3.422 oz bottle, pours a cloudy amber color with moderate off-white head. Sweet caramel, orange, full body with lots of hoppy bitterness.
3.7Orange and papaya nose. Cloudy orange, slow building thick yellow head, nice lacing. Orange and lemongrass. Medium body, easy carbonation.
3.9Got this from the mothership itself, this brewery was one of those that I visited while on a beer tour to Santa Rosa. I was the first person to get inside the brewery restaurant, either 10 or 11 am and asked for their best seasonal and got this. Pours an ambery orange, frothy head that dissipates in a moment. Aromas of pine and tropical fruits, the way an imperial IPA should smell. It is very drinkable with everything an Imperial IPA should be: potent but in equilibrium.
Great beer; glad I bought a bomber to take home.
3.9Nice orange color with a lasting white foam. Aroma of oranges and tangerine. Smooth bitterness for 100 IBU. Taste is resinous orange peel and grapefruit.
3.0Amber/orange with a dense cream colored head.Herbal, floral aroma. Light sweetness, medium to heavy bitterness. Earthy but with a little oxidation-like flavor (cardboard) in the finish.
3.9On tap @ Rattle N Hum. Oh, it’s a sweet nose in this. Sweet like in good-sweet. It’s a cloudy honey colored one this, a medium sized slowly islandy just off-white head on the top. It’s really tropical and fresh piney in the nose. No doubt that it’s a double IPA I’m nosing. Pineapple, mango, peaches, melon, soft zesty and grapefruit. Really good stuff. Tastes just as good as it smells. Thick and oily, almost a little syrupy on the taste and it’s about average and prickling on the bubbles. Fruity and kinda sweetish, then a massive hoppy sensation kicks you in the teeth. Sticky and really berry concentrated with pine cones and a little warming alcohol all the way in the finish. Really good. 17.06.2015
3.7Nice golden medium brown appearance, solid lacing... Aroma and tastes of hops, tropical fruit. Smooth for the ABV. Good beer.
3.7Sporo cytrusów i słodkich owoców w aromacie, podobnie w smaku, chociaż z przewagą cytrusów. Goryczka wysoka, ale przyjemna. Dobre piwo.
3.6Tap at bulldog downtown with commonmac. Light copper with medium white head. Resin hop aroma. Taste is resin hop. Better version of the run of the mill ipa, but nothing super unique.
3.6Golden orange with thick head. Fruity, juicy aroma of orange and citrus fruit. Really hop forward but a good amount of malt keeping things in check. Bitter on the tongue but easy drinking. Hides alcohol well. Really good
3.1Tap at Sedona. Golden. Taste is slightly sweet orange candy. Fruity as hell, too candylike.
3.8Bottle. The pour is a golden orange. The aroma is full of fruity hops. The taste is big and bold. Not overly bitter, but full of hops. Nice drinking beer.
3.9On tap at Stanley’s in NE Mpls. 12oz pour in snifter glass. Full finger white head. Golden and orange hues blend together to give that color you expect from a double IPA. Nose leans hard on traditional hop characteristics with some good pine resin and citrus aspects. Taste has a healthy dose of citrus coming through as grapefruit and a lingering bitterness. You can tell they went for a full on hop forward double IPA echoing what Stone has always prided themselves. It’s a heavy hop hitter and definitely impacts the palette. Very good for this type of style. Almost reaches the apex but falls ever so slightly short.
3.7Aroma is slightly dulled hops, with citrus grapefruit and earthy notes. Taste is hop forward followed by a happier finish. Nice solid IPA.
3.5Pours a caramel golden with a short white head. Sweet orange, circus peanut, and sweet grain nose. Flavors closely approximate the nose.
4.222 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 10/20/2016. Pours hazy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon/orange peel, pine, light caramel, toasted biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon/orange peel, pine, light caramel, toasted biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon/orange rind, pine, toasted biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding DIPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
4.1Nice two inch thick head of fine and dense bubbles from a somewhat vigorous pour. Fruity aroma with some pineapple, roasted grains, sea spray and some light spicy hops. Color is a dark amber. Wow, very smooth on the palate and goes down effortlessly. Toasted grains, tea leaves, herbal hops, light sweetness for balance and a hint if bitter/acidic nuts late swallow. Light alcohol presence with a somewhat more pronounced warming. Finishes lingering bitterness and dryness. A pretty damn tasty and well balanced IIPA. Good stuff from Bear Republic!
