Bavik Pilaarbijter Bruin

Bavik Pilaarbijter Bruin

Dark ale, fermented in the bottle.

Inspired by a Breughel painting, “The Flemish Proverbs” (1559), in which several Flemish proverbs are depicted amongst which is the expression "He’s a pilaarbijter" ("pillar biter"), which means, ’He’s a hypocritical man.’

4.2 Nogal een donkere bruine kleur, zachte bittere smaak, voldoende schuimkraag.
3.2 Bottle 33cl. Clear medium amber brown, a lot of tiny bubbles. Large loose foamy beige head, sizzles down gradually, thin layer remains, light lacing; aroma of caramel, light fruit (pear, berries), bit nutty; taste is medium sweet and bitter, malty, bit fruity; medium body, watery to oily texture, average carbonation, aftertaste is mild sweetbitter, bit roasty in the finish; on the whole on the thin side.
3.2 Bottle - Loght sour and sweet cherry with some Woody notes. Clear copper red with a small white head. Malty with only a hint of cherry and a long finish. None of the crisp, tart or cherry notes I was hoping for. Not bad, just very plain.
3.1 Bruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is licht zoet, caramel, ietwat anijs en chokolade. Goed bier.
3.0 Red-brown liquid, average, airy head. Aroma of malt and iron. Medium body, little carbonation. Taste is sweet, a bit bitter and light.
2.8 330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. 6.5%. Pours clear chestnut brown with a short-lived off-white head. Aromas of plums, blackcurrant, dark sugar. Taste is honeyed sweet again, dark sugar. Sweet, cloying, light spicy finish.
3.4 Marron opaque avec une moyenne robe marron. L’arôme du malt caramel et un peu du fruits noir. En bouche c’est pareille. Un peu léger pour le style et bonne, mais pas trop complexe.
3.0 Bottle shared thanks to Deanso. Pours clear brown with a tan head. Aroma of overripe fruit, caramel and sweet dark fruit. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.
3.1 33cl bottle from Gouwen Aar shared with Kermis. Thick creamy off white head. Clear amber pour. An ok dubbel, nothing special.
3.1 gedronken 15/03/15@bierpunt diepenbeek coffee, grass, earthy, smoke, brown, hazy, tan foam, niet slecht
3.1 Dark amber with rich, but fastly disappearing light brown head. Wel balanced caramel sourness with bitterness, but too much watery.
3.4 Poured from 33cl bottle [bb 19/06/2015]. Medium amber colour with beige head. Caramel and sweet candied malt with ripe fruits. Standard fare, the fruit sweetness is a little lighter than usual which makes this one a little different from the typical.
3.4 Medium mokka head, dark brown colour, sweet caramel malty yeasty smell, high carbonation, yeasty medium bitter some dark fruits some coffe taste
3.1 33cl flesje bij De Gouverneur, Maastricht Alcoholpercentage van 6,5% Uitgeschonken in origineel Pilaarbijter glas Uiterlijk: amberbruin met kleine schuimkraag Aroma en smaak: donker fruit, zoetig, caramel Conclusie: dunne smaken, redelijk
2.8 Dark burgundy brown and slightly cloudy. Has a malty, roasted, oak-like taste.
2.8 Dark version of the Pilaarbijter, caramelly and clearly coloured with syrup rather than dark malts, clear bronze-like colour and malty taste with fruity sweetishness, a bit thin mouthfeel and on the bland side. Not better than the blond in my opinion.
3.1 Bottle 33cl. Dark brown with small sturdy head. Aroma is heavy and sweet. Chemical? Taste has something I can’t decipher completely. Sweetness, bitterness, but there’s also a strange aftertaste. I remembered this as a great beer, but somehow it disappoints me now.
3.1 BOTTLE 33CL from dcmchew. Thanks! Look: clear mahogany, beige frothy head. Aroma: quite simple, malty, brown sugar, very little fruitiness (pear?), no spice or hops. Taste: malty, quite sweet actually, light bitter herbal finish.
3.3 Orange brown with decent carbonation. Roasted malt, some coffee grind bitterness, burnt caramel. Not much body. Medium finish.
3.6 Een heel lekker donker bier met een goede volle smaak aan. Een aanrader om eens te proberen.
3.4 Orange brown coloured brew. Good head. Malty, lightly sweet fruity. Decent and full of taste.
2.9 Soury carmel aroma. Taste caramel, candy sugar with slightly sour aftertaste.
2.1 pours red brown with off white head. aroma is sugar and malts. taste is sugar and malts. extreamly carbonated fizzy yeasty. not so good
3.3 A 33 cl bottle from Legacy Liquor in Vancouver. A very dark reddish bronze beer with generous tan head. . Sweet, fruity and yeasty on the nose. Lots of caramelized fruits and malts on the palate. Low bitterness as expected. 3.3.
2.4 Hazelnootbruin, nevelig. Waterig, Zoet. Suiker. Mouten. Niet veel body. Kunstmatig. Niet veel bijzonders.
3.0 At first sight a bit dull. But after a few minutes it’s getting better. Roast, bit smokey, sweet honey notes, dark brown. A fine belgian style brown beer. But i wouldn’t drink so much of it that i would bite a pillar
3.0 Just a decent Belgian dubbel. Sweet, fruity and quite yeasty. Has a nice tingly mouthfeel.
1.9 roasty, earthy, leather, aromas with a massively thick head nice brown colour shows a golden hue when held up to the light, it just tastes like newcastle brown to be honest but a bit fizzier quite a cloying aftertaste i probably wouldnt go out of my way to get it. bottle from beers of europe.
3.2 Bottle 330 ml at home, poured into a tulip glass. ABV 6.5% Deep red brown colour on the body, very clear, with good activity in it. Head is beige in colour, two fingers tall, with good density and retention. A small part of it remains on the surface almostt for the whole drinking experience. Aroma has caramel, some light nutty notes, red fruits. Taste is of caramel, red fruits, light toffee, iron. Medium body, lots of fizzy carbonation, actually reducing all the flavours quite a bit. Overall: Nothing special, at moments even boring.
