Beachwood / Heretic / Stone Unapologetic IPA

Beachwood / Heretic / Stone Unapologetic IPA

When you get three hopheads together to collaborate on a beer, it’s only natural to expect some hopped up liquid incarnation of their lupulin lust to spring forth from such a session. Maybe it seems passé to some—three masters of hoppy beer once again exploring the familiar territory of the India pale ale. After all, who needs yet another IPA, double or otherwise, right? It’s all been done. To those who feel this way, this trio’s reply is: “So what?” In birthing a double IPA made bitter and fruity care of a mélange of new and experimental hops (Azacca, Belma, and yet-to-be-named varieties from Washington’s Yakima Valley), they aren’t staying in a comfort zone—they’re hitting a sweet spot in the name of all that is good, delicious, hoppy and forward-thinking to create an IPA that’s both like and unlike anything they, or you, have ever tasted. Rife with essence of pine, resin, and fruits both citrus and tropical, there’s no need for apologies with this beer. All that’s necessary is a yearning for hops, a sturdy constitution and an empty glass.

4.7 This is - or was, as most of this is from old notes - a super mango and grapefruit hob bomb, with plenty of pine and sweet malts for balance. Intense and one of my all-time favourite beers. So glad an updated version is coming this summer.
3.6 Sampled July 2014 A steady pour into my Sierra Nevada IPA glass produces a three-finger thick, pale tan colored head that leaves some nice lacing on the sides of my glass. The beer is a rich copper hue that shows a brilliantly clear, almost metalic, bright copper / gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma has a nice mix of hoppy fruit and herbal notes to it; specifics of guava, lychee, candied tangelo zest, lots of floral tropical fruit, as well as lighter notes of pine, woody herbs, a touch of pepper character. A fuller mouthfeel easily characters an explosive hop fruitiness up front that ends with a lingering bitter, and herbal note. Ample guava, lots of lychee, bright kumquat zest, floral peach nectar, and spicy tropical fruit notes that moves into peppery notes that have a grassy, herbal edge that has a touch of hemp, spicy pine, mentholated rosemary, and concentrated herbal sap that provides quite a bit of spice character here. There is a touch of warming alcohol to the finish that accentuates the spicy and herbal notes. The body is just light enough to not be too much, it definitely has some chewiness and viscosity to it, but in the end the bitter herbal hops are able to thin things out in the finish. Definitely a tasty IPA, this is definitely on the big side for me, a bit more and I would say it was too much.
3.4 Bottle from SJ. Orange pour, with notes of caramel malt, pine, citrus. Finish was pine and grapefruit. The body was medium...good overall.
3.3 Orange color with am attractive sticky of white head. Nose of pine and oxidized hops. This bottle says July 15 of 14 as the bottle date even though I bought it today. Flavors of old grapefruit, card board and pine over a thick caramel sweetness and doughy breadiness. I was hoping for more from this but this bottle seems lacking in the hop department.
4.6 Aroma makes this beer as most of stones do. Aroma is a bunch of grapefruit and lemon citrus. Malt back is evident even thigh it is hop forward. Really great collab!
4.0 22 oz bomber served in a tulip glass. Pours hazy golden orange with medium thick fluffy white head. Aroma is light caramel malt, and juicy floral light citrusy hops. Taste is lightly sweet malt, then big juicy citrusy hops. Some pleasant resiny and lightly dank flavor there, but the citrus notes dominate. Some grapefruit but mostly orange, tangerine, and a bit of lemon. Slight lingering bitterness before finishing clean. Just another outstanding DIPA from Stone and Friends...
3.9 On tap at Lord Hobo, Boston. Pours hazy golden with white head. Fruity juicy piney hop aroma. Fruity, citrus, hoppy, zesty, caramel. Lasting bitter finish.
4.2 Это пиво вкусное. я, конечно, рекомендую его всем, что любит хорошую Craft пива!
3.3 bottle. Pale golden with one finger head. Tastes like an average big IPA. Solidly constructed, but the hops are more bitter than flavorful. Booze is present, but not in your face. I have high hopes from Stone, and this didn’t quite deliver.
3.7 Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and light summer fruit aroma. Grapefruit and light tropical fruit flavor with light pine. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Tropical fruit and summer fruit linger with grapefruit.
2.7 quite dense ivorywhite head that leaves structured lacing. pisyellow colour. aroma is bit garlicky and onionlike, picking up little more. taste very pronounced unpleasant bitterness, sweetish taste is a very long bitter aftertaste. medium body and carbonation. hmmm ... bottle 65cl
2.9 Pours a very clear dull golden color with a sticky white head and lacing. A very off strong bitter taste which over powers everything else. Not very drinkable at all. I was not the biggest fan.
3.5 [6912-20141114] Bottle. Orange hops and evergreen aroma. Hazy, orange body with a quick foamy white head. More hoppy orange and pine notes in the flavour. Medium body is a little boozy. Good. (7/3/8/3/14) 3.5
3.9 bottle - Pours lightly hazy orange with an aroma of citrus and pine hops. It’s extremely bitter as one would expect from the style and has a good solid malt body to balance it. Nothing really jumps out at me as being unique despite the new hop varieties, but it’s another good IIPA from Stone.
4.1 Poured from the bomber into the pint glass, nice looking orange with a fresh smell. The world can always use another IPA when it is done correctly like this one. Put it in a six pack for $12- and there will be no need to apologize to anyone.
3.5 Draft at Omaha Tap House. Pours a clear, light golden color with a frothy white head. Strong hoppy aroma but that’s about it. Thick, hoppy taste with some lingering citrus. Pretty good but could be a tab better.
3.6 Bomber. Pours a slightly veiled pale golden with a short lived white head. Aroma is herbs, tropical fruit. Flavor is fruits, pineapple, grapefruit, orange, passionfruit. Finish is loads of tropical fruits, nice bitterness, dry and fruity. Lingering soft fruit bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.3 Clear golden pour, soft white head. Kind of a musty hop with some orange underneath. Bitter, light palate and overall kind of murky. Not sure I would look for this again.
3.5 Bottle pour clear avg gold with moderate white head. Nose dank hop predominantes with orange undertones. Taste big bitter bite up front then dank hop flavors. Some citrus. Mid palate light grainy malt. Longer bitter finish.
4.1 Clear golden color with medium tan head. Citrus, orange and pine hop profile with a nice malt and alcohol nose. Finishes with nice bitterness.

