Bear Republic Café Racer 15

Bear Republic Café Racer 15

Café Racer 15™ features aromas of bright citrus and resinous pine from the generous use of Citra, Amarillo, Cascade and Chinook hops which are complimented by a dry malt finish. The result is a high revving Double IPA that is loud and assertive, much like the rebellious street racers who inspired it. Never ride alone...

3.7 Hazy, orange-golden colored, small off white head. Aroma is of some malt and caramel, medium+ pine and citrus hops. Taste is medium+ sweet malt, some caramel, medium+ hoppy citrus grapefruit and pine, medium+ bitterness, dry finish, somewhat boozy. Medium+ bodied, soft carbonation, oily to resiny.
4.8 strong, assertive hops, balanced by citrus and just a bit of fruity floral notes, which together make one great, bold taste journey while hiding virtually every bit of that 9.75ABV
4.0 12 ounce bottle. Hazy gold color. Small creamy white head. Dank resiny hops in nose. Malty caramel notes as well. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor. Bold hop profile in middle. Dank citrus and resiny pine. Spicy hops in finish. Outstanding.
4.1 Love this dipa ! Excellent example of a great west coast dipa, takes me right back to 2012 in LA trying this for the first time, and in the process discovering a love for great ales. Fantastic nose of malts, citrus and pine. taste is very similar big malts, citrus, pine, grapefruit, nice bitter finish with a little booziness. Did I say I love this!
4.1 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings around the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, light pepper, pine, honey, caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, light pepper, pine, honey, caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, pepper, pine, honey, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, fairly sticky, and slightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 9.75% after the finish. Overall this is an awesome DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; Very smooth and dangerously easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Very juicy and fairly dank balanced hop complexity, with a nice dark/bready malt backbone. Not overly sweet/heavy for the ABV. A really enjoyable offering as expected.
4.0 Bottle sampled from a glass, this ale was a medium gold with some dark yellow in the glass, there was a bit of haze, and it had a white and faint off-white cover of bubbles that was lasting, nice lacing, the nose had aromas of grapefruit, orange and pine hops, the hops had a little guava ad a hint of herb, some toasted malt, malt and fruit sweetness, this big IPA had flavors of citrus hops - grapefruit, lemon and guava, toasted malt, orange fruit, malt sweetness, there was a good hop bitterness at the finish, the citrus hops lingered on the tongue, this drink had a medium-full mouth feel, it was creamy and had soft to average carbonation, there were a bit more hops than malt in this drink, hops were big on the nose and flavor, a nice drink.
3.8 Aroma is citrus and spicy/dank hops. The flavor is citrus, mild fruit, malts, grapefruit and a spicy/creeping bitter finish.
4.0 Killer DIPA, a massive dose of good ol' West Coast bitterness mixed with juicy citrus and oh so much pine. Caramel toast malt base gives plenty of leeway for the hops to get crazy, which they do accordingly and with reckless abandon. Waves of orange, lemon, and grapefruit, backed up by subtle melon and earthy notes, all leading to a clingy, angry, viciously bitter finish. Pours orange-gold with a thin white head and ample lacing. Nose is classic Pacific Northwest pine-and-caramel IPA goodness. Lovely texture is full and lacking the slightest bit of boozy heat. (You could learn something here, Undercover Shutdown Ale.) Damn fine pint.
3.2 From tap. Pours cloudy orange. Small white head. Aroma is herbal. Toasted. Dry, bitter and herbal. Bitter, herbal nd toasted. Dry hoppy. Bitter and dry herbal finish.
3.6 Draft at Lakeside. Orange golden body, small foamy head. Bready, malty aroma. Taste brings sharp, spicy hops, kind if fruity too. I was put off by the cafe in the name, no coffee at all. Hoppy DIPA.
4.0 65cl Bottle @ Tanakaya Liquor Store, Tokyo, Japan. Amber colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, hops, pine, tropical fruits. Taste is malt, caramel, hops, grapefruit, resin, alcohol. Medium to full body, soft carbonation.
4.1 Orange brown pour, slight finger of off white. Nose is alcohol and orange zest. Bitter. Middle is marmalade, cedar, chewy malt. Finish is bitter and lasting. Yup.
3.9 12oz bottle pours a hazy golden light amber. Full sandy head and spotty lacing. Big fresh up front piney hop aromas. Resinous and citrusy flavors. Dry full flavored and pithy. Big beer with great hop flavors.
3.4 A hazed orange DIPA with a thick frothy lacing off white head. In aroma, nice caramel malt with treacle, resinous and piney hops, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, sweet fruity caramel malt with resinous floral hops, light citrus pulp, alcohol warmth, a bit tired. Bottle bought in Oct. 2013.
3.7 On tap at RateBeer Best. Pours a hazy orange gold with medium frothy white head that lasts. The aroma is strong grass, dank, onion. Medium body, dank, grapefruit, pine, lingering resin finish, very good.

4.3 Spot on IPA lots of flavor. Sweet citrus and enjoyable. Very thin fading head. Malt sweet and hop candy. Orange red appearance. Nice!
3.9 On tap at Red Cow North Loop. Pours a clear gold with a copper hue and a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a lot of pine with some resin, grapefruit, a hint of onion and a sweet grain backbone. Flavor has a nice combination of pine, grapefruit and sweet grains with a resinous bite underlying.
3.6 Light citrus aromas. Decent head. Hop forward, citrusy, piney finish. Finishes clean
2.9 Bottle. Nose rindy, lemon with caramel and grapefruit, very lean tropical. Pour opaque but rich, glowing golden with some mild orange mixed in, a creamy-rocky white head. Taste sweet with a strong alcoholic element, slight oil and medium resin; pine, herbal, caramel, vanilla, mint, sugary, medium bitterness, clean but not particularly attractive. Very full body, just a bit too much, and that holds for the whole -- bold flavors but slapped together and close to clashing. [2017.04.03: 2.9]
4.2 Orange/amber in the glass, looks tasty, with a subtle citrus and hops aroma. Tastes of citrus and caramel, very nice. From a bottle in my cellar. Definitely have to get this excellent beer again soon.
4.0 Pours a cloudy amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of citrus hops and caramel malts with a hint of alcohol. Flavor is strong of the citrus hops up front but finished with a nice blend of the caramel malts.
3.9 Draft pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of pine, citrus and floral notes. Taste is citrus, caramel and grains.
3.7 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a snifter. Translucent cloudy orange with medium white head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is citrus/herbal hops, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is citrus hops, herbal hops, and pine hops. Nice beer.
3.3 On tap at busters, pours a lightly Hazy orange copper with a medium khaki head. Sweet malt and hop aroma, citrus and tropical. Some bitter sweet fruity hops with, caramel malt. Meh, doesn’t separate itself from many similar DIPAs.
3.1 High in alcohol, which I like. The taste isn’t great, but damn if it isn’t strong.
3.7 Pours cloudy orange with minimal head. Strong aroma of hops and citrus. Strong hops upfront with a sweet, creamy taste in the back. A little too sweet. Tap.
4.3 12-ounce bottle poured into glass, producing minimal white head with no lacing. Cloudy golden-orange color. Aroma is pineapple, peach and pine. Flavor is orange, grapefruit, pine needles, and a prickly hoppy zestiness. It’s a bright hop profile from the four-hop cocktail. Body is moderate to full; a creamy, slick mouthfeel. Exceptionally drinkable DIPA, especially for the ABV.
