Baxter Stowaway IPA

Baxter Stowaway IPA

A heavily-hopped, West Coast-style IPA. Bold, complex flavors with a solid malt backbone and assertive hop profile, along with cold conditioning give this beer its crisp, clean finish.

3.3 Had this can on the top of Cadillac mountian with John, Anne and Patty. Golden amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is melon, tangerine, straw, hop. Taste comprises citric pith, mandarin, tangerine, straw. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, juicy hop bitterness in the close. Decent enough IPA.
4.2 Nice copper/caramel color with a malty/citrusy nose. Fairly bold flavors of grapefruit and other citrus, along with some malt in a well-balanced and refreshing manner. Hoppy bitterness remains on the finish.
3.6 Where and how: big trip East Coast 2017 on tap at Bar Harbor Aromaold school IPA in approach, zesty with citrus fruits, fragrant with balancing sweetness behind. Appearance : Top: medium white top, some lace on glass. Base: amber Palate : medium plus bodied, average carbonation. Long finish. Taste: plenty of substance, solid malt hop play. Nice hop profile, green, tad funky. Very tasty ale.
3.8 12 ounce can. Amber orange color. Small foamy white head. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor upfront hints at pecan and brown sugar. Peppery hops in middle. Dry biitter hop finish. Some warming alcohol.
3.1 Clear orange from the can. Aroma is citrus forward with a bit of herbal.floral aroma and pine nose and flavor. Mostly citrus though with moderate bitterness. Average or near it across the board.
3.0 Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can poured into a cup. Clear small head. Aroma is herbal hops, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing.
3.6 A robust and spicy IPA with earthy notes, pine, spice, floral, citrus and malt. A nice treat being that it’s almost 7% but truly doesn’t feel it. Citra hop and pine with
3.3 Resiny pine aroma. Pours a clear orange with a rocky white head. Lacing. Dry flavors that are quite astringent. Lacquer and turpentine but not overbearing. Long finish and mderate carbonation. It’s doing its own thing but \doing it pretty well.
3.5 Gravity Cask Third of a Pint at GBBF 2015, Olympia, London Aug 2015 - Dark Amber in colour. Good off-white head. Some lacing. Fruity; grapefruit citrus and some tropical fruit. Hoppy; piney resinous hops, well hopped. Malty; sweet biscuity malts, caramel. Good fruit/hop/malt balance. Bittersweet citrus fruity and hoppy throughout. Very dry bitter hoppy finish. Nice IPA! 3.1 Draft at Bull Feeneys. Pours dark gold with a thin white head. Leaves trace lacing in the glass. Not a lot on the nose. Has some grapefruit elements on the tongue. Finished clean. Solid example of a west coast IPA except for the lack of pungency in the nose.
3.6 Hazy amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, floral/pine hops, some caramel, & citrus; Flavor of malt, pine hops, caramel, and citrus; Finish is bitter; Nicely balanced; Classic stuff - pretty decent.
3.6 This brew is a clear dark copper color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Stringy lacing. Citrus, hops and malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of grapefruit, hops and caramel malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a fruity hop aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.4 Can from Table and Vine. Bright clear copper with lasting head and lace. Pine spice and toffee aroma bready aroma. Sweet toffee peach lightly toasted nutz with fairly assertive herbal pine bitterness. Medium body slightly sticky. This would have been all the rage in 1998. Decent enough, but not decent enough for me to want another when I have a fridge full of really excellent IPAs.
3.0 draft at Ginger Man Boston. Dark orange with a firm head. Pine and malts in the nose. Really malty mouthfeel with sticky notes. Not good
3.6 Thanks to @RunningNoleFan down at Proof Production Facility. Clear, bright citrine. Good can. Candied, caramel, citrusy aroma. Sturdy, citric bittering, pithy, lightly sweet but mostly dry. Some woody tones. Medium body. Solid. Hermine aftermath. Power still on at Proof.
3.3 Drank from can. Loads of pine and grapefruit with hints of caramel and biscuit. Juicy oily mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
