth body with medium carbonation. Surprisingly, this ale is not ruined by the presence of the alcohol notes at all! Very nice, tasty and enjoyable.
3.0Copper brown, no lasting head. Low carb and light palate. Toffee malt, plums and dried prunes.
2.4Bottle from Morrisons Fort William 160613.
Clear dark copper with lasting white head. Malty nose and body. Very faint bitterness, too much alcohol sweetness. Unbalanced. Uninteresting.
3.2Nice malty beer. Liberty not a hop I’m use to. Subtle mellow fruits. Nice. Similarities to great Kentish bitters such as Bishops Finger.
3.2500ml bottle from Ken Warne grocery store, Darlington. Deep gold amber colour, off-white foam head leaving alittle lacing and nose of malt, biscuit, earthy metallic. Flavour is malt, toffee, fruity, hop, some biscuit and bready notes, with woody earthy bitterness. Fairly smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy bitter finish. Quite drinkable.
2.7500ml bottle. Clear, copper colour with a thin white head. Not really getting any aroma. Taste is a little caramel and a lot of spice. Bit thin.
3.0Ciekawe strong ale o ciemnym bursztynowym kolorze i malej pianie. Slodkawe z karmelowo owocowym finiszem. Zimne bardO dobre
2.8From bottle pours golden with minimal bubbly head which doesn’t last. Aroma is sweet caramel malt, biscuit, toffee and slight fruit. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and a bit bitter, rather watery feeling in the mouth. Not particularly great but not bad either. Quite drinkable.
2.9500ml bottle pours a clear deep amber, very little head which completely disappears almost immediately. Caramel, malt and bit of banana bread note on nose. Taste is malty and sweet. Pretty thin, slight warmth from alcohol and fairly short finish. Pleasant enough but unremarkable.
2.9Average bitter. Some caramel and biscuits here, a bit of sweetness, hint of hops and that’s it. Drinkable.
