Bayerischer Bahnhof Berliner Style Weisse

Bayerischer Bahnhof Berliner Style Weisse

Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin.

Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity.

Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

2.5 Bottle share on the 42nd as ’Bayerischer Bahnhof Berliner Style Weisse’, 3.0%. Many thanks to Scopey. Very pale yellow, clear, lightly sparkling, foamy white head, full lacing. Aroma is apple peel, papery, some toffee. Body is light, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is thin apple, salt water, some citrus peel, cracker malts, soft sourness, a little oxidised. Not great. (2.5)

2.4 Straw blond with no head. This one has a weird taste. Soapy. Salty. Really thin and watery texture.
3.6 Bottle @ LIBF’16. Shared with the RB Belgian team. Couleur dorée, persque transparente, birch sap water, col minime blanc.
2.8 On tap a Global Brew. Pours a hazy very pale yellow with a medium white head. Taste is pale wheat malt, some sweetness, but primarily mildly sour. Mild fruitiness comes through a bit. Almost like champagne.
3.5 On tap. Pours a light gold with a foamy white head and an aroma of tart fruit and a small amount of funk. The flavor is slightly sweet tropical fruit with a tart finish over a light body.
2.2 5th April 2016 42nd Floor Tasting. Thanks to Paul. Almost clear gold beer, thin pale cream colour head. Palate is light and dry, modest fine carbonation. Dirty dry stale start, a little lemon zing lifts it but then it a dusty and woody finish, dry. Bleh!

Overall, too sweet

3.6 Bottle courtesy of Thirstybird and very kindly shared with a few Rbeerians at Merton Beer Festival, Saturday 27th February 2016, cheers Rian This pours light lemony pale gold with a white head that swiftly subsided, a slight haze. I know from a big discussion on one of the Forums that some folk were suggesting you cannot detect sour on the nose as it is a flavour indicator, well I say bollocks coz I get a sourness on the nose here it is a fruity, citrussy lighter variant of the vinegar sournessy that sees the nostrils flare and you recoil a touch, it is clean, refreshing and spritzy sourness, and as this is the only way I can describe it this is what I will stick with. These characteristics transfer seamlessly into the flavour department, bit funky also, really refreshing, tart, tangy, a good workout for the tastebuds and a good inbetweener and palate cleanser, more suited for a summers day but I like it regardless. 3.4 Bottle from Thirstybird. Thanks Rian. Clear very pale gold. Sour lemon aroma with a touch of woody funk. Yes some good lemon .good character. But fizzy. Good. Tasty Lemon Sour And Some juiciness
3.6 Aroma - chardonnay like vinous nature Appearance - body is a clean light yellow. Head is white and about 1/2" and fades fast. Taste - tart with a blend of straw, some peach, lime, and champagne yeast. Palate - body is medium, texture is dry and slightly vinous, the carbonation is lively, the finish is mega tart it engulfs the upper front gums with pure pucker. Truly unique!
3.6 Bottle from Gulating Strømmen enjoyed at home Pale yellow, big white head. Smell of yoghurt, lemon, light malts. Light sweet, tart lemon, medium sour, lactic acids, light malts, quite refreshing. Well balanced up
3.0 Bottle. Very lightly colored. Almost like clear dishwater and suds like dishwater. Aroma is kind of lemony. Taste is like unsweetened green apples. But it’s still good.
3.3 Bottle: Clear light gold color, lots of bubbles and a short lived white head. The nose is fresh and sweet; it smells a bit like sparkling cider. The taste is surprisingly sour up front, a little bit of green apple, and a sour dry finish. There is some dainty fruit in there, but really quite sour. Good think it was 3% abv cause it went down quick.
3.4 05.12.2015, tap @ Smelteverket: Tiny shortlasting head, very light color. Aroma is mild sour-ish, unripe berries, soda powder, minerals, citrus, hay, raw rhubarb, citrus acid. Taste is slightly sour-ish dry, soda powder, hay, sorrel, citrus acid, grass, unripe berries. Medium bitterness, slightly dry and watery mouthfeel. Nice enough, very clean and easy drinking.
3.3 Pours a cloudy, dark golden yellow color with a two finger frothy white head that quickly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Sporadic spotty lacing left behind. Slightly must aroma with a decent balance of musty funk, sweet citrus and bready yeast. Smells a bit tame for the style with faint lactic funk countered by citrus peel, lemon juice, zesty spice, pale malt and sourdough bread. Medium bodied and thankfully more interesting than the aroma suggests with a nice balance of funk and citric acidity. It’s still light and pretty tame for the style but you can at least pick up the wheat beer characteristics. Only slightly tart with more of a lactic presence than expected countered by sweet citrus, bready yeast and mild spicy. Faint peppery clove flavor countered by hints of lemon juice and sourdough bread. Not too exciting but well balance, clean, crisp and refreshing.
3.3 Bottle fro, Whole Foods PM. Pours hazy, dull gold with 2-finger, frothy off-white head. Nose is lactic acid, tart fruit, some earthy and cobwebby esters. Tastes very tart, lemony, lactic acidic, with some earthy and more fruit notes as it warms.
3.7 Spin a@ scurreria. Chiara con bella schiuma. Acidula, lemongrass, bella leggera e rinfrescante.
3.5 Berliner Style Weisse has a thick, white, fizzy head, an initially clear, pale, straw appearance, with some lazy bubbles, that turns into a gray-lemon-yellow opaque number, once the caked sediment is swished loose and poured in. Lacing is practically non-existent. The aroma is of sweet, fruity, citrus wedding cake icing and cream. Taste is of tart Halloween semi-soft candy, cream, and sourdough bagel. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Berliner Style Weisse finishes crisp and lemony. RJT
3.2 Cloudy straw yellow. Nose of wheat, lemon. Taste follows with light tart sour mash flavors and long wheat finish. Alright but too much wheat for me.
3.3 Bottle from Gulating Larvik. Pours hazy weak golden with a big creamy white head. Good weak tarty aroma, citrus with lemon in the front seat. Taste is tarty lemonade from start till finish.
3.0 On tap at Nocturnem. Pours very pale with a thin white head. Not my favorite style but it hit the spot at the time. Lemon up front, very tart but the finish was a little dryer making it more drinkable.
3.4 Bottle at Øltorget, april 3rd 2015. Clear light yellow body with a fizzy white head. Aroma is tart with bread and citrus fruits. Taste of lemon peels, wheat, sour and dry. Fresh acidic finish without being extreme. A nice sessionable berliner.
3.6 11.2 oz (really? looks alot smaller) from the Coop over the weekend for about $5. Poured into my New Belgium snifter. 1" head dies back to just a collar and no lacing atop a very clear wit colored brew... very light... Aroma is "wheaty" with a little bit of sour.. more grainy than anything. Flavor puts a couple punctuation marks on the aroma.. soft pale malts are punted through the uprights by the abundant lemon. I don’t really know what to say about this brew.. reminds me of green tea and lemonade without the sweetness.... drinkability is off the charts especially when it is still hot as can be at 1:00 am in Boise. Drinkable without being watery.. Body is light as expected.. but I am still a huge fan.
2.6 Lys gul noe tåkete med fingerhøyt hvitt skum. Lukter smørmaltdrops. Veldig syrlig smak mot grønne epler. Medium lang syrlig ettersmak.
3.5 Cloudy , yellow color . Aroma of lemon , wheat , yeast, tartness. Sour , yeasty taste. Refreshing and easy to drink .
3.6 Bottle pours out a hazy straw topped with a small white head. Nose is sour tartness sourdough bread and honey. Taste is more of the tart honey sweetness and some bread.