4.3Top 5 IPA for me here. Pours a cloudy amber color. Aroma of juicy fresh hops - grapefruit, pine, and some tropical fruits. Perfect mouthfeel and bitterness. Reminds me of the OG Ruination very much. They absolutely nailed this one. The perfect west coast IPA. Will buy if I can locate it again.
3.74th August 2016
Very hazy orange - amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and has a fine minerally crispness. Light malts, pleasant light sweetness. Decent hop spice into cooling pine. Little fresh orange and tangerine and their respective peel. FInishes fairly dry and pithy. It’s a decent DIPA for sure but there are many better around.
3.7Draft. Golden amber pour, decent westcoaster here, firm bitterness, not too malty, citrus and pine hops.
3.7Cloudy amber, moderate to large head, good lace/retention. Aroma is grapefruit, citrus, pine, caramel, textbook. Medium bodied, moderate to high bitterness. Well made but nothing new.
3.9Pours a deep dark orangish amber color. Aromas of big hop action, sweet malts, and more hops. Flavor has some caramel malty tastes with nice grapefruit and floral hop taste.
4.0Bottle 65cl / Botella 65cl.
@ Supermercado Lucky, San Bruno, CA, USA
A: Light amber / Ambar claro.
T/S: Hops, fruity, slightly malty / Lupulo, afrutado, ligeramente a malta.
3.6Poured from a bottle. Clear golden color, large off white head. Sweet floral hops aroma. Medium body with a sweet hops flavor and medium finish.
3.9Pours a bright, light golden color with a thick head of foam. The sticky, white bubbles last for some time. The aroma is floral, fruity hops on top of a pleasantly sweet malt backdrop. Pine sap, apricot, orange, from the hops. The malt adds honey and caramel to the mix. The taste starts off with pale malt sweetness before those floral-citrus hop flavors take over. The finish is lightly sweet with some light hop bitterness. It’s definitely hop flavor over bitterness, but there is a grassy bitter note in the finish to clean things up. Feel is relatively light with a lot of hop oiliness, smooth and slightly sticky.
3.3Pours amber cloudy with thick head from bomber. Smell is malty with slight citrus. Well balanced not overly bitter and doesn’t taste boozy like a lot of doubles.
4.5Poured from a 22oz bomber bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Orange in color, slightly opaque. Decent head with good lacing. Aroma is a balance between citrus and sweetness. As for the taste I have two words... Phe - nomenal. The feel on the palate is medium and much lighter than expected for an 8.25 ABV double IPA.
3.5Large Format - Real cloudy orange yet I don’t believe it is an unfiltered beer. Large thick head that sticks around. Slight citrus flavor on the back of the palate, dry bitterness on the front of the palate.
3.7651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, tiny bubbled, ivory head, with heavy lacing, over a slightly hazy, tiny particle laden, amber (SRM 10) body......nose is light pine, resin, licorice, fruits from the hops, cereal from the malts, balance to the hops.....taste is sweet with licorice, pine, resin, pineapple, leading to a pine, resin bitter finish, balanced back by the floral sweetness.....mouth feel, heavy of medium body, sticky, alcohol present, carbonation high adding an occasional creamy note. This is delicious, well done beer, with great hop complexity. Now, it is time, to critique. It is definitely sweet, and the sweetness is toward the floral honey, simple sugar end of the spectrum. It lacks the toffee/caramel notes from other points of the malts. The hops were deftly handled. This would not be a good beer to have in a Utah desert on a summer day, as it is too rich, but on a cold night, a different result. A change in the malts, with the goal of greater attenuation, to decrease sweetness, perhaps more caramel/crystal would work towards an even better beer. BJCP 9/2/16/4/8
3.8On tap poured into a tulip glass..copper pour with a fluffy white head..big hoparoma along with some caramel..resinous,piney,sticky mouthfeel..good stuff.