3.8 Pours a hazy light orange color with a nice head. The aroma has tropical fruits with pineapple, orange and mangos. Taste has orange zest, lemon and some maltiness. Long finish.
3.5 Appearance: light gold very clear color, has a thick beige head that settles into a nice density, laces nicely and the head lasts Aroma: grass, pine, some alcohol hues, smells good if faint under this thick head Taste: strong bitterness throughout and especially on the finish, citrus, alcohol Palate: heavy mouthfeel, average carbonation, very strong bitter aftertaste Overall: this is a very bitter beer, it's pretty good too, some alcohol that mostly comes thru as spice
3.8 Bottle, thanks to wittales. Slightly hazy bronze pour with white head. Aroma is citrus heavy, backdrop of urine and cotton candy sweetness. Moderately sweet taste, appropriately bitter finish. Medium body, average carbonation, oily texture. Overall: this is a nice one. Doesn’t stand out in any particular way, but way nice.
4.1 Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus and Niels. Clear orange color, medium sized white head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, nicely fruity, resin, piney, a light hint of grapefruit, good hoppyness. Taste malts, resin, pine, grapefruit, bitter hops, fruit hops, bitterness. Medium body and carbonation. If you don’t like resin and pine you shouldn’t order this one.
3.7 Bottle @ benzai. Clear golden colour with a medium sized white head. Smells hopa, fresh, green, nice. Tastes bitter, hops, grassy, malts. Medium to full body, very bitter, nice carbo.
4.4 Foggy deep yellow, pillowy head, curtains of lace. Hops! As soon as I uncap the bottle, glorious scents leap forth… once poured, I am entertained by piney/woody, resiny, citric, and buttery cookie dough aromas. Further introspection reveals suggestions of smoke and baking spice. Fruity and bitter in flavor, resplendently hoppy, bready malt, peachy. Sharp and fluffy with carbonation. Clean herbal finish. Finally, an appropriately-hopped DIPA!
3.6 Poured from a bottle it is a clear golden color with a slight head. The aroma is citrus and the taste is bitter with strong accents of orange
3.7 From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a hazy gold with an off white head. Surprisingly malty nose. Flavors of grass and pine resin with some citrus notes. Bitter finish.