3.8 Crisp, slightly hazy golden and lightly copper body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of fresh hops, pine, citrus, resin and dank hops all with a touch of sweetness noticeable in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive fresh hop flavour with a lot of grass, hay, pine, grapefruit and very pungent citrus flavours, all with a well supportive malt backbone and some sweetness from apricot and peaches. Aftertaste is well-balanced with a great fresh hop flavour, but an equally present malt and sweetness that shows very well throughout. Overall, a very nice IPA with a great profile and amazing balance - surprising and delicious! Great to sample, given this is my first trip to Maine and I was able to find this at a 7-11! I sampled this twelve ounce can next door to my hotel at a 7-11 in Portland, Maine, available as a single can for US$2,29 sampled in my hotel room a few minutes later on 28-July-2016.
3.8 On draft. I had no expectations, but this still surprised me. The base beer is clean and neutral and allows the hop profile to dominate. The hops are mostly pine, although there was some resin and citrus too. Nothing crazy, just a very well done West Coast IPA.
3.6 16oz at Mei Mei pours a clear amber with some frothy, white head. Nose has the classic IPA character, orange rind, grapefruit, mild herbs, a little grist. Flavor has orange and grapefruit, herbs, some cracker, biscuit. Dry finish.
2.6 This is a copper color brew with a bitter aspirin flavor. It smells like woody pine and aside from being heavy and sweet there is nothing else wrong with it.
3.1 Served on tap at the holiday inn. Clear Amber red color with an off white head. Malt hops aroma. Basic malt hops flavor. Medium body. Simple IPA.
3.0 12 oz can shared by a friend, thanks Mike! Canned in October 2015 if I read the dating correctly, must have been sitting in the liquor store. Clear amber orange with off-white head. Aromas of caramel, malt, floral notes, toasty notes. Tastes of malt, caramel, toast, biscuit, light citrus. Medium body with a dry finish.
2.2 Drank from a pint glass poured from a twelve ounce can. Thank you KevDawg! Not a fan of this IPA, all I taste are hops, where my malts!?
4.2 Can pour into nonic pint glass from Julio’s Liquors. Aroma is strong fruit and citrus. Appearance is beautiful, clear, dark copper with minimal attractive sparkle, two-finger width fluffy white head after aggressive pour and nice sudsy lacing. Taste is surprisingly forward sweet malt (mainly caramel) with fruit and citrus with bitter ending. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin, slightly sticky texture, average carbonation (could be a tad more) and bitter, dry, crisp finish. Overall, this is a nice IPA. Good West Coast flavor without getting overly bitter. Surprising amount of malt in the flavor.
4.0 Great IPA! I love it. Drinkable. Even drunk. I love it . Great substance and great IPA stuff.
3.5 APPEARANCE- light amber with a golden hue, head pours perfectly white and laces nicely. NOSE- Light aroma of fruity hop. just the right amount. FLAVOR- strongly resinous flavors abound, but do not overpower my tastebuds. Enough fruitiness in the hop to keep it light. NOTES- really well balanced ipa.
3.7 Can. Pours bright, clear orange with a large and dense beige head. Very mild nose sweet and candyish with raw hap/vegetal undertones. Taste bone-dry with a little orangey-crystal flitting in the background, not particularly juicy but with mild resin, chewy medium caramel, and earth and soap. Does remind of the IPAs of a decade ago, though with only medium bitterness and slightly oilier (no brutality offered here). Very smooth fullish body, hop aromatics are dead by this point but their beautiful oils remain (especially orange, tangerine, very light pineapple). Clean and palate cleansing with no apparent alcohol, very pleasant if a little bland, a great choice for a summer on the pier or trail. Very nice. [2015.12.27: 3.7] Fresh cans from the sampler box. Yup! The citrus fruit reminds very much of Two-Hearted, especially in combination with the strong pine. A good one. [2017.10.16: 3.7]
3.3 355 ml can. Pours a clear pale amber orange with a resilient white head. Aroma is caramel, roast and grass. Flavor is caramel and roast, with some grass, grapefruit, lemon and lime in the finish. Medium body, average carbonation.
4.2 Smells of pineapple mango pine resin for the nice malt almost caramel backdrop. It’s got a perfect gold amber color to it. Taste flood your mouth tropical fruits and a strong pine resin finish nice malt backbone to smooth out all the hops. Nice carbonation perfect for this beer. Baxter’s always making good stuff keep up the good work.
3.3 Cask gravity @ GBBF 2015. Pours a hazy orange color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity citrus hoppy aroma. Fruity malty citrus hoppy flavor. Has a fruity malty citrus hoppy finish.
