Bottle conditioned. Also available in cask at 4.1%. Ratings for the cask version should be entered under Bath Gem (cask)

A rich aroma of hops and malt develops a full texture in the mouth. It has a long, deep, bitter-sweet finish. Without doubt an exceptional best bitter.

Ingredients: Maris Otter pale malt. Challenger and East Kent Goldings hops.

2.7 500ml bottle. Decent amber pour and thickish head. A malt and biscuit flavour with a mild bitter finish. Not picking up much of the dark fruity notes. Tastes ok but a bit dull.
3.0 For ratebeer. I am sure I am not alone... This is a stonewall 3.0 beer. It's fine. But that's it. My criteria is that at 3.0 I would buy again. Just. This is very simple, a perfect amber ale. Not much in the way of freshness but it has this welcoming, sinkable fudge aroma and taste. Usually with English ales it's all on caramel or toffee. This, surprisingly has more of a sweet creamy fudge note. For that.. well played.
3.1 Bottle 500 ml ABV 4.8 % from Waitrose. Aroma is sweet with malt, caramel, dark fruit. Pours clear chestnut-amber body with a big beige-white head. Taste is malts, caramel, dark fruit, hay, possibly hints of citrus.
3.3 500ml bottle. Dark amber colour with white head. Bready malt, citrus, caramel, orange peel, nutty, light tangerine, light doughy, light stone fruit. Best bitter I've had in a while
3.2 500ml bottle. Pours clear amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is toasted malt, caramel, biscuit. Taste is light sweet, nutty, caramel, a but earthy. Ok.
1.6 500ml bottle in 2015. I don’t know quite what it is about this beer, but I really don’t like it, and I never have. In bottle or cask. There’s a weird musty, but somehow sugary sweet aroma to it and the flavour really echoes that. I just get big candied peal mixed with cardboard.
3.3 Thanks minutemat for sharing! (Euro Summer Santa 2019). Clear amber body with a minimal vanishing ivory head. Aroma is fruity, floreal with biscuits and caramel notes. Taste is malty (caramel and toffee). Mild floreal and hoppy note. Mineral and mild hoppy finish. Medium body, soft carbonation oily texture.
3.9 zapach bardzo przyjemny, złożony, słodki, ale dość subtelny, słody, słodkie wypieki, lekkie toffi, lekki jasny karmel, może odrobina jasnej krówki, do tego dobrze ukiszony tytoń i drewno. kolor głeboki, brązowo miedziany, klarowny, ładny, piana w kolorze złamanej bieli, średnio obfita i średnio trwała. w smaku pełne i bogate, ale jednocześnie dość delikatne, lekko skarmelizowane słody, karmel, odrobina popiołu, przypieczona skórka od chleba, ale wszystko to zaskakująco lekkie, troszeczkę toffi, czarnego pieprzu, ziemi, tytoniu. goryczka niska, lekko drewniana, przyprawowa i tytoniowa z nutą karmelu. lekkie, ale bardzo bogate w ustach. nasycenie wysokie, dużo bardzo drobnych bąbelków.
3.6 Bursztynowe klarowne, niska gesta biala piana. W aromacie chlebek, karmel, lekka nuta bialego wina. W smaku chlebek, troszke wieksza slodowosc, delikatna palonosc, karmel.
4.5 Nice beer, I enjoyed drinking 4 of them, good session ale, nice colour and aromas
2.4 Bitter aftertaste.
2.9 Malty caramel flavour, a little sweet some bitterness. Quite well balanced but not my taste, pours Amber with a fine white head. Ok.
3.7 Keg draught at the Bristol Hotel, Bristol (July 2013). Attractive dark amber body. Thin white head. Nose is bags of citrus, marmalade, fruit and spice. Bitter. Dry finish. Crisp mouthfeel.
3.1 Bottle from CO-OP, South Wales. Lightly fruity with a malty body and smooth finish. The taste of a malted milk dunked in a cup of tea, brewed and bottled.
4.0 Bottled chilled. What can I say about this wonderful bitter Amber, from cask to bottle always hits the spot. Perfect balance of bitter to malt on the palate with a satisfying finish. In a new world of ipa I still feel classics like this are hard to beat, highly recommended especially if you can find on cask.
2.7 Ok Amber ale
3.4 Caramel and biscuit malt predominate. Mild bitterness and not much fruit in the flavour. Well crafted ale by a consistently decent brewery
3.0 Bottle from Waitrose. Clear golden/amber body with a thin off-white head that fades. Steady carbonation. No lacing. Aroma of earth and caramel. Flavour of weak tea and earth. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. Dull and inoffensive.
2.9 A real decent malty brew. A caramel, boiled dark fruit sweets with a good kick of carbonation and decent mouthfeel. A nice balance of sweetness and mild bitterness. Decent!
3.1 500ml from bottle in a Bath's pub. Amber colour, biscuity malts, medium carbonated, light in palate
3.1 A nice dark colour, a modest head when poured from the bottle - and a rich, malty, somewhat bready aroma (I even detect some roastiness). Carbonation is gentle, but the rest of the experience doesn't quite match up to the overture. I catch a hint of toffee, a crescendo and decrescendo of (adequate) bitterness - and a finish that is a little anaemic, too much like an echo. I miss a bit of depth and I miss a bit of balance. Put the two omissions together, and there's something irritating about this beer. It starts out too nobly to carry on so averagely.
3.5 500ml Bottles from Tesco, Gateshead; and Sainsbury's, Bristol. Amber-copper coloured with a thin white head of foam. It has a malty, toffee and dried fruity flavour with burnt toffee and plum on the warming, nutty finish. Good.
3.0 Amber ale _ descr.Bittersweet well balanced maltyLargerly. And aybe toasty
3.5 toast, floral, brown, clear, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, light body, thin feel, average carbonation,
3.1 50cl bottle from Tesco. Medium white head. Clear amber pour. Some biscuit and a light bitterness.
3.2 Bottle at the inlaws, thanks to Roger, 29/04/18. Rich copper pour with a decent light beige head. Nose is caramel, dried fruits, biscuit, sweet malts, brown sugar. Taste comprises fruit slice, biscuit malts, brown bread, toffee, mellow spice, stewed fruits. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a mellow bitter edge. Decent enough ESB.
3.6 Beautiful ruby red beer, crystal-clear, with a weak white head and gentle bubbling. Smell is spicy malty caramel and toffeed apples. Hint of honey. Strawberries. Taste is bitter and almost salty, very refreshing. Touch of metal and slightly medicinal at the finish, with light astringency. Nice fizz.
2.9 Bottle. Deep amber pour. Thing white scummy head. Nose is nippy. A citrus tang - lemon - and some biscuity oat notes. Bitterness in the mouth, with more lemons and harsh citrus cutting through biscuity oats. A full mouth of flavour - but I'm not 100% convinced it the flavour profile I enjoy.
3.0 Bath Gem brings out everything that is great about a British ale - that malt biscuit flavour is amplified and paired with a decent hop finish. Granted, this is in the traditional style and won’t blow your head off with the hops, but it is well balanced and thoroughly enjoyable.
3.3 Malty, reddish hue with little head. Good bitter flavors. A decent English beer
